The game is availiable for pre-ordering at GAME's website and the store itself (Link in the "MORE INFORMATION" box at the bottom of this page) and is priced at £39.99. The game is due out in europe on the 17th of november 2006.
Isn't that like, $10-$20 cheaper than most Xbox 360 games?

Ominous.

Its £10 cheaper than most Xbox 360 games.
Mind you just nosed around on Game's website and it seems like most upcoming Xbox 360 games seem have had £5-£10 ripped off them.

I just found this video and thought it was cool.

Check out the environment trailer. It shows every level in the game.

It doesn't show Tropical Jungle, Aquatic Base and End of the World.

Radical Train looks thoroughly awesome. This annoys me- every time I manage to convince myself that this game is going to be an utter flop, it slaps me round the tits with something new and instantly rekindles my interest; it's a constant tug-of-war with my psyche. I just don't know what to believe anymore.

Or <strike>White Acropolis</strike> and Molten Core (In Action Stage form), for that matter.

This was posted in the other thread, and there's another slightly shorter version here with music http://sonic.sega.jp/sonic/ which has also been updated with rouge and white acropolis (snow stage).

I might. I mean, the initial reviews are <i>surprisingly</i> positive despite the general community's consensus that the game is absolute crap... but I'm still wary.

That said, I had some fun with the demo and would probably have fun with the full game, but that doesn't make it any less glitchy. I still distinctly remember standing still on the sides of rocks, without any influence from gravity - something that just seems utterly inexcusable in the here and now.

reviews for. . sonic? I just watched the trailer on the official japanese website (which is the evironment trailer from IGN but with music). Um I really have to say that I think this is looking kind of great. The music during the speed portions seems dandy and adds to the atmosphere. Im not hoping for the best sonic game ever but do you think maybe we could actually get a decent game here?

This effect's sorta gotten to me too, but I think it's because people have complained so loudly over these months that it's corroded my anticipation for it. I know this game is looking good to me - the problem is that nagging paranoia in the back of my mind that's been amplified by all the shouting about clunky controls and glitches and the camera.

Of course, these are impressions from a demo put on Xbox Live that is likely six months old by now (it's generally assumed the Live demo was just a recycled E3 '06 demo). In the grand scheme of the development cycle this game has been through, six months is a little over half of the game's overall development time. And it's been, what? 2 months since the actual demo went public?

I'd say that's enough time for them to have at least attempted to fix those problems.

I'll be picking up my copy tomorrow, so I'll be sure to let you guys know if they were fixed or not. =P

The hell? I thought I'd put up a post clarifying it in between Locit's and (...)'s... Did I just not post it (this wouldn't be the first time)? Weird. Maybe I posted it in the wrong thread, I dunno.

First forum commandment:
Thou shalt not reference outside material without posting thoughts of thy own.
A firsthand opinion is always better than something that you read somewhere else, and if you're citing an outside article to answer a question, maybe you don't really have the answer and should refrain from posting. If you choose to reference an outside review, it is absolutely forbidden to mention a numeric score. No "Game Informer gave it a 67%" or "IGN gave it an 8.3", or "Famitsu gave it a 7, 7, 7, 9." This is not information. Citing specific comments from the article is fine, but do not cut and paste the entirety, or even direct link to it unless you have an argument or commentary that consists of more than an ambiguous approval or disagreement.

Fair enough. Strongly disagree, but I'll comply.

Alright then: Play Magazine and some TV show called "Game On" reviewed it. Find out the scores yourself. The latter said all the flaws we've come to expect are still in there, but don't really affect enjoyment. I don't have an opinion really since I haven't played the full game yet (and obviously none of us, save maybe OCB, have), but I honestly hope I can enjoy the game flaws or not.

Is that better?

It's actually better not to reference outside reviews at all, especially if you haven't played the game yourself. It comes out tomorrow, though, so hopefully we'll have some first-hand thoughts in here, which are welcome and encouraged.

Well, Dad has a 360, so I might just rent and tell you then (probably around Thanksgiving break - although, I'm planning on camping out for a Wii on launch day, so I might be too interested in <i>Zelda</i> at that point).

That said, it's kinda odd to have people ask you to tell you what review you're talking about but not be able to.

You know, it's funny. I know we always joke about how SEGA can slap Sonic into any shitty game and sell a million copies. But this might be the first "big" Sonic title to really tank, and that has nothing to do with the quality of the game.

Sonic always sold worse on the XBOX than he did on the PS2 or Cube. And now his latest title is, for the moment at least, an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Plus, the 360 has an even lower install base than the original XBOX did one year into its lifecycle, let alone the install base it had by the time Heroes rolled around. And considering the price a 360 goes for, and considering the kind of games that have been released on it so far, one would assume that the vast majority of 360 owners are over the age of 18.

I guess what I'm saying is... who the hell is going to buy this game? It seems to me like the people most likely to want it are the people least like to be able to play it.

er maybe between all the first person shooters and sports games they're platform gamed starved? The xbox 360 players I mean.

Oh yeah though about the user base being mostly over 18 I mean how old are the members of this forum? Maybe there are old school fans who might pick. . .it up? It's a good point. It could be that sega cares very little about who buys the 360 version. However it may finally give japanese 360 owners something to buy.

As I said in another post, you forgot to factor in that it is releases during the busiest shopping months in the world and kids could ask for a 360 for this game and maybe Viva Pinata. So it has a chance to sell decently.

However, it also has a chance to flop for a few reasons. One of them is the Wii, which is coming out this year, and you know it will be the hottest thing for kids and families due to the control scheme and relatively low price. Not to mention, this system is getting a surprising a lot of good buzz from the mainstram media. Nintendo home consoles always sell huuuuuge numbers during their launch period.

Next, there are the DSLite and the PS2 to consider also. The DSLite has been outselling everything in the U.S. since it's debut in June. So it will also be one of the best-selling gaming devices this Chrismas. Same with PS2 as it still sells--infact, more than Xbox360 and it seems like a cheap alternative for kids at this point like the PSOne during the end of it's life cycle.

Then we have the PS3 and it will also sell well. However, the people who are buying it aren't going go for Sonic. They are most likely going to purchase Resistance.

Which reminds me, it's competing against 4 other big games. Older kids and adults will probably be attracted to Gears of War, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Resistance, and Final Fantasy XII. Though, I could see some 8 year olds being attracted to those titles also, seeing that they have this "cool" factor in the media--even moreso than Sonic which compared to those titles would be looked as "kiddie".

Considering the current popularity or lack there of Sonic in Japan, most Japanese 360 owners will mainly be buying Blue Dragon.

If anything, old school fans would be turned off from picking this up.

As far as I know, Final Fantasy XII ain't doing too well. My Wal-Mart has a huge stack of them, untouched . . . the next FF I'm going to be playing is III DS, if anything. Nobody is ridiculously effeminate, the Job System is there, and you don't have to play minigames to level up to wear a hat on your head.
