Not as Dack described but I don't think it hits you over the head with the joke(?). Haven't really worked out a lot of the background/details yet though I have a good idea of what to add. I wanted to enter the contest so this might be a fun one to do if no one else is calling dibs.

Glad to hear you're entering the contest G.Silver! One of your pictures really deserves to win.
Thanks for the nostalgia pic, made me realize how cool Sonic was.

But if bazillions of people send in pictures of Sonic jumping the shark, then surely even Sega cant be dumb enough not to get the implications. And if they get it, then there is probably no chance that they will let one into the game...

But then again, considering that thousands of bazillions of Sonic fans are gonna to enter the contest and draw stupid non-shark-jumping pictures, i guess the chance of a single shark picture actually getting into the game was about zero anyway, if one is to be realistic.

Heh, its funny. When people at YTMND tried to get Optimus Prime to say "these pretsels are making me thirsty" in the Transformers movie by entering and voting for the phrase in that contest thingy, the Transformers fanbase swiftly responded with condemnation and anger. The Sonic "fanbase" on the other hand actually attempts similar coups against Sonic games themselves. That probably says more about the quality of the Sonic franchise in its current state than any game review ever could...

That's actually pretty much what I had in mind, only more badass.

That looks AWESOME.
By the way, does anyone have some tips for me to get better at drawing? I often find myself not able to physically realise the ideas I have in my mind, or if so they're not the quality I aimed for. I assumed you guys took courses or something to get that great?

Ha thanks for the praise guys=) I've actually finished the rest of the background, the (non-digital)inks, and am now trying to give it the Photoshop treatment. Unfortunately, my Photoshop skills are weak, so here's hoping I can do Hydrocity's great colors some justice. Good practice anyway.

Who'd have thought that a contest entry joke would spur a contest of it's own?=P Awesome.

P.P.A.: The best advice I can give is to drawdrawdraw and draw some more. Really, it works. I've taken classes but I'm mostly self-taught by drawing my favorite characters. You can learn a lot by copying the work of masters first. If you're talking cartooning, the Preston Blair lessons are a great place to start. Lot of good stuff about form and structure. On the traditional drawing side(Do it. It's really helpful.), try life drawing(models etc) or making sets of inanimate objects and sketching them. Classes are generally the best thing for that but there are also groups and clubs if you look for them.

ANYWHO this isn't the topic for this stuff, so I'll cut it off here.

Thanks Dash and Ritz, I'll be sure to read these. And practise a lot, heh.
Also I need a decent table. Drawing stuff while lying in bed isn't that comfortable.

Here are some new scans of the game. Anybody care to translate?

As to my general opinion of the game? I'm gonna wait until I see a trailer before I judge.

So it wasn't a trailer, but there was footage of the game at Nintendo's event thing last night.

All the footage shown has Sonic running AWAY from the camera, which makes me wonder if this is going to control very similarly to SatSR instead of being more free-roaming. But, I'm going off of, what, three seconds of footage? Hope they release more soon.

That clip was waaaaaay too short to try to make any real judgement.

But knowing the Sonic community, they'll try anyway.

The video for the game (S&P2) looks like a great deal of fun, which is more than I can say for any game released like in the past 4 years.

Do you think that cord running between the character's hands (Saki?) is a tethered Wiimote and Numchuck?

It doesn't look as good as the first Sin & Punishment. It's too realistic looking, which means it's too plain looking. I'm sure it will be a ton of fun to play though.

And I assume Nintendo will wise up and bring this to the states in a timely fashion this time. ...or else!

...or else I might import it.

Um, they already said yesterday that it was confirmed for the US (due to good sales of the VC game).

It's amazing, but short. Totally worth it though.

Went nuts when I saw the 3 seconds in the 09 trailer. So awesome that it's happening even though that character's design seems a bit less striking than Saki. With the possible Wiimote/Nunchuck combo backpack thing... do you think the white/blue color scheme on him is meant to follow that frame of mind? Anywho, everything else seems top notch!

I guess there's really no place to put this now that there's no SatBK thread, but since this one used to be about putting Japanese characters in European folktales...

Trailer from TGS. Get used to that music; if history is anything to go by, it'll play everytime you go to the level select screen.

I think it looks okay so far, promising in that nothing seems overly horrible (always an instant plus) and that the visuals are looking fairly decent. Still not sure if the gameplay will really "work" though and the amount of grey castles in the trailer is a bit offputting.

Still, can't say no to a video with such a boundary-breakingly-cheesy Crush 40 song!

This video further drives home how stupid the whole sword-carrying concept is. It pretty much just increases Sonic's attack field. "What? He can go down walls without getting hurt!? He can attack while jumping!? I've never seen Sonic pull such feats!"

It doesn't look nearly as good as Secret Rings. The artwork is noticeably dull compared to just about every other recent Sonic game.

At least us Wii owner will get to pick between this and Unleashed within a relatively short time.
