That's what I meant. Maybe I should've said "inaccurate".DackAttac wrote:Accurate? Fuck that. I wanna see how they've warped it into a Sonic level.

Goddamit Sega. Why'd you have to go and do something completely awesome for a game no body wants to actually care about?
http://www.sega.com/sonicblackknight/contest/us/
The artwork will even be featured in the game. I'd be lying If I said I wasn't excited about this.
It says you get to pick any of your favorite scenes from an actual game. How fucking cool is that. At least it eliminates fan bullshit.
Edit: Oh, I guess it's just going to show up as a fanart gallery in the game. That's a lot less cool than what I had in mind. Something like, a hall of history for sonic in the game or something. Paintings on the wall or something. oh well.

I find it funny that Sonic's largest audience, six to twelve-year olds aren't even eligible to enter this contest.contest rules wrote:# YOU, THE ARTIST: You must be over 13 years old to enter and live in either the United States or Canada.

I wonder if Japan will get a different gallery of fan art or if they're going to be left out of this completely. I think I'm really going to be looking forward to seeing what the best of the best fan art will be.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Turns out the contest is worldwide, which I suppose severely diminishes my chances of winning.
Well, I haven't 100% decided to enter yet, but I can't pinpoint a Sonic moment I want to capture.

How about the moment where Sonic jumped the shark!

Hydrocity? I guess Jeremy Parrish was right about Sonic 3 then.
G.Silver, Why don't you draw that for the contest?

I mean he'd have to literally be jumping a shark, and even then it'd never get in, but still.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
I don't know, if it were subtle, if it were Sonic hitting a spring in Hydrocity and going over three of those flying sharks (which I assume Mirai was getting at), they'd probably think, "Wow, that's pretty cool" without considering the implications. You'd have to sell it as a badass action scene, though I'm sure you're capable.

Um. Fellas. We are having a joke on each other right?
Right?
Cause we would be the only ones laughing, all the casual don't-want-to-get-its will interpret is "wow, Sonic 3 MUST have sucked".

You lost me on how the people who don't get it, get it in a way with the wrong implications.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
The idea of a picture of Sonic jumping the shark appearing in a official Sonic game is way to awsome to just be tossed aside as a joke. For the love of everything good, someone with some articstic skills must give this fantasy a chance to become reality.

Wasn't Chop-Chop the English name for one of the shark-esque baddies?

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
I know it's sorta G.Silver's job to do awesome Sonic level collages but I did make a sketch after reading about the shark jumping idea. Not as Dack described but I don't think it hits you over the head with the joke(?). Haven't really worked out a lot of the background/details yet though I have a good idea of what to add. I wanted to enter the contest so this might be a fun one to do if no one else is calling dibs.
Glad to hear you're entering the contest G.Silver! One of your pictures really deserves to win.

I think we should all enter shark-jumping Sonics.

We're doing a new contest. Sonic shark-jumping art entries, one or two winners get a full copy of this game, I'll post a thread about it this weekend.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Yeah, I've been sort of torn between a "serious" entry (conveniently also finishing off my Sonic 1 series with Scrap Brain/Final Zone) or going for the Shark Jump. Dash's picture hits it pretty well, it's not the one I'd do either, there's a lot of flexibility in depicting the Shark Jump in terms of pose, angle, etc.
People entering the shark jumping contest should be encouraged to enter the Sega one simultaneously. Would that still fall within the rules of the Sega contest? It would be awesome if Sega got bombarded with the exact same scene by so many people.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Actually, the possible problem with that a winner could now have two copies of Sonic and the Black Knight.
Then again, I guess that's not really a problem, as if you won both contests you could just sell your extra copy.
