I like the look of that Werehog movie thing. It seems harmless in a Runaway Brain kind of way.

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
The Wii version is looking way too sparse and samey. I didn't see anything in there that was absent from the Wii version of the first level.
I'm seeing no reason to get psyched about the "movie" thing. The only two characters that seem to actually carry over from the game are Sonic and that pathetic rat thing they keep trying to pass off as a character. And then Sonic goes werehog, which while I've defended the playability of, will probably be nowhere near any fun to watch.

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
If that movie is actually new material and not just a holiday-appropriate cinematic ripped from the game, then that's awesome. Not the movie itself, but the fact that Sega would put together a high-res CG scene, which will probably be the best part of Unleashed, and give it out for free. That's the sort of thing that cool companies do, not soulless money grubbing bureaucrats like Sega's supposed to be. Think they hired an image consultant?

PS3 / XBox360 Mazuri Trailer - It's the stage that was from the first leaked video. First time I've seen the Werehog against enemy mechs, not just Dark Gaia creatures.

Gosh I love that sonic boom effect whenever Sonic does his "boost" Yeah the Africa level looks way more solid than what it used to look in the past videos, and the flute part sounds beautiful for that level.
So yeah the game is looking mighty good, and it was indeed nice to see the Werehog against the robots for a change, just hope Sonic doesn't battle monsters, although it says the monsters are nocturnal I believe.

EDIT: Also, some new Nighttime Mazuri screen shots on the Japanese website! Night Mazuri looks interesting, specially with the Robots there.

Sega really does a good job at making good trailers. I mean every time I see a trailer it looks bad ass and spot on but when we see a crappy normal person play the game it looks like the game is a mess. Hopefully it's just player error.

Well a video showed a Japanese player playing the game at TGS and it is possible to play the game.

I think it's all proving my theory that the game reviewers don't actually know how to play the games they review well.

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
The reviewers CAN be Bias.
Also although this has been said many times, Sonic has never been about all speed to me, but about good gameplay, music and design.
Unfortunatelly most of the rewiers are like "OMG!! Sonic Iz TEH SP33D!!" and thus the N00B's at Sonic Team dont know better, But Unleashed is looking good so far and has a decent balance of platforming aswell as speed.

Well, at their core, they're journalists, so while they may have a fairly good knowledge of videogames, they're not all going to be great at them.Rob-Bert wrote:I think it's all proving my theory that the game reviewers don't actually know how to play the games they review well.
Of course, that's if you even listen to game reviews at this point.

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
The only reviews I usually trust anymore is from users at the forums I frequent, such as this one.
.....So which one of you fuckers is willing to get this game on launch day? Oh, and make sure it's the PS3/360 version, kthnx.

New video of the artic level. I honestly really like the level design here for the most part. What I don't like so much is the look of the level; its too sterile and generic. I love the part where he gets hit and falls to a lower level though. Takes me back to the good old days.

I'm not sure you have any idea what full-time games journalists actually do.Baba O'Riley wrote:Well, at their core, they're journalists, so while they may have a fairly good knowledge of videogames, they're not all going to be great at them.

I'm really loving the look of that level, After SA1 I hoped for a cool snow level and this looks really close the the adventure type snow level I always wanted.Radrappy wrote:http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_9266_en.html

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
Even though they're hired to play games and write about them, it doesn't mean they have time to get good at a game (or even a particular genre). Sometimes I get the picture in my head that they play a marathon gaming session, trying to get through it as fast as possible on their first try. I probably think this because reviews are usually up the day the game comes out and it's often not mentioned how much time the reviewer had to play the game or when they received their press copy.Locit wrote:I'm not sure you have any idea what full-time games journalists actually do.Baba O'Riley wrote:Well, at their core, they're journalists, so while they may have a fairly good knowledge of videogames, they're not all going to be great at them.
On that note, it's rarely ever mentioned under what conditions they played the game under. Was it in easy mode? Did they unlock all the extras? Did they get to the ending credits or get all the stars? Did they have to ask the developers how to get past a part they were stuck on? Were they playing other games at the same time? Did they go to a gaming conference show (E3, etc)? Where were they playing the game? At home? At work? On HD or SD? You're lucky if they say whether or not they reviewed the Xbox 360 version or the PS3 version, let alone anything else that could affect the game's score.

This is no excuse for them to suck ass at games that are not hard to grasp in their oh-so-limited time.gr4yJ4Y wrote:Even though they're hired to play games and write about them, it doesn't mean they have time to get good at a game (or even a particular genre).

Oh hey, here's the opening cutscene--all 6 minutes of it!
And the first look at the hub world and an early level. The level looks...kinda boring really, and Sonic gets experience points to level up so he can go even faster! Doesn't that sounds fun!

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
You linked twice to the same video. Here's the opening cinematic.
I have to say, it's actually pretty good! Very light hearted and very "right". I especially liked seeing Eggman detach the Eggmobile from the exploding boss contraption and escaping!
I still hate the floating hairball, but the way it gets its name is very comical and very "Sonic-y". This is one thing they seem to have gotten right: Sonic's personality.
But then the town stage kicks in and it looks like it plays awfully and is boring as hell. The camera seems to constantly be stuck aiming at Sonic's back, and his speed isn't nerfed, so precise control is inexistant and running into walls will be inevitable.
Other than that, the game lives up to what it's supposed to be, a Secret Rings/Rush hybrid. I don't like details like Sonic's feet awkwardly sliding across the floor, the rings sliding into the ring counter and Sonic exclaiming "go" whenever somebody pushes the X button, but the rest, whatever it is, is there.
This sorta feels like Sonic 360 again. All we're missing is having a GHZ forumer play a demo and report that the controls are awful and the levels take half an hour to load.
I wish to see the Wii version! Though I doubt it's any better. Just a different flavor of suck.
EDIT: NOW I remember what the town stages remind me of: Sonic R. Remember how easy it was to explore what's around you in that game?
