What the shit, Del. Don't respond to complaints. It sets a dangerous precedent.

The Weekly Poll isn’t actually weekly!
The front page hasn’t been updated in years!
GG! touched me inappropriately!
It was better when the mini profiles were on the right side, and the posts on the left!
The edit limit is cumbersome and fairly pointless!

It was not a complaint. Merely a suggestion.

When Passepartout blacked out and set the castle adrift for three days, obviously.

I think this thread looks better in General Discussion.

Just a suggestion.

It might actually suit the Weekly Poll section better.

I was playing the demo of SA2 today (The instrumental of City Escape is much better than the vocal version used in the final game)

Since City Escape is pretty much confirmed to be in the game, (A new version of "Escape from the City" is being recorded for Generations) I think it would be pretty cool if they actually allowed you to control Sonic as he floats down to the city below. Though I don't know how he would attack enemies, being confined to his board. Maybe it could just be a brief segment where you enjoy the scenery and collect some rings.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Truck scene recreated with the Hedgehog Engine. It was one of my favorite moments in any Sonic game. (There was a lot of action going on in that scene, and the music made it feel intense, despite the lack of any real difficulty)

Anyway, looks like we'll be getting Hub-Worlds. (Hope they're not as cramped as the ones in Unleashed. Apotos was terrible.)
The latest issue of Swedish magazine Level, as transcribed by SSMB forumer Carbo, claims a tidbit coming for Sonic Generations that, for most would be insignificant, but for some would signal trouble not just for what it is, but what it means: hub worlds.

That did not come out of Takashi Iizuka’s mouth; he even admitted in the piece that “Sonic is not perfect.” The tidbit comes from a screenshot annotation that accompanies the piece. There is no scan but we assume it to be under the so-called interactive menu for Green Hill Zone, and translated, it says this:

"The Adventure elements that have been around the later Sonic games haven’t disappeared completely. In between levels Sonic goes around in an open world looking for the next challenge."

I think the problem with the stages for this game is that even though Sonic has always had a wide variety of stages, the most iconic ones tend to fall into only 5 categories: Forest/Jungle, Casino, City, Eggman's Factories, and Ruins. Not really sure if they could or should spice that up.

Why not have all those flow seamlessly together and make the whole game out of one gigantic level? That would be cool.

Because Sonic is a game about running, not about falling, however you could have a low gravity level set in space or something where you have about ten or fiveteen seconds to collect rings...

I liked the last level part of Spinball, it was fun, despite the fact it was too easy to die, I wonder how an adaptation of that could work in a "Real Sonic" game.

OR you could have a Super Sonic "chase" level where you cant hit the enemy cause it ducks you all the time and you have to collect rings to not die, then Eggman lands in a space station and as a rerun of a classic, someone knocks you out of the emeralds as you are de-powering!

It's actually mildly amazing that the first ice level didn't happen until the third game.

I like most of Sonic Spinball, actually. However I never play it anymore, and there's a very simple reason for this: The final boss takes far too long. Actually dying in the last level is something I hardly ever do; to actually get a game over would take forever. Even longer than it takes to beat the damn thing, since that eventually happens...

Does Heroes not count as a 'recent' game? :/

It was the most recent 3D Sonic game I've played but I get the impression that's probably a good thing. Tempted to get Generations though.

Hoping for classic Eggman, that would be awesome. As for new levels, here's some ideas:

Former Forrest Zone- watch out for buzz saw badniks chopping trees left right and centre for money.
Sandjihad Zone- erm..
Commercial Con Zone- all the badniks from this zone look like previously seen Sonic sprites
Ice Crisis Zone- global warming melted the Ice Cap Zone
Recession Ruins Zone- once filled with emeralds there aren't even rings in this zone
Deja Vu-msday Zone- Super Sonic fights Eggman... in space.

It IS easy to die in The Showdown. In the center room at the bottom, if you fall into one of the outlanes without hitting the three switches above it, it's certain death. And unlike the other stages, it seems to be easier to fall down them than it is to hit the switches. You also get sent to this room a lot, so this setup alone makes the stage dwarf the other three in difficulty. (Ironically, The Machine is the easiest stage in the game because there are only two places to die.)

Funnily enough, I recently played Spinball again. I breezed through the first three stages without losing a life, but then churned through three extra balls as well as the two lives you start with to get a game over in the Showdown. It's not just the number of instant-death pits, but every target you have to hit is either at an awkward angle, a huge distance, or both, so you're going to spend a long time in the stage flying around, which just increases the chances of falling somewhere you don't want to. It's just a hard level.

You know what actually might be the most interesting thing to come out of the Generations-reveal? The fact that a large part of the section of the fanbase that specifically prefer the "Adventure-era" of the series (generally meaning the era from Sonic Adventure up to but not including Sonic Unleashed) have now officially gone into "but what about MY feelings!"-mode. You cant go four topics in just about any other Sonic fansite except this one without stumbling over some guy complaining about how unfair it is that Sega is pandering to the "classic fags" while ignoring the demands of those who first got to know Sonic through Sonic Adventure 2 (Battle) and want to see a return of "dark" storylines, loads of playable characters, and electric guitar riffs.

It's like there is now two distinct fractions of militant "old-school" fans who will never be satisfied until Sega literally turn back time, it's just that one of them wants to go back to twenty years and the other wants to go back ten years.
