In the new season of Sonic X, Sonic somehow gains the ability to "Hulk" out into his true "Shadow" self when he gets pissed off.

I would say: Did you even play Sonic Adventure 2? There were a few hints to that idea.

I'd do something involving this.

Sonic created by GUN? This idea enrages me.

That pic looks like Sonic going SSJ2 with black fur (or through a messed up smoke effect). Sonic Team's demand for it is terrifying.

I always thought it was really intriguing the way that they worked that in to the plot. But I'm not sure how I'd feel about it being outright confirmed. I liked the idea of it being a mystery... kind of like you Is-KPAX-really-an-alien syndrome. But honestly, if they did decide to settle it once and for all I don't think I'd mind. The irony of Eggman's greatest enemy being created by his own Grandad is just too perfect.

But the idea of Sonic actually hulking-out INTO a Shadow form is pretty fucking stupid. I'm really curious to know, though, WHY exactly Frieza2000 knows that this particular element of Sonic X was instigated by Sonic Team.

Sonic = Shadow? How would he fight himself.

Perhaps Sonic and Shadow perform a fusion in a horrible attempt to rip-off DBZ?

Sega are only using it as an excuse to "kill off" Sonic and make Shadow mainstream. Shit, Tails and Amy and Cream could all go "Buzz Bunny" and do the same. Fuck...

Uh that form has nothing to do with Shadow or GUN. In the episode Sonic comes in contact with a bunch of fake emeralds created by the Mettarex which in combination with getting Sonic filled with hate and anger (aka Perfect Chaos) turns him into a sort of anti-Super Sonic.

Perhaps Prof. Gerald was creating the summarized version of the Ultimate Life Form, he created Sonic first, sort of as a second Prototype. From here, two different theories can take place:

1) This was done intentionally so as to make sure the REAL Ultimate Life Form--Shadow the Hedgehog--was kept in line. Not to bring back bad memories, but you know how you couldn't kill Void in Sonic Shuffle? Void was the counterbalance of the peoples' hopes and dreams. So maybe Sonic and Shadow being basically exact opposites was never coincidence story-wise.

2) When Gerald created Sonic, he realized that Sonic actually fed POSITIVELY off people's emotions. Sonic is actually an error. He sent Sonic down to Earth prematurely before he realized this. He abandoned it and started creating the second model--Shadow--without giving it a second thought.

...It's a thought.

I'd go with this explanation for now, as it doesn't involve Sonic X's Gerald in any way, shape or form.

Sonic Team has to approve of every script before they go into production. There's nothing completely blasphemous about this, Naka publicly stated long ago that Sonic X was its own continuity and would potentially stray from the games.

I think that they might get around to it eventually in Sonic X, in their SA2 adaptation Maria launched TWO pods from the ARK, and as far as I know that plot thread hasn't been touched upon since.

J.E, where'd you get this from anyway? Is it idle speculation based on the image or inside info?

Psx and Lizard is right about this. I've seen the whole episode myself also and Solly, explained that Sonic was exposed to the dark Chaos Emeralds that the Metalex created in their ship and as when he saw Cosmos and Chris captured and injured with one of the Metalex heads insulting them he reacted negatively and the dark CE responded to his negative emotions turning him into a dark Super Sonic, not Shadow.

The closest comparison to this would be I guess Fleetway's Super Sonic--except that he probably won't go apeshit at anything that makes him angry unless the dark CE are near. Though I could be wrong though since I only seen up to episode 68.

Sorry, guys, I jumped the gun. The first place I saw the pic was on a forum posted by a guy thought it was Sonic turned into Shadow. I thought it was big news, so I posted it here and on FUS. Good thing you guys here cleared it up for me.

I reckon some dumbass has looked at this forum and done the same.

Well, I asked the guy on the other board who jumped the gun with this news where he got the idea about this:

This is not Sonic turning into Shadow, this is Sonic turning into "his true self", and that Shadow was a copy of him.

Other fun facts:
- Sonic X did not include that white glowy Hedgehog character due to Sonic Team dismissing it.
- Cosmo or whatever, the dream character Sonic is trying to save, was designed by Yuji Naka himself.
- This exact same thing happened with Emerl, who was on Sonic X before Sonic Battle was even in Japan ( Though we got the episode months upon months later ). This is why the episodes of him were pretty much crap all since the game wasn't completed like the others before it.
- Everything that happens in Sonic X is supervised by Sonic Team to ensure Sega's characters are not altered beyond any of their characteristics within the games.

- Cosmo or whatever, the dream character Sonic is trying to save, was designed by Yuji Naka himself.

Eh? Yuji designing a character? Doesn't he mean Uekawa or something?

Either way though, if Cosmo's design come from Sonic Team, could that mean she'll appear in a future game?

I'm still waiting to care about Sonic X. Hrm.

Anyway, to address the "Sonic is Shadow's clone" and "Sonic was made by Gerald" issues, I personally believe that the reason that Shadow looks so much like Sonic is because Sonic is nature's greatest work. He is the all-natural ultimate lifeform. And Shadow is the closest approxiomation that Gerald could create (with obvious defects being his slower speed and need for hover shoes).

The entire Sonic the Hedgehog story has (generally) always been about nature overcoming technology. Ever since Eggman first decided that animals would be good batteries for his wind up toys, Sonic has always proven that nature wins through. It would be fucking stupid to find out that Sonic, nature's greatest champion, was infact a triumph of technology.

Unless it was handled carefully. And Sonic Team have the subtlety of a brick, at the moment.

At least, that's what I believe.
