Hunter S. Thompson commits suicide

One of the many, many articles about it.

I really don't know what to say.

It takes, like, two seconds to sign up for the NY Times and it doesn't cost anything.

You're not that lazy.

We were somewhere around Barstow when the drugs began to take hold.

My boyfriend and his gang are still in mourning, I think. I wouldn't be surprised to see any of them with black armbands.

"We have become a Nazi monster in the eyes of the whole world -- a nation of bullies and bastards who would rather kill than live peacefully. We are not just Whores for power and oil, but killer whores with hate and fear in our hearts. We are human scum, and that is how history will judge us . . . . No redeeming social value. Just whores. Get out of our way, or we'll kill you. "

^ His last greatest quote.

Rest in peace, you old coot. You were 90% drugs, but that last 10% really kicked ass.

It's a bullshit quote that can be applied to any country at any point in history.

The guy had a lot of wisdom for someone who managed to do more drugs than what should be humanly possible.

Thank you, for shitting up the thread with an attempt to be an argumenative asshead.

If this quote is any indication of his so called wisdom, then I think I'm going to have to be "argumentative" and shit on this topic some more.

I think you either love the guy or think he's full of shit, and I consider myself the former. It's all fair and good, but try reading some of his work before you criticise, that's all I'm saying.

Or you could move on. There's always one person in every thread that just has to turn things into some pissing contest around here, and it gets annoying quick.

And thank you for correcting my spelling, I don't know what I'd do without you.

I corrected your spelling? I didn't even notice if you spelled anything wrong, I was just quoting you as a form of mockery.

And I really don't know what you are talking about. A pissing contest? I was just making an observation on the quote. I see no real competition of any sort. Just my thoughts on the quote really. If you don't like them, why don't you just move on, because you aren't convince people with your arguments when you start off calling them "assheads."

If he really wanted mock your spelling, he'd put it as "argumenative" in quotes.

Yes, calling bullshit and following up with a bland generalization wouldn't be considered an argumentative action at all.

I'm done arguing about the argument, if you don't like my comments then that's your issue. I'm not going to just ignore things I don't agree with because you ask me too, and certainly not after you act like an asshole about it.

Second'd. Let's keep this as a memorial thread, okay? The guy was a good writer and we won't see another of his kind again, in my opinion.

Chris, I suggest reading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, it's a good enough place to start and it's the book that got me into Thompson in the first place. If you hate him after that, well, it's all gravy.

From what I hear, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is really good. I'll look into it when I get the chance.
