There needs to be more Franz Ferdinand in the world.

Seriously. Why aren't there more alt-garage-rock-funk-80's-glam-pop bands out there?

Because Freddie Mercury died. That's why.

Because Franz Ferdinand aren't that good, really.

It's true, the whole goddamn album gets stale before it's even over. And there are plenty of bands like Franz Ferdinand, it's this whole garage band revival bullshit or whatever the hell they're calling it.

I don't think Franz Ferdinand sounds particularly like any other band that is popular right now. Show me the error of my ways by naming a few.

I can't tell Franz Ferdinand from Modest Mouse. They sound like the same band.

See, you go around saying you're in a ska band, then you tell me you listen to Franz Ferdinand and then you just tarnish the whole thing. Get the fuck out of my kitchen.

Allow me to stomp your hopes and dreams into little pieces:
-I like Primus.
-I like The Hives.
-I can't stand the Sex Pistols.
-I bought The Zuton's CD.

Uhhh... no they don't.

They're both boring. Boring boring boring. We need more bands that do interesting, original, expirimental shit, not just manage to come up with enough quasi-catchy guitar riffs backed by verse-chorus-verse songwriting and strech it out for a whole album. That was done to death in the 90's.
And speaking of that, I hear The Arcade Fire fits that bill. Does anyone have anything to say about them?

I've only heard a couple of their songs, so I can't say much. I like their use of instruments.

In my opinion, the Arcade Fire sound generic to a fault. They are about as experimental as the average GHZer's sex life, and I do not understand all the praise they are getting. But then, I felt the same way about the Strokes in 2002 and the White Stripes in 2003. Maybe I'm just not "with it." :/
You might enjoy the Fiery Furnaces album, "Blueberry Boat." It's a bit too out there for me, but it's certainly unique sounding, and a lot of folks seem to like it. Maybe it will grow on me. I really enjoyed The Futureheads... there's no shortage of catchy tunes and guitar hooks there, but most of their songs don't follow the usual verse-chorus structure, so you might dig it.
I am a bit puzzled by the Franz Ferdinand / Modest Mouse comparrison, particularly because one is known for tight punchy rock songs while the other is known for lengthy, elaborate jam tracks. Though, I suppose the MM tracks that they use for singles are less like that than the rest of their work...

Float On and Take Me Out sounded a
bit alike in some parts, and the music videos were similar in style. Other than that, I don't hear it either.
I'm listening to Arcade Fire right now, and I would have to agree. I kind of like it them, but that may be because some songs remind me of The Pixies, except sadder. And I don't get The White Stripes and The Strokes either. I didn't bother paying attention to The Strokes, really, but I listened to a good bit of The White Stripes and their blues-inspired stuff was musical plagiarism at it's finest.

Fine, then! The Arcade Fire is about as experimental as my sex life would be if I was Segaholic.
I am capable of enjoying the White Stripes, but I sure don't understand the folks who treat them like the second coming. They're stuff is catchy enough, but it's nothing new. They're easily as derrivative as bands like, say, Jet... just derrivative of a different kind of rock music.
I'll never get the lifeless, monotone buzz of the Strokes, though. They sound like a version of Franz Ferdinand where everyone in the band is dead.

The Strokes could have just hummed all their songs and the end result would have been about the same.

It's something like laaaAAAAAAAAAzzzzzzzniiiiiiiiii--yeeeeesheeeeeeesayyyyyyy--eeeeeeoooohbabydon'tfeeeeesssoooooodowwwwwww--ohhheeeeeyyyyturrrrrmeeeeeeyaaAAAAAAAAAHHH
That's the only Strokes song I've ever been brave enough to listen to. So sue me.
