Okay, there's some pretty outrageous ads out there, but <a href="
http://ghzforum.nathantsui.com/upload/f ... html">this one*</a> is a real gem. It makes you think, "<i>Really,</i> who comes up with this crap?"
Btw, I'm aware this may be pretty old. I have a fixed hosts file so I normally don't see any ads.
And I really don't see the glamour in these iPODs anyway, I mean, a <i>basic</i> Sony Walkman can hold 20gigs of mp3s.
*I put the ad on a remote server so there's no harm in clicking the link.

I'd be more worried about Santa's total lack of dental hygene.

That's really gross.
...So where's my free iPod?
PS: iPods are the sexiest and best harddrive-based MP3 players ever, and that's a scientifically proven fact. Also, the new Walkmans suck dick.

Bleh. iPods are overrated.

The
iRiver and the
Creative Zen seem to disagree with this statement.

I wouldn't exactly totally trust the majority of the marketshare as at times they are attracted to flashy, yet crappy products(e.g. EA games).
I don't know. I just have this feeling that the iPod may be sexy and a decent MP3 player but I know that there could be something better with a higher battery life and a cheaper price. But hardly anyone knows about it because it is not advertised as much as the iPod.

Not advertised as much? If I recall correctly, one of their "competitors" was spending MORE money on advertising than on R&D for their next line of MP3 players. (I think it was Creative, but I can't find the article. It was sometime this fall.) YEAH, that's a great idea! Don't spend more money on improving your crappy products, just do more advertising for the junk you have already!
Sometimes a product sells well because it really is good. Argue with more than 90% of the market if you want, but I can vouch for the fact that the iPod IS the best MP3 player on the market. And I've actually used these products.
I seriously doubt that anything in a while is going to be able to dent the iPod's hold on the market. Face it: The iPod has become this generation's Walkman. I can't walk to any of my classes in downtown Austin without seeing usually six to a dozen iPods on college students. I don't care if they like it just because everyone else has one, I like it because it's an absolutely sexy piece of perfectly designed and fully functional hardware.

And it won't cost you a thing... EXCEPT YOUR SOUL!
Like most Mac hardware, the ipod is rock solid, easy to use, and mind bogglingly overpriced. Maybe I'm in the minority, but a little extra convinience just isn't worth hundreds upon hundreds of dollars to me. I wonder how many of those student's iPods were presents from their rich yuppie parents?

They're not just MP3 players anymore anyways. They're semi-PDAs, portable hard drives, and stuff, too.

Semi-PDAs my ass. They have a few shitty games, from what I understand. The iPod photo thing only lets you display photos, not take them.
They are still just mp3 players with some half-assed addons. Why not buy a PDA?

It just wouldn't be the same.

Because PDAs don't let you do funny dances to relatively unknown artists while your silhouette is placed against a bright neon colored backdrop.
Duh.

IPods look cool, but thats all. You are gonna buy something just because it looks good?

It works good too. And yes, people have been. Why do you think Apple stock has risen so much? Not just that, but 6% of PC users that buy an iPod switch to Apple computers.

I would too, if it didn't cost so damn much.

Because you can't carry around 40 GB of data of whatever you want on a PDA, or most MP3 players.

Apple got it right with the iPod. Killer features, extensibility, brilliantly simple UI, not too expensive, and not too incompatible with applicable standards. If only their computer line could meet the last two. My roommate has an iPod with the FM Tuner, and it just kills my MP3 CD Player in terms of quality and ease-of-use.
The picture and PDA type iPods are a bit of a stretch, I think. Again, the simplicity is what makes it so good.

I plan on buying <
this> (the 40 GB model) within a couple of weeks. I would love an iPod, but comparing the two, I can either buy this or spend almost a hundred dollars more on an iPod with half of the space. Somehow, that doesn't strike me as a very good deal.
Edit: And before you say that no one would need that much space anyway, I have a
lot of music.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Well, if you've been to www.apple.com in the last week or so

God parents in my case. And as near as I can tell it's a 250 dollar pair of earphones.
