You've probably heard of Megaman X: Command Mission. It is the first real rpg in the whole Megaman series (Megaman Legends/ML2/M64 does't count, as they're action rpgs). Before I give any further explanation I must warn: this isn't a game you judge by the beginning. After the introdutory demo, you are trown in the game without any "how to play" sequence, and already in a "random battles" area (you know what I'm talking about). So, unless you are used to play rpg games and/or read the manual, the only thing you'll know is that you have to enter the door.
And for many players, this is frustrating enough to post in forums that the game is pure crap. And the case is that this defenitlly ISN'T a crappy game.
I don't feel like telling the story now, but there's enough to know that this is a Megaman X game: backstabings, heroical sacrificies, philosofical doubts, angst and a big turn of events later. Anything that can't be ruined by reading the plot first. Fortunally, there is a break in one of Capcom's finest traditions (bad voice acting), and only a few script lines are stupid.
One of the cacthes in this game are the "Action Triggers": special attacks that can be done when you have enough WP (call it "magic" if you want), and have extra effects if you put the right commands (just like in Paper Mario). Another feature (possibly derivaded from the dragon transformations in Breath of Fire- yes, both games have a connection) is the "Hyper Mode", where the character "tramsforms" in Super Sentai style and get all boosted up(the topic title wasn't just about the Power Rangers personality stlyle in t he team- there's the pacifist leader, the sexy thief, the suspicious-looking Gambit dude, the sugary girl, the immature brat, the coward big guy, and, of course, the ass-kicking jerk that only joins the team later).
So, to sum up, this is a worthy rpg and a worthy Megaman X game.
(not bad for a first game review, eh?)

So Battle Network doesn't count as a Megaman game?

I would class MBN as a Homoman game. I mean seriously, whats interesting about a program? Unless it gives you porn.

I rented Command Mission, and played it for about a half an hour before I returned it. Nothing about it stood out, and it just seemed like a mediocre dungeon crawl to me. The battle system was pretty decent, but the exploration parts of the game seemed pretty lackluster. Plus, what's with the flames/cape-thingy shooting out of X's bacK?
Meh, I was interested in this game, but after playing it, I think I'll look to Megaman Anniversary Collection for my Mega Man fix. Hell, I even had more fun with Network Transmission on Cube. (STFU, thats a decent game).
By the way, this is off-topic, but has anyone played Blinx 2 yet? It's suprisingly decent and entertaining.

Believe me, the game gets better later.

Hey, a friend of mine told me that on the MM Anniversary Collection, the buttons are reversed. Like, it's now the button on the left that makes Mega Man jump and the button on the right that makes him shoot. And apparently there's no option to change it. Is that right?
What about Metal Gear 3? It never really grabbed my interest, but I've been told by a few people (whose opinions I do not trust) that it's good. Whatever the case, I haven't played a new game since Sly 2, and that was three weeks ago, so I'm in the early phases of withdrawal.

I heard MGS3 is just more of the same. Like it's not much of a step up so much as it is an upgrade. Think Dead or Alive 3 and Soul Calibur 2, I suppose.
I wasn't too excited about it, and I'm still not after reading about it. I might pick it up eventually if it gets cheaper and is ported to Xbox (yes, I have a PlayStation2).

Does the story make any damn sense this time?

I don't see how they could make it anywhere near as confusing or ridiculous as MGS2, but I haven't heard anything about the story. One thing we can all be sure of is the incredible over-the-top cinematics.

Is Sly 2 any good? I'd expect so considering I own the first one and it's wonderful. I just need a second opinion...

The first Sly was amazing, but I was really let down with the sequel. It was just too much extra shit I didn't care about and not enough sneak-platforming goodness.

Call me "Viewtiful Joe!"
Speaking of which, I've been fairly dissapointed with the news about VJ2.
It seems they changed two things - Silvia now has a pair of laser guns, and she has "Replay" instead of "Mach Speed". There are new stages, but those appear to be the only changes made. It doesn't really make any improvements or bring anything new to the table.
Even the plot twist at the end is the EXACT same one as the first one. That pissed me off.
It looks like Capcom's ALREADY fallen into the "Megaman" rut with VJ - games that are only different in that there's new bosses and stages for each game - aside from that - one rehash after another.
At least the stages are more varried than the ones in VJ. VJ had mostly cities, with a spaceshp and an underwater sequence to break things up. VJ2's stages eem to follow the "movie genre" division more.
Heck, there are apparently no secret characters or unlockables in the game.
I haven't played it, but it does seem a lot less polished than the first game . . .

Early days my brother, early days. Remember when we all thought Sonic Heroes would be good?

I was looking forward to VJ2 because of the co-op mode, but I hear they took that out. Is that true?

I was unsure about Joe 2, so I played the demo for encouragement, but didn't attain it. It really is just more of exactly the same, and since I never even finished the original and have very little desire to do so, I guess that was already more than enough.

In the MegaMan collection for the Gamecube, yeah, the controls are reversed and there's no way to change it. Suddenly my GC favoritism ain't serving me so well. The PS2 version isn't changable but it also isn't fundamentally screwed up. It also has an arranged soundtrack that can be turned on if you like, but it really ranges in quality from kinda neat to wildly inappropriate.
I was able to adjust to the backwards controls, but if I'd known beforehand I'd have picked up the PS2 version.

Indeed. It basically is the same game. Here's the ALL the differences:
What was Put in:
* New Stages
* New Bosses
* Sylvia has two new moves
* Joe and Sylvia can now be switched in-game at any time.
* A Minigame called "36 Chambers"
What was taken out:
* Alastor
* Dante
* Captain Blue
It was either rushed, or the first one was a fluke.

Since it reuses so much from the original (SO MUCH) I'm going to assume they just cranked it out to see if they could squeeze a little more profit out of all the stuff they had to develop for the original.

That's kind of what I felt with Jak 3. Varied missions such as riding Dune Buggies, riding on a missiles, zoomers, etc, which was fine and all, but not enough regular, normal platformer goodness that Naughty Dog is usually good at.
I'll take your word for it and consider a rental as soon as I get a membership in my local Blockbuster.

I'm so tempted to give VJ2 the benefit of the doubt considering (even though I'm not finished) I like the first game and more then same can mean a righteous thing for people who loved the first one...maybe I should rent this one, too?

There's your problem. I got bored with the first game after beating it, but playing it with different characters actually gave it some replay value. I daresay the masochist in me enjoyed playing as Alastor.

Do the different characters actually control differently?
