Not two advanced

Post by big_smile »

I finally got around to scanning the Sonic Advance 2 strategy guide. This may be one of the shortest strategy guides ever released (although given its price that is hardly surprising), but it still has a few exciting pieces of information:

Robot Names
The highlight of this assortment of Eggman’s contraptions has to be the Flicky robot, which is the third appearance the Sega grandfather makes in the game. I had a go of translating some of the names, although I did this before posting the Mega Collection scans and so wasn’t able to follow Chriscaffee’s helpful tip about romanisation of the Tsu.

Robot names
-- || Kurakura
Kiki || GejiGeji
Kyura || Kou-ra
Kudonaga || go-ra

Sakasu || Sutoo
Suta- ||Sudona
Suteiga- || Barun
Suteiga- || Runma-hetsudo

Robot names
Dokodoko || mau-su
Furiki (Flicky) || majio
Beru || Mon
Ben || sedo-

Move names
I remember GG! requesting a list of moves when he was writing the Advance 2 museum page. I think he wanted to them for the names of Amy’s attacks, but unfortunately, the guide doesn’t make a single reference to the Rascal.

Character Profiles
The character profiles seem more detailed than the ones in the manual. Hopefully, they might explain why Tails, Knuckles and Vanilla were kidnapped. A gist translation of these would be appreciated.

Sonic guides usually double as portable artwork galleries, but this one is severely lacking high quality line art images. While it does contain art of all the robots, each image is no bigger than web thumbnail image. The scans Psxphile made from the US guide are much better. However, unlike the US guide, the Japanese one does have art work of all the bosses.

I should be receiving the Advance 3 and Battle guides soon, so I’ll be sure to scan and post anything of interest (I’ll also post the missing Lava Reef Boss name).

Kudonaga is Kubinaga
Sutoo is Sutoroo/Sutoro-
Sudona is Supina or "Spina" ala Sonic Adventure
Suteiga- is Sutingaa/Sutinga- or "Stinger"
Runma-hetsudo is Hanmaaheddo/Hanma-heddo or "Hammer Head"

Dokodoko is Pikopiko, like Amy's Hammer
majio is Majiro
Ben is Pen, like Penquin
Sedo- is Yadoo/Yado-, like Yadorin from Spring Yard

As usual awesome stuff. The boss artwork is particularly cool. It's a shame there isn't any of the older bosses from the Genesis games... or is there?

And the moves lists aren't evidently in the directory provided in the link, here are the links to the movelists though.
