Sonic X and 'Segasonic'

Since watching mainly the first few episodes of Sonic X, I thought it was just yet another continuity that wouldn't feel like part of the 'Segasonic' universe.

We've had Sonic's 'siblings', some big 'Owl' guarding Angel Island, present-day echidnas, planets 'Freedom' and 'Mobius' and a cast of Sonic, Tails (if we're lucky) and 'Robotnik', with no other reference to the games whatsoever.

Then came Sonic X with all the right characters, with all the right backgrounds etc...but with these humans. (disappointment).

However, this series allows for the animated 'segasonic' universe to exist at long last, with references to this 'perfect setting' in the first episode. What I wasn't expecting was for there to be more development to this universe. That episode where Tails tries to stop a damn being built and remembers when he met Sonic on Westside Island after being bullied by animals ('segasonic' characters!). And the appearance of the 'original friends' later on.

Without really knowing much of what happens after the worlds begin to merge more and more, do you not think Sonic X is connected with, and makes references to, a 'perfect' Sonic anime? More importantly is it likely the show could turn completely to Sonic's world if future episodes are made?

Could this mirror future Sonic games (2D and 3D) becoming closer and closer to the Genisis games?

What is your idea of the 'perfect' Sonic anime?

I don't care what anyone else says, but I really enjoyed Sonic X. Actually, I'm still watching through it... I'm at around episode 17/52.

Frankly, I like Sonic X. But I would have loved it more if the human characters (ESPECIALLY CHRIS) took a backseat instead of spring up for more then half of the entire epsiodes. I would have also love it to focus more on other characters then just Sonic and Chris. Character development is very important to me.

Westside Island after being bullied by animals
Miles'Tails'Prower was never bullied in the video games. Remember the manual said he was happy until he met Sonic and wanted to improve his skills.

Taken from the Japanese manual.

Miles Prower, the small fox, sported two bushy tails instead of one. For this reason, the animals of Westside Island nicknamed him "Tails". Miles was happy with his life, but after meeting Sonic his view changed. He made a decision to improve his skills, and so he began to hang around Sonic all day long.

Geeze, 'holic, if those are the only episodes you've seen, then no wonder you still like it.

I watched up until about 42 without fansubs. I'm starting over now that I have them all. I still liked it, even without knowing what the crap they were saying.

What is your idea of the 'perfect' Sonic anime?
An adaptation of Sonics 1 to 3, directed by Monkey Punch. W00.

So . . . Sonic would be a lecherous anti-hero who kept on trying to get into Tails's pants?

Just like the hentai doujinshis? Fuck that.

Unless Sonic had kickass sideburns.

Vague attempts at humour aside, my point was that I think Monkey Punch would be the best choice as he could mix together the perfect blend of fast-paced action and slapstick comedy which would make the perfect Sonic anime. Just leave out the pervy stuff. Y'know, for the kiddies.

Or maybe Hideaki Anno? If you've watched Re:Cutie Honey, you'd agree with me.

Although I still think that a movie adapting Sonic CD would be the ultimate Sonic animation.

I liked Sonic X. In Chris's favor, he wasn't as useless as everybody assumes he is. Think about it: you've got a kid who's parents are some of the richest people in the world. The boy's basically swimming in cash: And you have a hedgehog land in your back yard.

Yeah, blah blah blah, Transformers Armada, the kids were useless.

Look at it this way: Chris being rich seperates him from folks like the Armada kids; it affords him the leisure to go chasing around the world after Eggman with Sonic, and gives him the money to fund Tails and Chuck's projects. In Sonic's world, I think Tails mentions it once, they have no such thing as Money (or at least, not as far as the "Earthly Defenition" is concerned). How would he get along in the human world without an unlimited amount of cash? Get Jobs? "Welcome to McDonalds, may I take your Order?"

And in the end, that's part of the moral: Chris isn't a normal kid. He's super rich. And yet, he still manages to have the same problem alot of kids have today: His Parents are never there for him, and it malforms in to some sort of personality disability (In this case, an sort of intense fear of being alone). As sad as it is to think about, a lot of kids can relate to this.

Chris's money makes it so he's not as useless as the Armada Kids. He buys the team Scuba Gear so they can hunt for a Chaos Emerald underwater, for instance. It's Chris's money and Chuck's genius that allows Tails to build the X-Tornado which is used extremely frequently in the show. It's a very useful piece of machinery; it fits four people (five, if you count Sonic, who rides on the outside like usual).

Chris proves to be mostly useful for the situation that presented itself. Sure, he might not be in there, duking it out with a Robot, but he's always on the sidelines right along side Amy, or Cream, or Tails.*

Okay, yeah, great, you're going to say "Well, they didn't HAVE to be transported to earth or what-the-hell-ever." Yeah. And Eggman didn't have to summon Chaos. But he did, because that's what was written in to the storyline.

If it wasn't Chris, it would've been random characters like Sally and the Freedom Fighters. They would've still turned up. Be it in one episode cameos, or permanently, extraneous characters would've still been tacked on. Every TV show based on anything ever always tacks on extra characters. The Super Mario Super Show, SatAM, Megaman, Earthworm Jim.. they're there.

It's a lot easier on yourself and a lot easier on those around you if you relax and let your guard down - stop being so damn cynical to all this shit. Allow yourself to actually LIKE something for once instead of sitting around, poised and ready to point out each and every flaw.

That being said, I just veered way the hell off topic. I'll get off my soap box now.
But I would have loved it more if the human characters (ESPECIALLY CHRIS) took a backseat instead of spring up for more then half of the entire epsiodes. I would have also love it to focus more on other characters then just Sonic and Chris. Character development is very important to me.
Amy, Cream, Rouge, and Knuckles all had their episodes that focused on Character Development. Knuckles went to China, Amy had that thing with the bracelet she made for Sonic, Cream and Emerl got really close (and then... well, I don't want to spoil it for Segaholic)... Rouge and Knuckles were always playing off each other (not in that way, you sicko)... That's all the character development they needed. Sonic isn't focused on emotions or drama.

Again: I enjoyed Sonic X. Was it perfect? Hardly. But I'm from the camp that believes nothing will ever be perfect. But it was certainly good enough for a television show based on Sonic.

Cripes, I really made this a lot longer than it should've been.

* Yes, I shamelessly copied some this from another post I made on a completely different forum, but it mostly applies to the complaints people have for Chris

Frankly, I saw more of Knuckles and Amy being develped while the others were shoved off, even Tails. I still need to watch more, but that's the impression I'm getting. Sonic X is just lucky Knuckles and Amy are my two fave characters.

I'm aware they ain't into emotions and drama, but as long as it isn't all action (which I yawn at), I'm fine with it and I'm glad Sonic X doesn't do that.

You make good points of Chris (or rather the post you got it from, yes, I saw that tiny small sentence in the end  ), but I never said he was useless. He just got in the way too much. If you want to know, I DO enjoy Chris' personality which saids a lot compare to other little kids who has some sort of annoying behavior that I HATE personality wise.

Holy Crap, I love that movie. Am I the only one who likes Knuckles' hat?

In general, I always assume that Sonic and Tails get their cash from Tails' patents (a lot of people would love to have a car that turned into a plane that turned into a robot) and Sonic . . . well, he problably does a lot of endorsement work in commercials.

Or he pimps himself out to women.

On second thought, Sonic might just pimp out Tails to men.

Oh yeah, that was awesome. I saw both Japanese and English versions, though the dubbed voices were weird, especially knuckles'.

Shadow never comes back after he dies in Sonic X, thank god. He was pretty cool in there, though.

Sonic X was a very good cartoon, but it was too short. The Chaos and Shadow 'sagas' were only like, 5 episodes long. Fox Kids is taking their sweet time on showing the episodes, they always start from the beginning after a few episodes.

Does that mean you dislike it? Makes Knuckles look awesome (can't go anywhere in my drawing without adding his hat).

*nods* Yea, never was a fan of cheap deaths. It had to be a SUPER DUPERLY GOOD explanation if some dude comes back to life for me to be convinced.

It's like they were thinking "OMG LOTS OF PEOPLE ARE SAD SHADOW DIED LET'S PUT HIM MAGICALLY BACK TO LIFE!!!1" Unless that Shadow in sonic heroes was a clone, but whatever. Besides, that was a great way for Shadow to die. I'd like to die knowing I saved the world from certain doom.

Maybe the tears of the fangirls/boys brought him back to life? (you won't get it if you didn't see the first Pokemon movie)

Me too. If saving the world from certain doom involved a lot of sex with sexy Japanese men.

But liek, Ash didn't D13!!!1 He like, totally turned to stone. Because American children can't handle death. It doesn't exist for them. People DON'T DIE, kids - remember that! They live forever and ever and ever. Your grandma is just SLEEPING in the ground.

Feh.

If I had it my way, Ash would have died. It's rare for me to utterly hate a character (mostly characters I don't like, I dislike, not hate), but DAMN, that boy needs to die...horribly. Annoying little fart.

None of them do. Sadly, there is no official sub for Sonic X. That's why I just buy the Japanese DVDs.

Yeah, I always used to wonder why ash didn't die, and turned to stone instead. That's right, kids, gunshots make you turn to stone!

I heard they banned an episode of Pokemon 'cause there was a gun in it. Families in america probably have guns since it's legal, which defeats the whole point of that.

I used to think Ash was coo' (don't kill me). Ash is such an idiot, though. "I'M GOING TO RUN LIKE A DUMBASS IN THE MIDDLE OF TWO SUPER STRONG BLASTS BECAUSE THIS WILL OBVIOUSLY STOP MEW AND MEWTWO FROM FIGHTING LOL" Oh well, at least it worked. Ash should "kill" himself more often, it'd stop a lot of conflicts.
