Wow,when the normal PS2 breaks because you looked at it the wrong way, I can't imagine how sturdy that thing is.

Comparison pick from (eww) IGN:

I know it'll probably break if its used during high tide, but I still want one. It's so thin and small, just like a sexy Japanese prostitute.

I could go for one of those, too.

Holy shit, is that a tiny machine. Hell, no, I don't want one, I'm scared I'll break it before I even leave the store.

And ironically, the new MiniXbox will only be a large as a manatee.

And the MiniGameCube will be so small, you'll need the world's most powerful electron microscope to find it.

A lot more pics there.

I don't have a PS2 yet and was ready to get one, but this is coming out in November so I can wait.

And it's a fucking top-loader :D.

TOP LOADS!

Might not be a big deal to anyone but me, but personally I feel that the less moving parts and time I have to wait for the goddamn tray to slide out and back in the better. Plus, I had a game get stuck in my Xbox once and had a shit of a time getting it out.

Holy shit, that's skinny. I'm thinking the same thing when I think of old people. If I even as so much as get close to it, I'm afraid I'll break it or something.

Top loading is a big deal to many more people than you think. Here's hopping someone release a freeloader disc for easier import play.

...You know, I could probably fit that in a briefcase... All they need to do is release a portable screen for it, and I will never pay attention in class ever again.

Actually, the top loading thing should outright end the Disc Read Errorâ„¢ dynasty.

Of course, they wait until the system is about to enter its final years before they introduce the one that fucking works, after everyone in the world has already had to buy 3 dysfunctional ones, giving Sony a supposed userbase of three times the world population. I don't care what anyone accuses me of, this can't all be coincidence. They have got to be doing this shit intentionally.

That's exactly what I'm hoping. I spent the money for a fliptop cover, and it may have been my somewhat shoddy installation (yes, that's possible), but it doesn't work well at all. I was thinking I'd just have to buy a new system. I probably would have bought this anyway, even my first one still worked fine, so I guess I'm happy.

Gibbon, they are definitely doing it intentionally. They certainly follow the same philosophy with all of their other electronics. :P

It's weird, but it seems like most Sony products aside from the PlayStation "family" are actually quite good. I've had CD players, a Mini-Disc player, headphones, and a cell phone from Sony that have all worked great over the years. Of course, just about all Sony products are way overpriced.

Funny. I purchased a used series one PS2 (SCPH-30001) and have never seen the dreaded Disc Read Error.

My XBox, on the other hand...

I always thought the sliding tray for consoles was a bad idea. I've neve rhad any problems with my PS2's, but my Xbox's disc tray is a bitch-- Often, it simply refuses to open unless I tap the eject button like crazy.

Though, theres always one big flaw in Sony machines that makes you realize how lazy Sony has gotten-- With the PS2 it was shoddy construction, the Dual Shock has cheap-ass shoulder buttons and one hell of a mushy D-pad, and their goddamn Mini Disc players with their stupid-ass Atrac files.

Still, I wanna get one of these just because it looks so cool. If there's one thing Sony knows how to do, its that their electronics are aesthetically pleasing. The only way the PStwo could look cooler is if there was a built in screen that constantly displayed porno and it had spinny rims taped to the side.

Yeah, I'll give them that, so far they seem to be the only company to ever figure out what a videogame console is supposed to look like.

Sure! It's a very practical, inoffensive design, which is a refreshing change from the gimicky designs we get from the other companies. But it's the drooling I don't understand. Anyone who jizzes over a console that looks like this is not allowed within twenty feet of my DVD player or VCR.

I've never had disc read errors on any of my systems, until my first Dreamcast died. Rest in peace.

Anything I have ever owned from Sony was a shoddy piece of shit. As a testament to that, I have absolutely nothing from Sony in my possession that works. Good for you, though, that you seem to have luck with them. I get nothing but shit.

The last thing I bought from them was a pair of headphones, but it's my own fault those are broken. They have these weird hinges that are there for no fucking reason, and I tried to bend them too far out of curiosity and the tiny piece of plastic that stopped them from wobbeling all over the place snapped. I say that's 50% stupidity, 50% shoddy design.

Oh yeah, the PSTwo...

149 is the pricetag, the same as the PS2 currently costs, so there will most likely be a drop in price for the PS2. I would guess 120 or 100.

Looks flimsy, but I don't plan on tossing it around or anything. My main concern is the oh-so dreaded "trying to go to fucking far with the controller" scenario where the damn thing tips off the shelf and you shit yourself.

I don't have a single friend who hasn't had a problem with the PS2's disc drive. However there are success stories out there. Everything else I've owned by Sony has been fine, including my dads laptop.

To be fair, the first generation Xbox's used shoddy disc drives, mine broke. Microsoft at least fixed that problem though. The Samsung drives are quality.

Oh and my GameCube was plagued with the dirty disc error message to, it wouldn't load games unless they weren't really hardware intensive. I don't think it was the reader, I think the motor died. I'm the only person on earth who has had this problem though so I think it was probably my fault. The thing did fall off the shelf like 2 years before it broke. That mighta been it. I had bad luck with consoles this generation. That's probably one of the reasons I don't own a PS2.

Surprisingly I've had maybe three DRE on my Xbox (Thompson drive). All cases simply required me to just open and close the drive and it worked fine. Might just be a matter of time before it breaks down, but if it doesn't happen until a couple of years from now I don't see myself being too worried about replacing it.

Yeah, same here. Every once in a while when it doesn't read the disc, I just open and close the tray and it works. I've never had any major problems with my Xbox at all. Granted, it doesn't have a fraction of the play time that my PS2's have had, but it's my primary DVD player, so it gets used long and often.

Never had any trouble with the Cube, either, but it's the loneliest, most neglected console on my shelf right now. Nintendo stuff is usually extremely well-built, though, I'll give them that. Plus their warranty and repair services are top notch.

I hadn't had too many problems with my PS2. It did sometimes have problems reading DVDs, but I've had a standalone DVD player for a long time now, so that didn't matter too much, and I'm sure I could have torn open the thing and followed whatever guide it was to fix the problem. After the fliptop, the thing is so unreliable I haven't even really used it. Weird thing is, it seems to load pretty much all DVD-based games with no problems, but most CD-based games give this weird noise and won't load. Strangely enough, it loads "teh burnz" pretty much just fine. I can't wait to have a working, rather sexy PS2.

As for my Mini-Disc, I actually have had some trouble, but it was mostly with the software and of course the annoying Atrac format. Once I had the music on the discs, I had no problem and the player has incredible battery life.
