Metroid Prime 2 Echoes

Has anyone else acquired the demo yet? I ended up buying the Gamecube bundle (I had a bunch of store credit and I fancied the look of the Platinum GC), and I just finished the demo about a half hour ago. It's about 15 - 20 minutes long (10 maybe if you know what you're doing), but it's pretty sweet.

About three fourths of the way through the demo, you get to go into the "dark dimension." Once there, you have to stand in special safe zones that project light, as the darkness is, for lack of a better word, poisonous. The two new weapons, the light beam and the dark beam, actually have ammo, so they're more akin to the missles than anything else.

Anyway, it's shaping up to be pretty fucking sweet. I can't wait for November.

Fuck the series. It's so dark, I can't see a damn thing in the original Metroid Prime. Brightening up my screen only makes the TV look worse - because all these little crappy lines appear on the screen.

Thus, I was only able to get about 5 minutes into Metroid Prime before I had to stop playing due to graphic issues.

I would go insane if I had to play "Doom 3". Games with dark atmospheres are cool, as long as they're not so dark that you can't actually play the damn game.

I didn't find Metroid Prime to be excessively dark-- I think there's just something wrong with your Cube or your t.v... That's the first time I've ever heard someone complain about the game being too dark.

The first Metroid Prime kicked ass, though that last boss was an ass and I never really beat the game because of it. Thankfully, however, they showed the entire good ending on TechTV (Thank you, Xplay!) so I guess I got the full experience.

I played the demo at EB for a few minutes, it seemed like fun, and I was surprised to see how much the graphics had been smoothed out. It seemed to play like more of the same, but with Metroid, that's always a good thing.

I actually haven't finished the first Metroid Prime yet. I've been stuck on the Omega Pirate boss for a while.

I've made a commitment to beat it, though, before MP2 comes out.

I got like 6 hours in and haven't played since. I think I am gonna start over one of these days. That game scares the hell out of me for some reason though. I think its the music. It makes it seem like something is gonna jump out and rape you even though nothing ever does.

Ironically, the movie it's based on DOES feature aliens that DO leap out and rape you. They cling to your face and force their space wangs down your throat.

If not for the way the young burst through your stomach, they might make cool pets. Perhaps we could get them neutered so that more people could partake of free alien wang without fear of being implanted with alien spawn that eats it's host body from the inside out?

I really loved Metroid Prime until I got to the part where you have to go collect all the artifacts. I guess I just didn't have the patience for a massive, game-spanning collectathon.

Admittedly, I don't have much patience at all to begin with. ;)

Yeah, that artifact hunt at the end did seem like a cheap way to lengthen the game-- Though, I suppose, if you were really good, you could've collected a couple on your first time through the levels... But in reality, no one does that.
Though, finding those artifacts wasn't as boring as finding triforce pieces at the end of Wind Waker.

I know Metroid Prime 2 will probably be a great game, but since it comes out 2 weeks after GTA and a week after Halo, it'll probably be overlooked by all except for the uber-Nintendo fanboys.

Metorid Prime sucked. It tried to hard to be reinvent the series, and to hard to still remain faithful. It was just nothing but boringness. I dunno about you guys, but.. I played that game just to watch it end. It didn't make me feel like Samus, nor a bounty hunter. I felt forced out of my will to stand through such awfulness.

Wow! Are... are you actually being serious? I mean jesus, I don't like the artifact hunt, but I'd never say the game sucked! It's slick!

SK, I actually did have four of the artifacts already by the time I got to the hunt. And I still gave up, because I am THAT LAZY.

I'm actually curious to see how much GTA and Halo can affect Prime 2's sales performance. I guess it at least partially depends on how many cube owners even own a PS2 or an Xbox.

I only played Prime (it came with my GC) long enough to trick my brother into playing it for me, and he only played it long enough until he got fed up with fighting Metroids that scoot around the screen too fast and randomly changed what weapon worked against them on every hit. I was really interested in seeing the game, but I just didn't want to play it.

I really enjoyed Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission though, and to be honest I don't remember Super Metroid with any particular fondness. I'm thinking of going through it again one of these days (since so many people swear by it) but I don't know if it'll ever happen.

Yeah, I never understood the big hoopla about Super Metroid. I always thought it was a fairly interesting 2-D adventure platformer, but nothing outrageously fantastic.

Ditto. Still, Silv, it's a safe bet that if you like Fusion and Zero Mission, you will probably like Super Metroid. It is, after all, basically exactly the same game over and over again.

But I have played Super Metroid. And I didn't like it the way I liked the newer games.

I felt OK about Super Metroid. It was cool, but I wasn't super impressed.

Metroid 2, on the other hand, blew me away when I got it for the original GameBoy. It was one of the two best games for the original GB ever. Link's Awaking being the other one, naturally.

There *are* people out there who dislike Metroid Prime. I'm one of them.

The entire time I spent playing Metroid Prime I felt like I was completely lost. I wandered around aimlessly until the game had pity on me and told me "go this way". Then I'd notice that the model I thought was just for atmosphere (say, a crevice, a pit, etc.) was actually something I was intended to interact with (by jumping in it/on it, shooting it, etc.).

Every so often I'd encounter enemies, but they weren't fun to fight. When fighting with the enemies, I'd lock on and just press the fire button a lot. An enjoyable battle system was never one of Metroid's strong points, but Prime's fighting was particularly bad.

By no means do I consider Metroid Prime a bad game (that's reserved for games that seem like they are trying to piss me off, like Wind Waker); I just don't consider it to be an enjoyable experience. I probably didn't get even past 5% of the game, so if the game could become much more enjoyable later. But then I have to ask the question, if the game is so much more enjoyable later, why not start me out there?

I am going to beat Metroid Fusion For the 900th time later. The best ending I got was the one where whats-her-name takes off her helmet.

Play through the game 900 times without ever learning the main characters name? What are you, an amnesiac or illiterate?

Hahaha! I finally beat the fucking Omega Pirate. It's taken many tries, but it only makes the victory that much sweeter.

That's like... the end of the game...

I like it when I beat things after trying for awhile. Like the last level in Rouge Leader or chapter 3 in F Zero GX.

I didn't think Prime was a bad game, it just scared the hell out of me for some reason. I'll probably finally play through it using a walkthrough because last time I played through it I missed so many missle upgrades that playing through later on was a bitch. I don't think I ever got over 35.
