"I'm not interested in boys..."

Just started playing Shenmue. Picked it up for about 10 bucks after hearing some positive comments here. It's funny, I'd think I would be really bored playing this, but for some reason it's such a thrill to buy a virtual toy capsule. Besides some uppity bitches who won't talk to you(a few of which made some interesting statments), I've enjoyed every minute of walking around and finding information on Ryo's father's murder. But anyway, I just have a couple of questions about it:
Is there any way to make money besides getting your daily allowance? I keep blowing most of it on capsule toys...(I mean, I expected the Sonic and Virtua Fighter toys, but really obscure stuff like Ristar and Rent-a-Hero? Kickass!)
I found a Sega Saturn in Ryo's house. Do you get to play games on it or is it just there for looks?
Uh, that's it for now^^; Any answers would be appriciated. Thanks in advance and such.

Of course it is. It's
Shenmue.
You can get a job at the docks later in the game as a forklift driver. There's always gambling too, of course.
You can win Space Harrier and Hang-On in the Tomato raffle, which can inexplicably be played on Ryo's Sega Saturn.

Gambling? In Shenmue 1? I thought you could only do the forklift job.
As for getting Hang-On and Space Harrier, you can also get them by getting high scores on the actual arcade machines themselves.

Maybe it's a little early for this, and maybe I'm overreacting, but Shut The Fuck Up.

The Sega Saturn is mostly for show, but if you win lucky in the Tomato store with a raffle ticket (just buy Shenmue branded goods or music tapes), and get second prize. You then get to choose a Saturn version of Hang On, or Space Harrier. They are exactly the same as the versions you can play in the You! Arcade.
We don't speak bad of Shenmue. Ever...well maybe but unless it's justfied!

You'd think it'd be easier for a world-class martial artist to find work. Maybe it's not as marketable skill as I had thought? At the very least though, you should be able to beat the crap out of an old lady and steal her purse.

Heh, it's funny how he is the cock of the walk in his little town and can whup everyone's ass, but when he arrives in China, practically every third person can beat the ass of of him if they wanted. YOU ARE THE COCK OF NOTHING.
But it is amazing that he was able to get a Sega Saturn in 1986, I was always impressed with that.

It's common knowledge that crazy-Kung Fu Chinese people can beat the ass out of crazy-Karate Japanese people. It's like Rock-Paper-Scissors.

What if the Karate Japanese person is really a ninja?

On a similar note, I would love it if the last game in the Shenmue series is released, and the game gives you an option to make Ryo say "My name is Hazuki Ryo, you killed my father - prepare to die!" during the last boss fight. Because, really - who hasn't wanted to say that line?

Actually, I imagine the conversation between Ryo and Lan Di would go like this:
Ryo: I'm here to avenge my father!
Lan Di: You're here to avenge your father?
Ryo: Yes, I'm here to avenge my father.
And then Ryo kicks a soccerball at him and asks him the way to Wan Chai.

Do any of y'all think there is even a remote chance of there being a Shenmue 3? I know about Shenmue Online, But I mean a true 'Mue 3.

I actually think there's a better chance that 6 years from now - we'll get the complete Shenmue saga - the first two games plus the conclusion - released as a single game. Shades of Conker on X-Box.

I know I should know this, especially since it is pronounced at the end of Shenmue 2, but I don't. Is it 'Shen-moo' or 'Shen-mew'?

Yeah... I deserved that. And i'm almost fairly certain that it's Shen-moo.

There is a thread here about it. I dunno how far back it is now though.
At the end of Shenmue 2 you find you that Shenmue is a kind of tree or something. I can't remember exactly why the game is called that. How many chapters is this thing supposed to be anyway? Because the end of the 4th chapter ended that poem that the girl would always say. The last line was 'And thus the saga begins' so it can't be anywhere near over if the last two games were just intro.

16 Chapters in Total. Shenmue 1 was obviously Chapter 1, wereas Shenmue 2 covers Chapters 2, 3 and 4.

Did these nuts really expect they'd be able to create an average of 8 Shenmue games in order to fully tell the story? Most popular games don't even have that many sequels. The series seems to be designed specifically to dissapoint it's die-hard fans and leave the conclusion hanging up in the air for all eternity.

It was originally supposed to have been one, big, honking game. In fact, most of Shenmue 2 was complete by the time Shenmue 1 was released.
