Anyone remember Bubsy?
The first was an occasionally funny platformer that was too fucking hard for its own good. It naturally pushed the wacky 'mascot in your FACE' motif that has still not gone away. I actually still own it for the Genesis, and have not even been able to pawn it off for free to any of my friends. It's that badly known.
The second, despite having 'more', was even worse, with simpler, easy as crap levels and a pointless tie-in with Nerf. Rented it and beat it in the same night. No point in buying it back then.
There is no third game.

The versions of Bubsy I know of:
<i>Bubsy: Claws Encountered of the Furred Kind</i> (SNES, Genesis)
This is the original game.
<i>Super Bubsy</i> (PC)
Downloaded this off The-Underdogs (.org) but could not get it to work. Screenshots look as if this is a souped-up version of the SNES game (better graphics, MIDI music, higher quality sound effects)
<i>Bubsy: Fractured Fairy Tales"</i> (Jaguar)
Produced and released around the same time the SNES/Genesis game was. An entirely new game, seperate from Claws Encounter or Bubsy 2. I've heard it uses Super Bubsy sprites for Bubsy and the enemies. I've only heard about this one from a friend.
<i>Bubsy 2</i> (SNES/Genesis)
Not sure of the full name for this. I thought this one sucked, personally. They fucked over gravity and the game feels a lot more poorly made compared to the original Bubsy.
<i>Bubsy 3D</i> (Playstation)
Legendary in how startlingly awful it was. I seem to recall screenshots of it; the game is constructed entirely of colored Polygons: Not a texture to be seen for miles.
Over the years I've been curious as to who owns the Bubsy Liscence. Accolade is long out of business by now, and as someone looking to break in to the Game Industry, picking up an old liscence like Bubsy and making a new game with it (as an "entry level" sort of thing) would be very cost-effective. I still stand by the fact that Bubsy 1 was a worthy game with some funky control issues.

I used to think Bubsy 2 was shit hot when I was a kid. Thank God for my nostalgia-driven emulation, otherwise I might still be that misguided. Dear Lord but I played some right hummers in my time.
Now I can add it to the list of Bubsy games I hate...which, of course, contains all of them. Huzzah! I feel cleansed.

That game was more entertaining if you killed off the bobcat, than if you safely guided him through the stages.
Oooh! You know what else was a fun game in that vein? Pac-Man 2. It was a puzzle/adventure game where you guided Pac-Man through a hilarious cartoon Pac-World. It was GREAT how much you could torture Pacman. He got flatened, attacked by cats, yelled at by his wife, smashed with a shopping cart, in trouble with the law. Beautiful.

"Let's use the Triangle Dive!"I played what I think is Busby 2 on SNES at my friends house once. I kept dying because I would forget to float after falling to far. Sonic never had to float.

As I mentioned, Bubsy (one) is occasionally funny. There's a small comic with very bad puns in the game manual (which is slick and colorful, surprising for the time) and all of the deaths are worth seeing at least once.
And no matter what anyone says, the fact that Bubsy can float/glide is just plain awesome. It makes no sense whatsoever, but it's still pretty damned neat.
There's also some sort of sticker on the box - saying something about a 'Thanksgiving Special'. Anyone know anything about this?
... ah. Pac-Man 2. Now THAT was a good game. Not only could you mess around with Pac-Man and interact in a funked up cartoon universe, you had access to all of the old Pac-Man games. Damned good.

about halfway down <a href="http://homepage.mac.com/chris_johnston/">this blog</a> is an entry about how the author (who worked for EGM at the time) was quoted completely out of context regarding Bubsy 3D and had his "positive statements" printed right on the cover of the game. There's no end to that Bubsy's tricks.
