Help please!

Right, today I just got a MK1 Mega CD in the mail today (supposedly) complete with all leads. However the bastard didn't come with instructions so I'm left rather clueless on what to do, I took off that thingy on the right of my Mega Drive so that they plug in, problem is I'm stuck now. So, I was wondering if you guys could be really nice and help me out here since some of you'ze seem to have some experience here, thanks very much.
BTW please use simple words to describe the parts, okay?

I don't know how it worked in the UK, but over here you just had to remove the cover on the Genesis and plug it in.

Yup, did that, but I don't know what to do now, do I use both power packs? And where does the Mega Drive to Mega CD switch plug into on my Mega Drive?

Thanks.

Make sure you remove the plastic red cover (that is inside the Mega Drive) that says "[Electric Shock Symbol] DO NOT REMOVE".

I didn't know that was supposed to be removed (as it clearly warns against doing so) and so wasted hours trying to figure out what to do.

^_^

Edit: you posted at the same time as me ^_^

Both power packs must be used (one for the MD and the other for the MCD).
And where does the Mega Drive to Mega CD switch plug into on my Mega Drive?

Thanks.
What switch?! Are you connecting to a MK1 MD (as my MK1 MCD/MD has no switch)?

The "switch" that I'm referring to is the link to the MD and CD, I can't figure out where the hell it goes, also, does the MD need an RF cable in, in addition to what the MCD has in?

Thanks for the info Big_Smile.

Yeh, which is strange since it's so over used. Anyway can someone PLEASE help: where the fuck do I put this cable that links the MD to the MCD? It seems to fit nicely into the headphone jack, but that seems pretty stupid...

The Genesis is connected to the Sega CD unit via the interface slot, and
a/v hookups are made through the Sega CD unit instead of the Genesis.
The advantage of this is that games can take advantage of the sound
provided directly by the compact disc in addition to sound effects from
the Genesis unit itself.
See if this helps at all. It's mainly history and technical stuff, but it may help you out a bit.

Thanks Spazz, but I've already checked that out; I've even went as low as to look on the Game FAQs boards. It's funny that everyone says that the 32x is so hard to setup, but is it much harder than this? I mean I've seen numerous setup guides for it, but not this. I swear I'm going to need a degree in IT to set this hunk of junk up. Come on, surely some of you guys owned one.

I did, but it didn't work, and I set it up correctly and all.

Btw, what model of the MegaCD are you trying to set up? The stacked one (model 1) or the flat one (model 2)?

Model no. 1, I'm trying to figure out where the link to the MD goes, and whether or not it needs an RF cable.

It looks like it should be right on the side:

I'm pretty sure the RF cable should plug into the back of the Mega CD and not the Megadrive.

Yeah. There should be two ports on the back of the MCD - an In (from the MD) and an Out (to the TV) if I'm not mistaken.

Right, thanks again Spazz, I've got mine looking like that I just need to insert a cable into the Mega Drive from the MCD, i just don't know where it goes in.

Wait, I don't see a place where it would plug in from the MD:

Maybe all you have to do is plug the RF unit into the MCD, although I think this is from model 2.

If it's different from the pic above, you should have two cables. One short cable and the main RF cable. On the back of the Megadrive, plug the short cable into where the RF cable usually goes. Then, plug the other end of it into the back of the Mega CD so it gets the signal from the MD. After that, all you have to do is plug the RF cable into the MCD, and you should be set. (This is the same way to set up the 32X)

What is this world coming too when people can't setup old VG hardware, eh? >_^

Old, obscure hardware. Don't forget.

Just in case it is still not working:

The only wire an MCD needs is a power adapter. All other wires are surplus. (The MD uses its existing power adapter and AV cable).

Sega Europe re-designed the power adapter when releasing the MD2 and this new adapter will not work with MCD1. The MCD1 adapter should look identical to the MD1 adapter (you can even test it on your MD1 to see if it works). The newer adapter has pieces of yellow plastic on it.

If you have the newer MCD2, MD2 or 32X style adapter, the MCD will not work.

Finally! It was hidden within the bowels of the internet, but I found it.
This should tell you everything. It's for the US version, but it shouldn't be that much different aside from what big_smile said. Just skip the 32X parts.

You guys are da best! I now have my Mega CD working! I just played Streets of Rage on my Sega Arcade disc. I now hope to go out and buy Sonic CD. Thanks very much Spazz and Big_Smile.

BTW expect similar problems when I buy a 32x!
