I miss the bad old times

The Sonic games have always had multiple endings, though usually just two depending on whether or not you bothered to collect those blasted Emeralds or not. Nevertheless you got your happy ending with Eggman thorougly defeated and your not-so-good ending where Eggman was still defeated but much more likely to conquer the world since he somehow found those blasted Emeralds that you were too lazy to collect first.
Not so much anymore. As of Sonic Adventure not meeting the game's requirements (in that case being finishing all characters) won't get you a bad ending, but just an unfinished story. Even in Heroes and the Gameboy titles where the Chaos Emeralds are once again the necessary trinkets to collect, not gathering all 7 never gives you have an ending where the true villain succeeds. Instead you either get a happy ending where the villain never pulls its final trick, or the story ends short of telling the final chapter.
You don't see Eggman getting away with the Master Emerald and leaving Angel Island stuck in the ocean anymore. Or a giant red Metal Sonic spreading nasty fiery destruction while the credits roll.
And with today's engines, wouldn't it be nice to see rather than a grinning Eggman juggling Chaos Emeralds, a sweet little FMV of the entire world or at least some large significant part of it completely destroyed? Now THAT's an incentive to replay and get those blasted Emeralds, boy howdy.
But to put it briefly, this thing with either a happy ending or an unfinished story is getting tiresome. Bring back the bad endings, dagnabbit!

Yeh, I remember when you completed the original, watching either Dr Eggman juggle the chaos emeralds with glea and the "Try Again" message below him; or Dr Eggman jumping up and down enraged at the fact that you collected all the chaos emeralds with the "End" sign below him. What made it more funny was that the sign got squashed and then retracted each time he jumped on it.
Good times.

So why don't you play the old games and stop with the crazy rants about how you'd rather have 16-bit play on a 132+ bit system that can pour out more polygons than your mom.
But yea...you sort of do have a point...

I just did! Got both endings and enjoyed the nostaliga. I personally don''t play much next-gen consoles these days cause they continously disappoint me, although I still have to test playing online. I mean out of the 10 or so Game Cube games that I have bought only a few have impressed me, and I've completed them inside-out (Smash Bros, Sonic DX and Mario Kart). The PS2 is grossly over rated. Maybe I should try the X-box...

Thing is, Eggman's gotten soft since Sonic Adventure. He constantly gets in over his head and ends up getting whipped by the very creation he was going to use for World Domination.
Eggman isn't threatening anymore. He's comic relief. Sonic Heroes being the worst offender: You never even see the real Eggman until the last 5 minutes of the game wind down.
It was cool in Sonic Adventure, you know, because you think of Eggman and you think "this bastard nearly obliterated the planet last time with his Death Egg". Eggman was still badass back then. So, when Chaos kicks Eggman's ass, you're like "Whoa."
And then Sonic Adventure 2 did it. Heroes. Sonic Battle. Sonic Advance 3.
And you go "What a fucking moron. He really needs to stop getting involved with shit that can think for itself and has the ability to kick his ass."

Rant plural? I don't remember doing any other rants on the subject.
And, yeah, Eggman is pretty soft these days. He just doesn't seem to be trying anymore.

Well, he is getting old. It might be time to retire the old boy.

Eggman's slowly turning into the fat old version of Team Rocket from Pokemon. He prances around, gets a giant robot blown up, runs away, and is shoved to the side when a "real" villain shows up. I'm beginning to get sick of it. Either they make Eggman insane enough to actually be intimidating again, or they give Sonic a *gasp* second villain.
I mean cripes, even Mario doesn't fight against Bowser all the time. He's built himself quite a rogue's gallery over the years - Cackletta, Smithy, Wario, Donkey Kong, Wart, Tatanga.
It's time Sonic runs into a second evil-dooer that isn't killed, reformed, or totally defeated within 15 minutes. I'm thinking an evil little girl with magical powers - a Sailor Moon-type parody thing.
If only because the polar opposite of anging, male scientist is a little witchy girl.

No kidding. I noticed in Sonic X that once or twice he got "blasted off" just like Team Rocket. Is that just an anime thing or was it really a Pokèmon rip-off?

I don't trust Sonic Team making new villians. They'll probably take Robotnik, invert his colors, and switch his name around and call him "klintobor".

...klintobor?

You gotta give Sonic Team some credit. They'll add an L so we can't say they just reversed his name. Besides Klintobor sounds cooler.

Besides, Archie already pulled the reversed Robotnik trick; we don't need Sonic Team to make that canon now, do we?

One origin of Robotnik has a friendly scientist named Kintobor get fried by a blast of energy from the Chaos Emeralds while eating a boiled egg - he combined with the egg and turned into Robotnik.
I wish I was joking.

Yeah, forgot about that - Fleetway used that reversed Robotnik schtick too.

Hey you jerks, if I didn't make a big deal about Darth Vader pulling off his helmet to reveal some feeble old white guy, you can't bitch about Eggman's American name.

But Darth Vader only looked feeble and old because he hadn't exposed himself to sunlight in 20-odd years. Not to mention the whole falling into a pit of molten lava thing.
Eggman doesn't really have any excuses like that.

If a bunch of furries managed to wreck your plans using the power of love and the forest while you're armed to the teeth with robots, grenades, guns, and robot grenade-guns, I could sorta see you developing some sort of complex about that.
But Darth Vader wielded the dark side man. The dark-SIDE! I mean, if he wanted to, he could make people act like chickens and shit. What they did to him was inexcusable...not that I'm bitching or anything.

That "origin" of Eggman was used in a british Sonic comic. Or at least, I think so.
About Team Rocket, everything I can say is that all anime villains after them were influenced by them (Medabots, Mon Colle Knights, that time-travelling caveboy, and others). In fact, they created the term "Stupid bad guys that persues the heroes, work for the real bad guy and stop being criminals in the end". But personally, I think it is good that Eggman isn't being the final villain anymore. C'mon, Chaos is a enraged divinity, Biolizard is the fruit of Gerald's HUGE grudge and Metal Sonic is "the" rival. But Eggman is a fat, pretencious scientist.

Indeed it was, Sonic the Comic, but Kintobor didn't eat the egg, he was testing Sonic in his speed machine, powered by six of the emeralds, and got a little hungry, but all he had in the fridge was a rotten egg - Robotnik's a bad egg, geddit - and Sonic busted the machine an' turned blue, but not evil, an' Kintobor turned into Robotnik, but not blue, an', an'... and that's basically that.
Robotnik needs to start doing his own work again. Finding Chaos, and discovering Biolizard is all well and good, but when he was flying around in the Death Egg he was HIS OWN MAN and the universe PH33Red him. Bring back those days, I say.
And make him spherical too. Spherical is better.

Yeah, Eggman is kind of square now. In more ways than one.
Eggman was still a badass in Sonic Adventure. I wish they kept it so that he would just sit down and watch what was happening, then when he fails he'll just go and plot some other scheme that would endanger the world.
In the direction he's going, next time you see him he'll be saying "Looks like Dr. Eggman's blasting off again!"

Eggman now is skinny, but with an huge belly. Like an pregnant woman.
