There appears to be a new Mega Drive-like platformer being developed, complete with authentic Mega Drive sound, and it stars a penguin. It actually looks quite good for a 'fan game', So Check it Out! (tm)

That music is orders of magnitude better than the music in Sonic 4.

In a recent interview with the American brand director for Sonic 4, the man tried to say that Sonic 4 sounds exactly like what a Genesis game sounds like.

They are really full of shite if they think it is even close. All they did was add some boring, dull techno and slap some drums onto it. This game's music has that scratchy, fake guitar noise and bass down well. It sounds a bit noisier than Sonic music did, but it seems good to me, especially that part where they are in the tubes with sand.

It does sound like a Genesis game. Just not a good one.

You mean "a drum".
The most obvious thing wrong with Sonic 4's music that I've heard so far (apart from the aforementioned drum and the overall bland melodies) is that they seem to use a single overpowering synth for everything. (going off memory here, I'd got and listen but I'm adding this as an edit so I'm on a time limit here!)

In order not to derail this thread entirely, I do actually like the look of the level design in that game. It seems very exploration-based.

I was hopping Sonic 4 was done more in this spirit.

I don't like the way it controls at all. There's no sense of weight or traction, and the jump is very floaty. It's difficult to put into words, but it just feels off.

Basically, it's High Seas Havoc.
