So I recently acquired a Playstation Portable for free and I'm torn as to use it or sell it. I know next to nothing about the console or what it's capable of. What is there on it that's worth renting or owning? Should I also be interested in it as a "multimedia experience" or something?
(Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere)

Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone
Riviera: The Promised Land (if you can play it off a Memory Stick without the load times)
Sonic Rivals (really.)
LocoRoco
Crush
Did I mention Yggdra Union yet?

I only use mine for games and music, and if you already have an mp3 player you're set. There ARE some excellent games that you probably ought to give a shot before abandoning it: Loco Roco 2 is one of my favorite platformers and Patapon is really fun once you get into it. There are some unique games on the PSN like fl0w and echochrome that are a more relaxing than fun experience and totally worth checking out. Not to mention the novelty of playing PS1 games on a handheld -- the PSN actually has some good selections now including MGS1, FFVII, Silent Hill, Rayman, Jumping Flash...
Another option is installing custom firmware, which takes a little doing, but can be fun. There's info for it online, but I don't honestly know much about it -- my friend installed M33 firmware on my PSP a while back, which was great for Genesis, SNES, emulation etc. and meant I could install homebrew programs and add-ons for various uses. The only problem is that Sony keeps updating the official firmware so that custom firmware can't play newer games.

Among the Loco Rocos and Patapons, I've always wanted to play the Lumineses (by the Rez guy). And I've heard good things about Daxter (yes, that Daxter; it's a sidestory) and Mega Man: Powered Up.

Unless you're panic broke, i'd just hang onto the thing until I found something interesting for it, because dude, free hardware. I don't know much about its' library either, but if you like Mega Man at all, either of the two remakes are waiting for you (Powered Up takes priority).
How accurate are the homebrew emulators BTW?

Very. You know how much of a Sonic CD nut and hardware purist I am, yet even I can assure you that playing the game on PicoDrive is just like the real thing.FlashTHD wrote:Unless you're panic broke, i'd just hang onto the thing until I found something interesting for it, because dude, free hardware. Dracula X Chronicles is sex.
Also still waiting for somebody to crack 5.51 or above. I'm gonna be waiting a while, regrettably, but at least any game released PRIOR to 5.51 (and the six PS1 games I DL'd) are fair game!

Lumines, which I think was a launch game, is still the best thing on the system, but it's now also out on everything else.
Loco Roco is cool and I dug Jeanne D'Arc and Goku Makaimura.
