They couldn't have made it any uglier, could they?

Having never played the original, I'm intrigued by this.
Why can't WiiWare system ever get neat stuff like this? I mean, besides World of Goo?

You're fucking kidding me right? This is awesome!
But... looks ugly.

It's about time. I hope this plays more like Sparkster for the Mega Drive than the original Rocket Knight Adventures and Sparkster for the SNES. There's nothing wrong with the latter two, but I've always preferred not having to hold a button to charge up your rocket, plus being able to control yourself in mid-air after using it.

Sparkster's redesign looks great in the illustrations:

But in the actual game his face looks rather unfortunate.

1UP wrote:One of the hallmarks of the original Sparkster trilogy is that the play mechanics were different in each game. In Rocket Knight Adventures and the Super NES Sparkster, players fired the jetpack by holding down the jump button to charge the rocket, and Sparkster's sword fired energy beams. In the Genesis version of Sparkster (a completely different game from the Super NES title), the rocket pack meter constantly filled on its own and could be fired consecutively, but Sparkster's sword was downgraded to a mere melee weapon.
Rocket Knight offers a mix of both styles. Now, the auto-filling meter powers both the jetpack and the sword. Sparkster uses short-range attacks by default, but he can fire energy balls and extended beams of energy at the cost of some of his rocket power. His rocket is operated by a separate button from jumping and can be activated at any time, although it no longer fires consecutively; instead, Sparkster can fire a quick second rocket burst while in mid-air as a sort of Klonoa-style double jump to give him added distance on a jump, though not extra height.
Hell yeah, now that's what I wanted to hear!

I will buy almost anything on Steam.

I don't quite know how I feel about this yet, but I'm relieved he doesn't look anything like his super-tanned reappearance in that Konami sports game.

Yeah. I guess I need to see it working.

Although seeing it in motion would be preferable, I think just knowing who is the precise developer would more or less suffice.
Also it's unbearably ugly and garish.
I mean, look at these:
And then this:
Any sense of aesthetical cohesion is lost.
EDIT: Oh, yeah.
Westerners. Of course.

It wouldn't fix Sparkster's off-kilter model, but I think this new game would look better with handrawn 2D graphics. 3D graphics can be overated, especially if applied to surreal game franchises.

It looks more like a Crash Bandicoot game than anything.

I hate to pick such a small detail but in the 16-bit games you can see clearly how close Sparkster holds the sword to his body, realistically that would give him a lot more power in a charge. In this new one he's just holding it out there, it looks weak! (It almost looks to me like the sword is the thing that's flying and he's just hanging on!) Some attention to detail, please!

An ugly resurrection of a game made by
shovelware developers is exactly something to celebrate! Boy oh boy, I can't wait!
The only good thing I'm hopping for is that they will bring the original RKA and both versions of Sparkster to XBLA/PSN/VC.

It does have
neat stuff like
this, only they are made by a good development team and they don't look like ass.

Climax? More like an empty ejaculation.
You expect it to be amazing, then nothing.
As for 2.5, it almost always looks worse for characters models. I recently got a few games like Shadow Complex and Lode Runner on XBLA and the characters look generic. Here Sparkster, who was once a cute looking rat thing, now looks like a dull shovelware rat thing. 2D art is just so much better on a 2D playing field.

On a side note, after playing through No More Heroes and Jet Set Radio 2 at the same time, I am now convinced that the most awesome game in the world would be one in which the protagonist was on rocket rollerblades and wielding a lightsaber at the same time.

Don't forget da cool shades. Also, he should pop a mohawk out of thin air when he gets, like, reeeaaaally pumped up.
... And of course he should be a certain sarcosuchus.

Don't forget the permanent smirk on his face, so the audience can tell he is "the REAL dude with a 'tude".

I rather take his tanned redesign from Track&Field, than ClimaxUK's abomination which look like a cross between a Dreamworks and Klasky-Csupó design. What is with Konami and its subsidary Hudson reviving their old properties by out sourcing them to C-tier companies who's lousy sense art design is far away from the original product? First it's with the new Vandal Hearts for XBLA, then the new Bonk for WW, and now this Rocket Knight. Why couldn't we get a Rocket Knight Rebirth like Contra, Gradius, and now Castlevania did?

I would think he'd just flail around at high speeds while screaming and waving the lightsaber around randomly.

Christ alive, could they have made it any more cluttered and difficult to read?
Also, Ngangbius, looks like you got your wish.

Wow, that looks very Dreamworkish. All we need now is something like Neil Patrick Harris or Matthew Perry doing his voice.
