Halo's fanbase is quite possibly the most infertile grounds possible for this medium. This was a great idea.

But it really is annoying how all "serious" animated products based on American franchises these days either are or try to be anime (i think the agreed upon difference between real anime and fake anime is that real anime is at least partially produced in Japan, but im not really sure). Animatrix, the animated Dark Knight prequel, the animated Iron Man film, ect ect. I realize that full animation is a lot more expensive and time consuming than anime, but i just find it pretty unfitting when such a specifically Japanese artform as anime is used on products that have absolutely nothing to do with Japan whatsoever.

I'm nitpicking but "anime" is not the only form of limited (as opposed to full) animation.
Completely agree otherwise, of course. Though I should point out that this is real anime, as it's being produced by actual anime studioes (4°C, Bones, Production I.G., Toei). This still looks fairly shitty, but it's not like I cared about Halo in the first place.

All cartoons are "anime" in Japan, from Tom & Jerry to Akira. This "distinction" is entirely a Western fabrication, and, honestly, baseless.
It's like calling comic books "graphic novels"; you're just trying to dress up your hobby as something more refined, which just makes it much more immature.

There is a difference between a comic book and a graphic novel. One is a disposable, two-dollar thrill, the other is... well, a novel. But graphic. You're generally looking at a larger, well-defined storyline, thoughtful and mature handling of multiple characters, and layer upon layer of socio-political subtext. They're comic books for big boys. TPBs get mislabled as graphic novels sometimes, which rubs me up the wrong way.
And the Batman anime was really, really good. Also I heard that "anime" was a French term, if you want to be a raging pedantic arsehole. I might be wrong, but I don't give two shits either way, really. That might undermine my whole 'graphic novel/TPB' gripe, but then again, two shits.

Well, I will admit I do miss the Tiny Toons/Animaniacs-style cartoons we used to get in the early '90s (y'know, GOOD cartoons) - but given the concept of a Halo cartoon... well, it's either a more serious anime style (eg: not like, say, Yotsuba&!, but more like Cowboy Bebop or something) or something akin to Batman, really. And, well, I can't say as the "something akin to Batman" field has been delivering lately, given its sudden desire to lean a little more toward the Adam West side of things with Brave and the Bold (although admittedly I've never watched it, and I've heard it's decent enough).
And now I'm curious as to what a Yotsuba&!-styled Halo anime would look like. So wrong.

Or "Yotsubato" if you swing that way.

Quoted for truth.

Whether something's a comic or graphic novel comes down to how it was created and how it gets presented. If the creator intends for it to be digested all in one sitting then it's a graphic novel. If it's intended to be serialized over a long period time with regularly scheduled installments then it's a comic series. But the idea that one form is naturally more mature than the other doesn't make sense and is an invention by the comics industry to legitimize itself amid other forms of art and entertainment.

Also, comics of a limited series (12/13 isssues or less) really screw your point...
If they take comics and put them in compilation books, does that make them a graphic novel?
Because thats what they did with DKR, Kingdom Come and Watchmen...
