A Shenmue MMORPG... how would that work? Seems kinda fishy to me.

Yeah, as i thought about it - the idea does sound kinda odd. I'm not very happy that it's a MMORPG as opposed to a proper 3rd game really 'cos i don't play online.

Many people already didn't like Shenmue because of cultural differences. I don't see how well this will do in the US.

How about a game of Lucky Hit?
Want to play Lucky Hit?

Geez, I can't wait to do that online.

Meh, I liked Shenmue and Shenmue 2, but I have no clue on how they're going to make this work.

I too am perplexed...

Perhaps the entire game will consist of asking sailors questions round the docks.

It sounds interesting, but it could fall apart SO easily. Why not a Shenmue III? It's probably the only game i am looking forward too ever now...well Half-Life 2 but that's different.

One to spot him.
One to hold him down.
One to go through his pockets for loose change.
One to hurl insults about his fat Norwegian mother.
One to give him a Lombardi Slap.
One to...

MMORPG seems like a natural fit with the gameplay, but not so much for the storyline. Still, it's so bizarre... I'm not really sure what to think at all.

I think it's a hoax.

How would that even work? Everyone's running around trying to hunt down the murderer of their father asking each other inane questions. The game would play like this:

Player 1: "Can you tell me how to get to Queens Street?"
Player 2: "I'll answer that if you tell me about the black car on the day the snow turned to rain."
Player 1: "Darn, I don't have that information."
Player 2: "Well, I'll sell the Queens Street info to you for 500 yen and a Bonanza Brothers figure."
Player 1: "How about 500 yen and two Nightopian figures?"
Player 2: "Fair enough. Okay: to get to Queens Street, you go that way." *points to a building*
Player 1: "I see."

Big fun, there. Who the hell are JC Entertainment and T2 Technology, anyway?

I guess it would just be some online life sim/fighter set in the Shenmue "universe"? But what would be the fun in that? So you can run around having idiotic conversations with human-controlled NPCs?

Basically the only info there is right now is this:
Shenmue Online is MMO Action RPG in which tens of thousands of players will participate in the virtual world of Shenmue staged in China including Hong Kong in 1980’s. Players, acting as militants, will use mysterious powers, kung-fu, Chinese weapons and Qigong in real-time fight-action.

Either way, go to http://www.shenmue-online.co.kr and check out screens and a trailer? I think, I haven't looked yet because the site is broken for me.

And actually, some guys at that forum had discovered this a couple days ago. They'd gone to shenmue-online.com, and the site was nothing but "..." then, but it was known to be coming. I didn't post anything here because I... didn't post here at all back then.

Wait, the info is from a Shenmue fan forum, thus obviously proving its authenticity. No hoax here, people. Go back to looking for sailors.

Yes, because it's impossible to get those statistics, and because he'd obviously go through the trouble of making up all those names and numbers.

Oh, and he was one of the veteran admins (with 6000+ posts) of the forum (2000 members, 250000 posts), not some stupid random n00b who came along from nowhere.

So is this just a cash in on the success of FFXI that they attached the Shenmue name to, because the only games that get made these days are sequels?

And there is the fatal flaw is Sega's logic of making Shenmue Online.

Final Fantasy has tons and tons of fanboys that will buy up any FF game.
Shenmue has none.

Maybe Sega should hook up with Treasure and make a "Radiant Silvergun Online" to sell to all the Treasure fanboys?

No Shenmue fanboys? Blimey - there are! Of course, there aren't as many as Final Fantasy fanboys - but they are definitely around.

I just don't get how a Shenmue MMORPG would work. The premise of the game is you are Ryo and you are trying to avenge your fathers death. I don't see how that could possibly invovle more than one player.

Exactly why I think this idea is pretty lame.
