Yuji Naka was interviewed in the latest issue of Nintendo Power. Behold:
Page 1 (Cover)
Page 2
Page 3
Talks mostly about his reasoning for moving to Prope, but there are a handful of Sonic references, particularly to how SoA supported the idea while SoJ was doubtful.
I figured you guys would be more interested than I am...

So who was the guy in SoA that gave Naka an attaboy? I get the strange feeling it's been mentioned elsewhere, like in a SoA developer interview or something.

That was a pretty insightful read. A quick glance at the games listed at the bottom of the page will reveal probably the most treasured games of my childhood.

Either Tom Kalinske or Michael Katz. I'm using IGN as
my source on Sega history, though, so I'm not too sure how accurate it is...

Yeah, I know,
Girl's Garden was such a classic, wasn't it?

Latest issue? You sure? The one I read a couple days ago had Naka alright, but as part of a preview of Let's Tap, and the power profile interview was Jennifer Hale. (also had big thing on the new Silent Hill Wii remake) Never seen this interview before.
But he did admit something pretty noteworthy in the Let's Tap preview: he said if, by some chance, none of the concepts Prope submits to Sega in the future pass publishing muster, only then would he consider going back to one of the old Sonic Team properties. Interesting, but a bit suspect; Sega did give them $10 million to run with right away, and did he not already say they can get their titles published by anyone else willing to?

Yeah, this is the issue after that. Next issue's going to be the DS Kingdom Hearts, by the way, if anyone's curious.

It seems I can never stay angry at Naka. One moment, he seems like an egotistic bigot, and the next, he comes across as being a simple man with a real passion for creating games, struggling to stay afloat in an industry that only seems to stray further and further away from its roots. He's clearly aware of the problems plaguing games today, and that gives me hope for this mascot game he keeps hinting at, since he's just about the only person left in the industry aside from Miyamoto who could manage it. Until Oshima and Yasuhara get their shit straight, anyway.
Here's hoping he'll eventually be able to get involved in the creative process now that he runs his own company. Why would you let such programming talent go to waste like that?

Waaaaaaaaa, I wanna fast car. >.< You sucks, off my team. >_< Dun use my engine! >___<
Naka is a faggot and his new game is a failure. What is the point of his great programming skills if he just ruins everything else by firing others and making childish demands?
And let us not forget he is chronic liar and steals credit for the work of others constantly.

See? Naka's a roller coaster of emotional ups and downs for me. I just don't know what I'm going to do with him.

Naka wrote:Actually, I was the person who asked Sakurai-san to include Sonic [in Super Smash Bros. Brawl]. I wanted to have Sonic in the previous Smash Bros, but there wasn't enough time.
Is this a new revelation? It sounds dubious.

It sounds suspiciously like what Kojima said about Snake, though...

At least they didn't change Harry into a woman because only a woman would care about their children for the remake.
On an unrelated note, Firefox isn't letting me log into this messageboard any longer. When I log in, it just makes me log in again ad infinitum.

Use Firefox safe mode, restore everything to default, and clear cache and cookies... try also disabling all plug ins, and disabling Java (not Javascript, just java), if that doesnt work, you will need to erase Firefox and do a clean install, maybe you got a virus.

A total cash-grab by a 4th string development team with a filler plot that we already knew the general details of in the last game.
Introduces the most blatant Mary Sue since Alice of the RE films who completely steals the spotlight from Roxas, the alleged main character.
Has the same gameplay, same worlds, same enemies & even the exact same maps as the previous entries.
Takes the missions sidequest of Crisis Core & makes it the main quest.
Disney characters reduced to being even more filler than before.
The number of worlds is far less than in prior games & there are no new ones at all.
It's only saving grace is a multiplayer mode that's not even online (something that Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time had), heck single card play is questionable.
Said multiplayer mode is separate from the story mode, so no drop-in co-op or ability to actually play as any of the characters except one despite being the central crutch of the gameplay.
I'm buying it day 1 & importing the Japanese version in the meantime.
Freiza2000 wrote:Is this a new revelation? It sounds dubious.
No, Naka has said this 5 years ago in EDGE.

I don't know about that. I say they've proved they can be real impressive since last year...

Including 14 different playable characters in a game and only making 1 available via story mode is the goddamned stupidest idea I've ever heard.
