Staring too closely at the screen
In Sonic Riders Eggman’s diary is displayed in Bablon Rouge’s story. The date on the diary is 7002, which means that the Sonic series is set 4994 years in the future. The only evidence I have are these blurry captures, but when playing the game on a hi-definition TV, the date is much clearer.
Being set in the future would explain the advance tech that is seen in the Sonic games. It does not, however, explain how Sonic is 15 despite being born in 1947. (Courtesy of Hari Hari at Act Select)
In Sonic Adventure, the soles of Sonic’s shoe seem to have his name written on them when examined up close. I wasn’t able to take a picture. However, a quick search through Google images showed that this discovery had actually been spotted a year ago by SMTP on the Sonic Retro forums: I think it’s cute that Sonic feels the need to write his name on his shoes. ^_^
It is almost certainly 7002 and not 2002 as the initial number of the year is distinct from the final digital.Being set in the future would explain the advance tech that is seen in the Sonic games. Re: Staring too closely at the screen
SA1 and SA2 don't seem like 7002 to me (if you you only look at the newer games). The Riders games are a lot more futuristic though. Also hah, as if humans would still exist by then.
Though Sonic being set in the future is supported by the OVA, where in the Land of Darkness, Robotropolis lies in the middle of "ancient ruins" that look exactly like a huge city nowadays.

Or they have a completely different dating system than us. Great find though!big_smile wrote:The date on the diary is 7002, which means that the Sonic series is set 4994 years in the future.
The fact that his name is (apparently) molded into the sole of his shoes suggests that he has them custom made, which is probably the only way to get shoes that hold together at mach speed, even 5000 years in the future.
Where does the whole 1947 Mary Garnet thing come from? I know the beginning of the story was in the SA2 10th anniversary collector's booklet, but where does the rest come from?

Yeah that Mary Garnet thing, who could have implemented it? Oshima perhaps?

He might even be just 5010 years old in Sonic Riders.

It looks like it could just as well say, "2005" or "2007"...

Well, this is in Sonic Riders, which was released for the PC, right? So someone could just go hunting for the right texture file.

Re: Staring too closely at the screen
whoawhoawhoa, why have I never seen this before? This is more than highly interesting! It proves that my Sonic = nature vs. Robotnik = technology theory was correct, that the Sonic OVA really was the most faithful animated adaptation of Sonic and that all the post-Saturn games managed to get absolutely everything wrong about the portrayal of anyone but Tails, but he's a faggot anyway.big_smile wrote: The story

That's not a theory. Yuji Naka confirmed it in an Interview.P.P.A. wrote: It proves that my Sonic = nature vs. Robotnik = technology theory was correct

Apparetntly, if you stare very closely at the character selection screen in Sonic R, you can see a tattoo on Sonic (The shoulder buttons can be used to make the models larger).
Has anyone witnessed this? I have looked very carefully and never seen anything that resembles a tattoo.

Re: Staring too closely at the screen
Wait, what, in the 3D model? If so, it's either a rendering error or a flat out lie. My bet's on the former.
I've messed with the texture files for the models lots of times and there's nothing there, and I don't think they'd waste model polygons to add in a miniscule easter egg.
