Dear Fucking God - Someone Stop Ken Penders

Before rumors get out of hand and speculation goes amok, if all goes well within the next few weeks as everyone hopes, there will be a MAJOR announcement of interest to a great many gaming/sci-fi/fantasy fans made of this website along with many other venues,

For now, what I can claim to be operative are the following statements:

1) No, if will not involve any Sonic or Knuckles animated feature, unfortunately, but that doesn't mean a thing other than the fact we may have to take a more circuitous route than originally anticipated in order to achieve our intended goals where these projects in particular.

2) Yes, it will involve SEGA, and we have great confidence it will be the first of many such collaborations

3) Pre-production work on the script and production design has already begun.

4) We are already targeting four cities during the 2005 con season as part of our promotional effort - San Diego, Anahiem, San Francisco and Toronto. We may yet add addional cities - Boston, NY and Chicago come immediately to mind - to the itinerary.

I realize I'm opening the door to the guessing games, but when the news hits, I'd rather avoid the disappointment that the project isn't what we've all been hoping for at this time, but rather focus the excitement on what the project is.

This is THAT good. So stay tuned.

God! Instead of going after Sonic he's going to screw around with Sega other properties. Why doesn't anybody stop this man?!

None of his SEGA projects better not get off the ground.

The flaw I see with this move I that he isn't putting in Sonic and Knuckles. I mean, I doubt at this point, many people will care to watch a Sonic based movie without Sonic and Knuckles.

I think you've greatly misinterpreted him.

And yeah, Ken and his projects all suck.

Actual, I suspect Penders might put Sonic/Knuckles in somewhere in the movie. I'm not too sure what Sonicverse the movie takes place, but at the moment, I fear it may be Archie. If this thing hits movie theaters, I doubt it'll be a box office smash. Practically no one nowadays knows the Archie Sonic characters...as far as I'm concerned...

Trust me, concerning his movie project, I'm more or less in a mixed role. As someone who was overexcited for this movie the first time Penders mentioned it, but as the years rolled by, I lost interest. Now that he actually brought it up again...I'm mixed, especially with all the crap he's been doing lately.

But then again, I'm one of them, "We'll see when whatever projects is done before fully judging" person, so for the time being, my life towards this movie and yes, even future Pender's stories on Archie Sonic or whatever are undecided and won't be until I see the final results in my tiny, tiny hands.

I'm pretty sure that Ken was saying that what he's working on isn't an animated movie related to Sonic in any way at all.

I get the idea that this is going to have something to do with Ecco the Dolphin. I just have that sinking (pun intended) feeling.

You people do realize that Ken Penders is never going to accomplish anything, right?

I realize it!

But that said, I don't really have a problem with Ken or his work. His Sonic stories were always the least offensive, and I would even go as far to say that his Knuckles stories were good. I quite enjoyed the entire run of the Knuckles solo book, save the last three issues.

I wish he'd stop talking about this movie project nonsense. I'm inclined to agree with Pep... every one of his announcements is always disclaimered by a healthy "if all goes well within the next few weeks" or "if everything goes according to plan." It's all hot air.

Still, I don't think it's impossible that something will come out of this. I think Ken just has a talent for making it sound "bigger" than it really is. For example, I don't have a hard time imagining Ken as one of the staff writers on a series of direct-to-video Sega projects, or something like that.

My Two Cents...again

Oh, really? Okay, I didn't seem to think in terms of that. Alright, Ithink I understand what you meant by misintrepeting Penders.

I realize it!

I admit, I too enjoyed his Knuckles book (sans the last three) and even do today. I loved the character developments and engaging plot he has made. But I guess one of the glaring reasons why I don't enjoy Pender's work currently at the moment is his "slow approach." He takes it in a manga sense where most manga (well, the ones I've seen and read) are long and fat because they could have a lot of talkies and whatnot. Pender's current story seems to be doing just that. If this was in his own book (like a stand along graphic novel or return of Knux's book where the story can take place), I wouldn't have much of a problem with M25YL. An American style comic book ain't no manga.

I'm still gonna wait for further info, because to me, he still has little to nothing, and while I am mixed, I am more in the side of loosing interest.

Someone should make a movie about excite bike. That was the bestest game ever for NES.

Other than, y'know...Mario. And Zelda...and Metroid....okay well it was the best game involving a dirt bike for the NES!

They should make a bomberman movie!

*shuts up*

Ahaha, I'd laugh if what he wanted to do was a "NiGHTS into dreams" movie, because good ol' Dark Lord Naka would shoot him down SO FAST.

And you know it'd be funny to see Naka shoot someone. Fast or otherwise.

Oh god. No NiGHTS. No more. The fandom was bad enough the first time around. You wouldn't think such a small fandom would have so many goddamn fangirls. If a movie brought the fandom back with the same saturation of crazy squealing teenies? I will murder people.

The NiGHTS comic book miniseries really wasn't bad, amazingly.

Oh, yeah, the art was just incredible. And the dialogue! "It's a boy!" GENIUS.

Okay, so maybe memory improves things.

I was going to say something like that, but then I decided to be snarky.

Actually, I would have to agree that the NiGHTS adaptation was pretty damn good. I mean, the storyline they wrote killed all of the symbolism and ambiguty of the original, but it was far better than anything they ever did for Sonic.

And Spaz. You gotta love Spaz.

It was great, really! It was also my first exposure to the franchise, since I didn't have a Saturn.

But then there was that second Nights series... ow, my brain.

Posted: Thu Jul 29, 2004 3:12 pm
by Bo
There was a second one?

Posted: Thu Jul 29, 2004 3:30 pm
by Esrever
Yeah. Nights was stuck in the real world, and some terrorists called R.E.M. attacked the Twin Seeds tower for no explained reason, and some other stuff happened that was equally lame and poorly drawn.

I think it ended on a note that was meant to set up an ongoing franchise... where Nights would be like some kind of superhero who protected the real world from things that escaped from the dream world. Fortunately, it sold like crap.

The second seris of NiGHTS just confuzzled the licing daylights out of me and the art...goodness, I can't look at that thing for more then 5 seconds.

They should've just left it at 3 issues and then done a Christmas special to adapt Christmas NiGHTS. *shakes head*

Man, when was that? I quit reading the Sonic comics at #72, and that was a couple years after the NiGHTS miniseries.

Oh-fucking-noz.

This guy is rivalling George Lucas and John Edward as Biggest Douche In The Universe. ¬_¬ It's not like I care about his half-assed "projects", but seriously, he's a guy you just love to hate whether you actually want to or not.

and he cant draw knucles omglol

You cannot compare anyone to George Lucas. He is the Ultimate Douche To End All Douches.

You all know what he's doing to the "original trilogy" for the DVDs, right?
