It's recently been announced that a live-action Cowboy Bebop film is in the works.

When news of this broke, I was pretty enthusiastic. Cowboy Bebop is a show that seems like it would be easy to make
into a live-action film. Simply adapt the most important episodes of the series, and you really cant go wrong.

My hopes were dashed when I learned that one of the people behind the film, Erwin Stoff, just happens to be Keanu Reeves' agent,
meaning its very likely Keanu will have some role in the film.

If Jessica Alba is attached to this film, i'm starting a boycott. And by boycott, I mean, bitch about it on the internet, see it anyway when it comes out, then bitch about it some more.

Here's hoping he plays Vicious. Vicious really was a cold, quiet guy. Keanu lacks the energy and charisma that the character of Spike needs. someone on the link above mentioned Nathan Fillion as a perfect role for Spike. Ive yet to see anything featuring him, but he definltely looks the part to me. He just needs to grow Spike's curly jew-hair.

What do you guys think? Who would be your choice for the cast?

I'd love to see Nathan Fillion in another film (that's not an online musical about supervillains), but for me he's not exactly Spike material.

I could see Reeves as Vicious.

I don't see Fillion as Spike, though. I could totally buy him as Jet if he was only about 15-20 years older, though.

One day Hollywood will run out of source material and have to come up with their own stories. I think the only completely original film I've been interested in, to be released within the last 4 months, has been Hancock. The thing with Hancock is that it disappointed (even though I didn't have my hopes extremely high for it).

I hope Keanu doesn't star in this Bebop. They'd probably have him play Spike if he does. I'm already a little annoyed that he's going to be in the new The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Wasn't Hancock just black, drunk Superman?

Hey, pop an eye out and make him Scottish and you basically have Demoman: The Movie.

I think there's still original material out there that I find worthwhile - I liked WALL-E, for instance. You can't tell me THAT was an adaptation of something...

I honestly forgot about Wall-E, which I still haven't seen yet.

As shallow a character as Spike may seem to be, I can't picture Reeves doing a good job as him. I mean, he just doesn't have charisma, he isn't funny, and Spike's "badassery" comes from actual kung fu ability, not that wire fu nonsense.

About WALL·E, I just passed it on because there isn't a single goddamn subbed copy in either of the three theaters near my house, so I'll wait for the DVD release. I could consider watching the dubbed version, but all of Pixar movies are getting an exclusive Argentine dub that sucks ass and systematically ruins all of their movies.
And I watched Ratatouille some two weeks ago, it was sickeningly perfect.
