9th time's the charm

So Mega Man 9 has been all but confirmed, thanks to the OFLC. And it's about time. All these Zeros and Battle Networks and ZXs and Star Forces, but the original Blue Bomber himself has only seen, like, one new title since Rockman and Forte (not counting said titles GBA port), and that was just a (really awesome) remake of Mega Man [1], for a console I don't own. C'mon, Dr. Wily is too awesome a villain to just leave like that. Even if his plans are getting a tad repetitive at this point, a ten year wait can make even that seem somewhat fresh again.

Rumor has it that it's coming to XBLA and PSN, but there's absolutely no source for that one. Rumors also abound that the game will feature an 8-bit presentation (but Mega Man 8 looked awesome!), will have Proto Man playable (that'd be somewhat interesting), and WON'T expand upon the whole "Wily made Zero" plotline (which was awesome enough that they probably SHOULD have expanded upon it, but, eh).

Honestly, I want. Time to go collect some E-Tanks and bust the caps of a few Mets; it's been way too long.

Since Capcom has a tradition for not introducing change in their series unless it's a new series, like wall climbing in X or 3D for the Dash series. This gives me the impression that's it probably gonna be a 2d game yet again, though I still desire an awesome 3D platforming Rockman title based on the original series.

Also, I'm in the camp that doesn't like 8's style, I think it used too much squash and stretch. I also played Mega Man: Powered Up! and it was meh but I hated that super deformed art style.

Wouldn't it be awesome if 9 did the same thing as 3 and have you play through all the levels again against all 64 robot masters where there are 4 robot masters per level?

I also think that maybe this should be the last Rockman game that finally bridges the gap between the original series and X. I mean, it's been what, at least a decade and Capcom is still gonna leave that thread hanging? Oh wait, this is Capcom, nevermind.

I hope they won't do the same they did to Commando and 199x, an ugly 2.5D mess that is. Here's hope they'll use handdrawn sprites and backgrounds.
And too bad that the Wily-Zero thing won't be further elaborated on. :(

Wishlist:

* I wouldn't mind cell-shading
* I would kill for a Co-Op mode ala Power Battles. With Bass, Protoman, and Roll as the alternates. Or the original 8 Robot Masters from the remake.
* If it's in 3-D I want Lego Star-Wars Style gameplay.
* I want Rush to play a significant part.
* There should be more than 8 bosses. There should be 16. 8 new ones and the best one from every previous game.
* I wouldn't mind the Zero story being elaborated upon as long as it doesn't end in that stupid fanon "Zero kills the entire old cast because they weren't extreme enough" ending.

I wouldn't mind cel-shading if it was handled like it was in Treasure Island Z.

I don't really care about Zero elaboration. I mean, we all know he was created by Wily, what more is there to need to know? I think the only answer I really want is why Rock, Roll, Blues, and all of the old cast were put out of commission, or if they weren't, then why they aren't present in the X storyline. I know Rightot had a cameo in an X game but it seemed more humorous than an answer to their absence.

Actually, their absence really should've been handled in an X game. It would've been awesome if X came across Light's old laboratory to find a Dr. Light machine thing and saw Rock and Roll in glass tubes out of commission as a cameo. It'd be as awesome as when we saw the Metal Sonics in Sonic Adventure.

I don't want to see Mega Man with cell shading. Ever. What's wrong with simple 2-D or 3-D with a forced 2-D perspective?

I'll laugh if Capcom gets Dimps to make this game.

I can't believe GG! didn't have a temper tantrum about Cuckooguy writing "Treasure Island Z".

I vote for 2D, though while it would have been a pretty safe bet had the game been announced as a DS title (or even Wii after the new Wario Land's announcement), now that it says multi-platform we're probably screwed up.

As a fellow Megaman fan (well, more of a X fan, but anyway) I say you're being pretty darn optimistic.
Just out of curiosity, what bosses would you pick from the previous games?

Wasn't the terrible celshading in X7 enough for you guys?

You know, lately I've gotten the feeling that GG! doesn't like cell shading. Do you guys think there's anything to that, or am I just overreacting?

I was going to mention that in my first post, but I forgot which X game did that. Thanks for reminding me.

We better finally get a Met Man now.

You don't really want a Met man, you want Met Prime or something as a boss, like the Yellow Devil except he's made out of Mets.

X8 did some light cel-shading and that game rocks. And please god no more Met bosses, the ones we already have are all a humongous pain in the ass.

I stopped playing the X series at 5, like we were fucking supposed to

5 sucks too. The series peaked at X4. We went from beautiful 2d cutscenes to. . . sliding images and text.

Really long-winded, mostly unskippable text. Nevertheless, I wouldn't hold as much a grudge against it myself if not for that intensely convoluted parts system, which I still have a hard time getting my head around. (Cryptically, X6 fixed that. Sort of.)

But if you have a PS2 and not X8, you really should try it. Call it a lost episode to yourself or whatever, just get around to it. It fits into the saga very nicely, doesn't sacrifice anything worth mentioning in going to 3D. It's at least as fun as X4, possibly more if you can stand the parts shop system better than I did.

"Beautiful 2d cutscenes"...that, tis a stretch.

Before I learned that Mega Man X had sequels I thought it was the tenth game in the series.

So did Capcom, apparently.

I'd rather have a beautiful game like Megaman 8 than an 8-bit likeness. Unless they make the most awesome 8-bit graphics game ever.

Man, what I really want is a new Megaman Legends on the Wii! What kind of world do we live in where there are like 20+ games in the battle network series and counting, but no new Megaman Legends? You're supposed to LIKE sequels, Capcom!

Fuck Megaman, give me 4-player online Power Stone 3 on the 360 or PS3.

There was a rumor a few months ago that Capcom was working on a new Megaman Legends game using the Lost Planet engine. According to the rumor it was being made for PS3 and Xbox 360.
