Sega Racing

Post by aso »

Recently, while doing an errand at Publix with my younger sister, I saw a few Hot Wheels packages in a check-out lane and decided to give them a quich look.

The other cars seemed to be the standard style, but one at the very top was something I hadn't even heard of to this point: a Sega 'Shinobi' car. Needless to say, I purchased it.

According to the front, this was only the 3rd (a 'Lotus Espirit') out of 5. A quick look to the back revels four other cars. The entire series, apparently, is:

Space Channel 5 (Fandango)
Super Monkey Ball (GT Racer)
Shinobi (Lotus Espirit)
House of the Dead (Phantom)
Jet Set Radio Future (Custom Cougar)

Apparently these were released some time last year... I'd like to know, has anyone else here seen the rest of these?

Add: Link showing off the cars.

They sound pretty cool, but I haven't heard of them before. One question: What the fuck is Publix?

Yeah, I bought two full sets. One for me, one for my brother. I'll post a picture later if I can be bothered to. Maybe.

I don't think they have those in North Carolina. They have 'em in South Carolina, though.

Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee.

Of course, it's entirely possible that they haven't updated their site for a year or so, so one may very well be in North Carolina, too.

Where'd you get them? I'd like to get the other four cars.

I had to dig around in Wal-Mart and Toys R Us. They have these huge piles or aisles of Hot Wheels, and you just have to look pretty hard. Good luck with that.

It might have been in South Carolina. Back when I lived in Maryland my family went on road trips to Florida and South Carolina all the time. I just know it was one of the Carolinas.

I'd only heard of Publix in a book series I read, and then when I went to Georgia for the Olympics (spectator, I wasn't participating) and last year for vacation, they were all over the place. Who knew? Regional chains always interest me.
There's a bunch of gas stations called something like "Cum and Go" in Iowa, which I discovered this week.

Have you guys ever heard of a gas station/sandwich place called Wawa? They had them on the northeastern coast if I remember correctly. Or am I just insane?

I seen 'em... at least I think so, but weither you're sane or not is for the courts to decide. Never heard of a "Cum and Go" though, and I've done some travelling.

I've heard of a "Hot n' Ready". It was a small chain of fast-food joints in South Florida. Damn good burgers, actually. But of course, their somewhat suggestive name sank the franchise before it's time.

There was also a cartoon series called "Ruff n' Ready". What were they thinking?
