I have written something

It is not a plot for an awesome movie I want to direct, nor is it a story I wrote about mystical wizards gathering some sort of stones to save an ever-burgeoning fantastical world full of unicorns and wood-elves. It is about Panzer Dragoon Saga. It expounds on why exactly it was (and is) one of the best games on the Saturn or any other platform (to a great depth!). It will entertain and inform you. It will, perhaps, even infotain you. Unless you're Popcorn and you already know everything there is to know about it anyways. But I figure most of you are not Popcorn. More importantly most of you have not played Panzer Dragoon Saga. And that needs fixin'.

Chop chop!

It always kills me how I got this game for twenty dollars at Toys 'R Us in 1998. Rarely did I ever ask my mother to buy me something on the spot like that, but being a huge Panzer Dragoon fan after the first two games, I had to have it. Usually she would have said no, but I think she realized how wide-eyed I was at that moment, since there was only one copy left.

The one thing I do hate about the game, is that because it was so far ahead of its time, it set my standards so bloody high. The only part of the game that has not aged very well is the graphics, but even then, one has to appreciate the quality they put into both the original monster designs, and the fluid animation that put just about every other RPG to shame in that era. It's worth noting that the game didn't have 10948012984 pallette swapped monsters, either.

Almost a decade old and it's still one of the best games ever, and I usually hate RPGs.

I want it. But it costs so damn much. ;_;

I've played a bit of the first disc on an emulator... barely gotten past meeting Gash. Honestly, I'd rather save the rest for a console, since the emulator has frameskip like mad.

Less of us are Popcorn than I would like.

I liked it, though it didn't give much insight about the general gameplay and combat as I'd like (text-wise, videos aside). Plus there was this somewhat uncalled-for Final Fantasy VII (and maybe Xenogears) bashing, which while I don't have much problem with it still sounds like whining.
I also liked the one by Nick Evil (the SEGA BASTARD guy); he makes it clear that he hates RPGs and still love PDS and TLoZ: OoT.

No fruity hair styles.
I like how you say that, then immediately below is a picture of Azel and her literal "tail of hair".

"Fruity hair styles" has been changed to "fruity, spiked-out hair styles" so I sound like less of a hypocrite. Your vigilance is appreciated- I think I have played Saga so much that I pretty much accept everything in it as 'normal' now, no questions asked. Ever. For example, my original response was going to be along the lines of "IT IS NOT FRUITY YOU FUCKING BASTARD!"

Upon a quick re-read I thought it perhaps wise to reel that shit in.

Jeez, how many people here write for Sega Nerds anyhow?
a constant battle for areal supremacy.
Not to be a prick, but I believe you mean "aerial." And it was a good read, thanks for sharing!

Looks like it's actually areal, because of the strategical movement around the enemies' zones.

Well, damn. That's the second time my dictionary has failed me.

No, I meant aerial originally. I guess it could be both, but I'm not that clever. At least I was never technically wrong

Heh, I'm just so darn ingenuous.

While we're at it, CulT's up again... ?
