I'll assume that Silv is aware of them.

Poor Silv, we all know how hard it's been on him ever since they implemented the Amber Alerts.

What are the Amber Alerts?

A system to give CNN and Fox News huge ratings boosts whenever any child is out of their parents' site for 2 hours.

Which episode? What's the story behind this?

It was just a crappy translation by a fansub group that is now defunct.
Or it could be happening in real life, but the news crews decided to cel-shade and subtitle it... to lessen the shock.

Yeah. The correct translation was "mass kidnappings."

That's a pretty big mix-up.

AnimeJunkies...
Weren't they the same group that got in trouble with Geneon or whichever company that co-funed/licensed Ninja Scroll TV for fansubbing it even after company requested they stop?

They just got unpopular. The company, Urban something, funded the production of Ninja Scroll TV, so it was licensed from the beginning.

Besides Bo's accurate description, they are also a way of 'alerting the nation' that some kid went missing. Became huge a couple years ago when a bunch of kids went missing one after the other and mass media got ahold of it, instead of ignoring it for celebrity interviews as they usually do.

Funny story about the Amber Alert thing. The radio station where I work part time at sponsored a fireworks show (for the fourth, of course) and was going to be playing the soundtrack to the event. See, the people in charge of the fireworks wantetd to sync up the music with what people would be seeing to create a better experience for all.
Well, of course, I was working in the studio that night to be the one to have to sync it up, so I'd have to keep in contact with the fireworks guys to make sure everything was going smooth. It goes smooth enough from my end and everything seems to be right in the world, until BLAAAGH... BLAAAGHH... BLAAAGHH... the fuckin' minute-and-a-half long Amber Alert comes on, knocking out most of that Lee Greenwood song. I was just sitting there cracking up. The fireworks guys, along with the entire crowd, had to be pissed.
Best part of the story? They'd already found the kid about an hour before the alert went off.
I thought it was great.

It was Urban Vision. Out of all the distribution companies in North America, Geneon seems to care the least about bootleggers, probably because they charge so damn much for their stuff.
Even though Anime Junkies is gone, I have to continue to suffer with their "interpretation" of Gundam SEED on my fansubs.

Is animeJunkies really gone? Can you "kill" a fansub group? Wouldn't they just regroup under a different name? Of course, of all the groups to kill that would be the best one.

Even they regroup and call themselves under a different name, word of who they used to be might get out and spread discouraging people from downloading their fansubs.
Well, that's what I like to see happen.

There were some disagreements among members, so they split up. They ain't gonna be forming again.
Or will they?!!!
