I Need New Music
So I want all of you to reccommend something to me. A good band, your favorite song, funny stuff, serious stuff, rock, pop, punk, metal, indie, ska, vgame, anime, jpop, anything. I'm absolutely desperate for something that I can listen to without fear of having my brain squeeze out through my pores in an attempt to escape.
SK is exempt because I already know what he's going to say.

My favorite artist would most definitely be Beck. I own all of his albums, and a few singles, and I have yet to find much of his stuff that I don't like. I even got to see him in concert in December of '02. As for his best work? I like Mutations, Midnite Vultures, & Sea Change the best, so I'll recommend my favorite songs from those albums.
Mutations
Cold Brains
Nobody's Fault But My Own
We Live Again
Tropicalia
Bottle of Blues
Static
Diamond Bollocks
Midnite Vultures
Sexx Laws
Nicotine & Gravy
Get Real Paid
Broken Train
Beautiful Way
Debra
Sea Change
The Golden Age
Guess I'm Doing Fine
Lost Cause
Sunday Sun
Little One
Side of the Road
If you like that, I'll be happy to recommend more.

Norweigan Wood (This Bird Has Flown) - Beatles
Lucky Man - Verve
Hair of the Dog - Nazareth
Hold On - John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band
Prototype - OutKast
Bicycle Race - Queen
Handsome Man - Robbie Williams
Oh Yoko! - John Lennon
Feelin' Alright - Traffic
Boris the Spider - Who
Jet - Paul McCartney & Wings
Upside Down - Barenaked Ladies
Shine - Collective Soul
Can't Stand Losing You - Police
The Times They Are A-Changing - Bob Dylan
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
Angie - Rolling Stones
Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix
I Want You - Bob Dylan
Garden - Pearl Jam

I want to list more, but that's probably too much as it is. You can't go wrong with any of these songs.

Anything at all by Muse, especially their last album (Absolution). Daft Punk: Digital Love, Aerodynamic, anything off the Discovery album and anything off the Homework album if you can stands it. Ben Folds! Maaya Sakamoto has done some of the loveliest music of all time, and also some of the shittest: try Active Heart, Gift and Rule. Free: All Right Now. Damien Rice.

Get the Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex OSTs, they're sublime. Also a number of Pink Floyd tracks-- Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb, In the Flesh-- the list goes on...
Oh, and--

If only it were possible to send stabbings through the internet...Green Gibbon! wrote:Utada Hikaru sucks! And she doesn't even do that well, I could get a better blowjob from Popcorn's dad.
Hikaru is perfect. Nothing comes close to attaining her talent and cuteness :D, if there was some sort of religion based around her, I would be the first convert.
As for Maaya Sakamoto, she's nice, but I prefer Hikaru's songs. There's just such variety. And I think that Hikaru sings better, in general. Sakamoto can do some nice things with her voice (like in Hemisphere), but Hikaru... It's like comparing a Transformer-Autobot-BMW-thing (Hikaru) to a stock 94' Honda Civic (Sakamoto)... Both are nice cars, but one is just so insanely... um, fan-gasmic.
Plus Hikaru is much cuter ;D

Gibbon, If you like the FLCL soundtrack, then the Pillows albums you are going to LOVE are "Happy Bivouac," "Runner's High," and "Little Busters." Most of the soundtrack was lifted from those three albums.
I'm going to do like Grant did and name some specific songs that are awesome.
One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces - Ben Folds Five
Best. Song. Ever.
Happy Bivouac - The Pillows
My favourite Pillows song. Kind of like Weezer goes to the circus. In Japan. Or something.
Jacquline - Franz Ferdinand
Like the Strokes, only it doesn't sound like every member of the band is dead.
Song #1 - IMA Robot
Hyper.
The Mechanical Man Vs. The Robot From The Outer Limits - Schoolyard Heroes
Come on, you KNOW you want to hear this one.
Opium of the People - Slipknot
Almost sounds more like System than Slipknot, but still very, very good.
Everything Went Numb - Streetlight Manifesto
These guys are the best new ska band I've heard in ages.
The Step - !!!
I don't even know how to describe this exactly. It's like... indie funk disco. Good luck searching for a band with a name like "!!!". You might have to resort to the accepted romanized spelling, "Chik Chik Chik."

If you are into Prog-rock then i reccomend Dream Theater. Especially the songs "The Glass Prison", "Pull Me Under", "Through Her Eyes", and "Scenes From A Memory". Be warned many of their songs exceed 10 minutes each.
I also love James Iha and Jeff Buckley for nice acoustic music. For James Iha i reccomend "No-one's Gonna Hurt You" and "Lover Lover". For Buckley "Mojo Pin", "Dream Brother" and the sin-e version of "Lover You Should've Come Over"
For new songs The Cure's "Lost" is fantastic.
Oh and R.E.M.'s "Shiny Happy People" because everybody should hear that! That and Jimmy Eat World's "Your House" because that is a beautiful song that shall forever be in my top 10 songs ever. I'd say some Iron Maiden too, but something tells me you wouldn't like them?

Listen to ska. Then more ska. After that, a finely balanced diet of SKA.
You can not get enough ska.
Meanwhile, some bands for your enjoyment:
If you're happy:
Catch 22
Reel Big Fish
RX Bandits
Bad Manners
Madness
Fuck it, anything even remotely ska
If you're chillin':
Maroon 5 ("Sunday Morning" is especially good for this)
Bob Marley & The Wailers
If you feel like crying:
Train
Goo Goo Dolls
Beatles (Look for "In My Life")
If you're in the mood to rawk:
Queen
Lostprophets (Their new album is fucking classic)
AC/DC
Tenacious D
Farse (They're skacore so it doesn't count as happy)
Foo Fighters
Queens Of The Stone Age
Red Hot Chili Peppers
If you're hiphoppin':
Jurassic 5
Pharcyde
Busdriver
Run DMC
If you're a bit weird or want a laugh:
Big Dumb Face (Get "Mighty Penis Laser")
Bill Bailey (Funniest musical comedian ever - look for "Cockney Medley" "Medieval Porn" and "Midnight In Parliament Square")
Group X
If you're angsty or at all anti-authorial:
Sex Pistols
The Clash
Ramones
Green Day
Assorted Jelly Beans
Rage Against The Mchine
I think that's about all my "playlist" bands - whether you'll like it or not is another matter, but they're recommended.
If all else fails, go ska.
