Now, Atlus announces a sequel to the game--Odin Sphere! It's for the PS2 but thankfully it is coming to North America. Joy!
I would attempt to discuss the 2D beauty of this game, but I think it would be better to let the screenshots speak for themselves:

More Screenshots is available one the official webpage(check out that Sakimoto score): http://www.atlus.com/odinsphere/
You can also see it in action with this video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lU8zyH7XP5Q
Features from this game include and I quote:
The English version game comes out this Spring which is supposedly around the same time or earlier as the Japanese version. Good to see Atlus is making progress with this release. This is one of my most anticipated games of this year. =)Gorgeous hand-drawn artwork and animations!
Intense side-scrolling action with astonishing attacks and magic effects!
Fully-voiced dialogue that heightens the drama!
Fantastic bosses that tower over the protagonists!
Five playable characters in all; each one’s fate is intertwined with the others’!
A robust cooking and alchemy system that can be used to create powerful attack and recovery items!
