While I was in Japan recently, I discovered, to my delight, that a live action adaptation of Osamu Tezuka's Dororo was being made. Sadly, the movie was due to arrive in theatres at the end of this month, and I didn't stay long enough to see it. Anyway, the film looks absolutely kickass and I very much want to see it. I think it should be out by now, so I've been trying to find a recording of it somewhere. The trouble is that I'm not very internet-savvy, so if anybody here happens to spot it, would you mind pointing it out to me?

If you haven't heard of Dororo, the Wiki tells you all you need to know. SEGA fans might know of it since there was a video game adaptation called Blood Will Tell in the West. The story is an awesome concept and I became smitten with it as soon as I heard of it. I really hope this movie sees US shores.

Instead of being a sega game, what attracted me to dororo/blood will tell was that the game designs were made by Hiroaki Samura, one of my favourite manga authors (Muguen no juunin/sword of the immortal). But the game rocks itself, with a great story (by Tezuka) and a great design (by Samura) the only important point remaining was the gamming, which is based purely on combos and levelling up and finding new skills to be a demon killing machine.

I didn't know anything about the movie, thanks for the advice, it doesn't look bad (for a japanese sci-fi movie...)

The boss designs in the game are fantastic. Most of the game's appeal is in the boss battles anyway, and the great designs are a testiment to that. But I never finished the game -- I should go back sometime soon.

I remember seeing Hiroaki Samura's name in the opening credits and wondering who he was. Blade of the Immortal is familiar, but I've never read it. The art looks awesome though, so I think I'll pick it up.
