I've heard the answer is a flat 'no' as far as running import PS1 and PS2 games on a PS3 goes.Popcorn wrote:That really is fantastic news. I'm a big importer, and not having to get an illegal chip installed will be a real bonus. Do you think it'll be able to run imported PS2 games, too? (I have half a dozen of the things.)

I actually didn't know about this myself until just a month or two ago, and to this I give Kutaragi and his chimps a happy thumbs up. Region locking has become so utterly pointless it can only be a waste of resources.
I wonder if companies will still be able to include region lock on the software side, though? Isn't that the case with the 360? And aren't nearly all games released for it region coded?

Sony says it won't but I don't remember why.Do you think it'll be able to run imported PS2 games, too?

I'm not sure if this has already been posted but:

I really don't know what to make of it. It's a highly interesting development.

Apparently only Freeloader Version 1.06b works on Wii.
PS3 being region free is good news. Up to 200 PS2 games refusing to work on the PS3, kinda off sets the balance.
