That really is fantastic news. I'm a big importer, and not having to get an illegal chip installed will be a real bonus. Do you think it'll be able to run imported PS2 games, too? (I have half a dozen of the things.)

Old news? It's fucking March news, geez, it puzzles me that anyone who visits any kind of game site/forum could have missed this.

I've heard the answer is a flat 'no' as far as running import PS1 and PS2 games on a PS3 goes.

I actually didn't know about this myself until just a month or two ago, and to this I give Kutaragi and his chimps a happy thumbs up. Region locking has become so utterly pointless it can only be a waste of resources.

I wonder if companies will still be able to include region lock on the software side, though? Isn't that the case with the 360? And aren't nearly all games released for it region coded?

Sony says it won't but I don't remember why.

I'm not positive, but from what I've heard most Japanese games will run on a 360, but they are not guarenteed too.

Why is the PS3 region free, but then they sue companies like Lik-Sang for selling consoles to other regions?

In other news, apparently Freeloader works for Gamecube games running on the Wii.

I'm not sure if this has already been posted but:

I really don't know what to make of it. It's a highly interesting development.

Apparently only Freeloader Version 1.06b works on Wii.

PS3 being region free is good news. Up to 200 PS2 games refusing to work on the PS3, kinda off sets the balance.
