Gibbon!, have you considered just making it a Wiki? Of course, I don't mean one where absolutely everyone can swoop in and create or edit a page as they like, but one where registered members can write entries or make corrects at your approval. And even if entries are written by others, you'd easily be able to go back and edit them to your own liking, establishing what you feel should be a definitive entry, at your own leisure.

I'm sure this has been considered before, and I can imagine why you'd be skeptical, but this is probably the only way it's ever going to get even half done.

I can get one up and running in less than a day.

I demand that this be done.

Oh sure, one more obligation to worry about. I can't speak for him, but wading through submissions that keep piling up when it's not necessary sounds like no fun to me. Didn't you guys try something this difficult to maintain years ago?

My suggestion is to trim off the useless excess entries for every little enemy and boss, so there will be less to do when it comes time to update it again. There are museum pages for this, and ask yourself how many people come to this site looking for an entire page detailing everything about the first boss from the japanese release of a Game Gear game released 13 years ago.

They wouldn't have to be "submissions". People would just post them, and if GG! didn't like certain entries he could remove them or tweak them, which would be far better than having to write every single one himself from scratch.

In other words, "wading through submissions that keep piling up when it's not necessary".

Yeah, I guess we could do that so long as it only stays open to mods or other select volunteers of superior writing ability, but the layout needs to be changed first. I hate having that frame there, at least the way it is now, and Flash has a point about the excess. I want it to be as complete as possible, but the MacGuffins kind of dilute the more interesting content in the encyclopedia's present form. We could move the enemies and whatnot into a separate bestiary sort of glossary, but there are other issues such as, for example, the Station Square burger shop. As irrelevant as it is to the continuity, it's an interesting landmark and the scene of a peculiar romance and it could be argued that the burger shop statue is a critical ingredient in the mythos of Station Square itself. The logical solution would be to include all this information in the general "Station Square" entry, but does it deserve a listing that cross-links directly to the Station Square article? And what about, say, the president's secretary or the know-it-all kid or Chaos Soda? We would need to set specific guidelines as to what articles deserve an entry and which ones don't.

And I'll be damned if I didn't just spontaneously use the word "mythos" while talking about Sonic the Hedgehog.

Why not? That's plenty useful and efficient.

On a slightly related note, what are the qualifications for doing a museum page? Aside from that it must be clear, concise, and accurate. I would be happy to do the Shadow page if GG! refuses to, he seemed non to thrilled about the thought.

I don't think the point here is to make the entire museum into a wiki; just the encyclopedia. So no entire game entries.

As for layout, the wiki would look pretty much exactly like Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/) since it would be the same app. I don't know how much I can alter the appearance since I've never touched it before. But yeah, I can have it installed and working in under a day.

I've been involved in several fandom wikis over the years (Transformers, Pokemon, Digimon, and some various time in others if you must know) and it really is the best way to do things these days. Everything stays organized, you can have pages on the minutest details as long as someone takes the time to do it, and with many people contributing just for the hell of it, they grow and are completed in a relatively short amount of time compared to one or two guys trying to write articles in their spare time.

By the way, I reccomend you guys look at the Transformers teletran wiki. It's a wiki that has a lot of information but also a lot of clever humor and isn't shy of praising something while making fun of its sillier aspects. Pretty much what we'd want from a GHZ Sonic wiki, I suspect.

How do you start a Wiki anyway?

And as far as writing for the Wiki is concerned...well, I may not be the sharpest wedge of cheese, but I'll be goll-durned if I'm not a stickler for grammar and spelling. You give me information and I'll be able to proofread and edit it quick-like.

I wonder if Wikipedia has information on how to do that.

Unfortunately, Gibbon! Removed the funny stuff from the museum, like that about Sonic going on drugs that ended in a game called labyrinth…

That's because all the paragraphs about the game prior to the story section were removed when he started renovating the pages.
