Name that toon! Or: Yes, I'm back, quit bitching about it.

Some years ago, the Sci-fi Channel, an American cable network, had a programming block every Saturday call "Saturdy Anime". My Dad told me never to watch it, because they tended to show stuff with major-league adult content, stuff that you probably wouldn't even be able to show on "Adult Swim" (they commercials always had a parental advisory on them. The whole thing was a subversive twist on the old "Saturday Morning Cartoons" that have been a mainstay of televsion brodacts for decades.
AS stated before, my Dad was against me seeing anything on it, so I was quite surpriesed to one day seeing him watching -- and enjoying an installment of the series. After hiding in the other room, watching his reactions (something I always did when someone was watching something for "grown-ups"), I eventually wandered in and ask him what it was. If I remember correctly (and I usually do), it was set in medieval Japan, and featured a group of kids who had built a gigantic clockwork robot for their village's festival. They then proceded to fight a mad scientist with his own giant robot... made of bricks. The vilain blasted the kid's robot with cannons, and the kids fought back with fireworks. It was pretty sweet.
The film had a sense of humor, and may have been complied from an O.V.A. or T.V. series. That's all I know about it.
So... could anyone solve a mystery and tell me what the hell this flick was called?
P.S.: Okay Grant, pat yourself on the back: yes, I'm bisexual (I came out to my parents last week). Just thought you should know, and if you shouldn't, I really don't care. :P
