PoPoLoCrois: Living it up in a game that I can't pronounce.

It's an interesting game that takes cues from SRPGs as well as incorporating the standard ATB system. The end result is a rather impressive fighting system with a story that feels like it's going to be good. I'm barely into the game (I think I've played for an hour total), and I'm already addicted. I don't know if it will hold up well for 30 hours, though.

Which one are you playing? I didn't even know they'd ever released any of these in the US?

I'm playing the latest incarnation (or so I assume) on the PSP. I had no prior knowledge of the game, so I picked it up on a whim, and I was pleasantly surprised. As far as I know, it's the only one they've released.

I'm pretty sure the PSP one is a port of the first game. Figures that they'd release this in the States but not any of the Suikoden or Rockman Dash ports.

Popolocrois is not hard to pronounce. Po-Po-lo-ku-ro-I-su
As for the PSP version, it's actually the original PSX and PopoloRogue (the sequel) mashed together with an added mini story in the middle and "ANIMÉ CUTSCENES oMG FUCKING wjhoa!".
From what i've heard, the story has gotten a lot of changes, therefore the game could be considered inferior compared to the original, but the gameplay is still there, and thats all that really matters in a game, right?

I wouldn't know, but I'm enjoying it nonetheless.

I thought "crois" is pronounced "croy" or "craw", or something. Unless it's just those Japanese being crazy again.

I was pronouncing it Po-Po-Lo-Croy.

I'm pronouncing it the same as in the first anime series (set between the original and sequel). There is definately a 's' sound at the end. But the 'su' is not too strong. It's simply pronounced how it's spelt.

I'm playing PoPoLoCrois too on the PSP. It seemed a bit weird at first, but I'm enjoying it quite a lot now.
The translation is terrible at points though. And the burst loading's a bit weird.

For the record, get PoPoLoCrois instead of Kingdom of Paradise, if you are at all considering the latter. I thought I wanted an action rpg for the PSP, but what I really wanted was a good action rpg for the PSP. The Voiceovers are so bad they make me want to rip into my eardrums with a long toothpick, and the gameplay is rediculously repetitive. Additionally, events are scripted one after the other, so that you never really get a chance to heal up properly or stock up again. This results in you playing the same three or four fights over and over again until you finally figure out what obscure thing you're supposed to accomplish in the last on that will stop your impending death. In conclusion: PoPoLoCrois is fun like watching little puppies in the Summertime, bounding about and sniffing away with wonder and curiosity. Kingdom of Paradise is like that old dog that your aunt has that you only see at familiy reunions, which nobody really likes and might bite little children if they got near enough.

Cartoon Network used to show the PoPoLoCrois anime very early in the mooring...I liked it, even if I missed most of the episodes.

Yeah, the burst loading is fucked up. But it's okay.

Handhelds should not have load times.

No games should be even moderatly unplayable, but I've come to understand that some developers can't seem to distinguish between a "good" game and a "bad" game.

Neither can many players, due to something called "varying opinions." But I shouldn't talk, especially not in this thread, since I've never played it.

I found out today that some don't care, working only for the money.

Oh, they can distinguish all right. It a game makes money, it's a good game.

Then why did they make Sonic Heros the way they did?

I try. But if I really defended them with my life, I'd be dead now, since I lose all of my arguments.
Why am I
still a bigot? I realized (eventually) how stupid I was being and apologized, dammit, plus I've seen how close I came to unwittingly getting a new avatar.

Sonic Heroes made money, especially in Europe. I blame J-man.
