Now, we all remember the earlier games of Sonic, on the Genesis. They often parodied other things, e.g. Star Wars, Dragonball Z. So, maybe Sonic's early success was helped by the parodies they did.
Now if we look to more recent games, they come as very original in story lines, etc. Perhaps, by using parodies, they were able to focus on the gameplay. So maybe Sonic Team should do them again in new games.
discuss.
A realization.

This is where I get really, really geeky; I did some research on this awhile back.
Okay, according to Daimao's DBZ Episode Guide, the episode where Goku went Super Saiyan was, infact, episode 95, "Transformed At Last!! Son Goku, the Legendary Super Saiyan", with a broadcast date of June 12, 1991, a scant few days before Sonic 1's USA release.
Now, after the Freeza Saga FINALLY finished out, apparently the anime had, infact, caught up to the manga (to give the manga a greater head-start in content, the anime went into filler episodes - The Garlic Jr. Saga). That would mean Goku's transformation in the manga would've probably landed around maybe April or May of that same year. It would've been a hot-topic of discussion at the very least. (especially considering Dragonball Z was ment to end at the Freeza Saga; but Toei forced Toriyama to keep going)
So, uh. Yeah. The more you know ~*
