Well, with the announcement that two Megaman games are being made for the PSP - both of them 3-D graphic enhanced remakes of games that are 10-20 years old: Megaman and Megaman X - I have to wonder?
Who gets whored out more by whom?
Sonic, with his hoarde of compliations?
or
Megaman, with his endless stream of games period?

Sonic has had more cartoons.

Hell, I don't know. They're both pretty much whored out to their respective limits at this point, just in different ways.

To be far there was a long gap after the Mega Drive where we hardily saw Sonic at all. Even on the Dreamcast he only had two Adventure outings and one er... interesting spin off (I've never played Shuffle). Has Megaman had a large break like that?

Speaking of Mega Man, I recently played the first stage of Mega Man X8 at a friend's house, and I got to the end of the first stage, and I was filled with glee when Vile made his reappearance.
Thanks to that experience, now I have to play X8 because of my shallow liking to the presence of Vile.

Both are whored out, but at least Capcom respect its fans.

Bullshit, sir. Bullshit.

Agreed. I don't believe Cara's news.

You know, most Megaman games are made for the fans. They even orginized a way (with the help of some fan site) to hear suggestions for Megaman X Collection and upcoming games (something SEGA never did), and they seem to be fulfilling the deal so far.

Megaman is definitely more whored out than Sonic. Sega has certainly tried, but no one could compete with that kind of volume. The Battle Network series has matched the numbers of the entire original Megman franchise in, what, four years?

Capcom tried to get back to X's roots with Rockman X8, and in my opinion they suceeded. X8 is almost as good as X4. (After they hit rock bottom with X6 and X7).
Sonic, on the other hand, just seems to be getting worse.

Rockman is definitly more whored out than Sonic, but honestly, the new Rockman games are at least a million times better than most of the newer Sonic ones. I do agree with Cara that Capcom respects their fans more, but not really to the point where it effects the way they make their games. Bah, I don't know how to explain it!

Would it kill them to let him duck? Or did they do that and I just stopped playing them before it happened? I am fairly certain they would not do such a sensible thing.

They introduced ducking in X5, although I don't know if it's been in every game since.

Did it help any, or did the enemies just shoot a couple pixels lower?

I sure wish you'd tell me what new Rockman games
you've been playing, because all the ones I've ventured to try since X5 have been abysmal.

Dude, doesn't Megaman get a game out like every month while Sonic...a year...or so? I don't know.

I dunno, the Mega Man Zero games were pretty good, though Capcom seems determined to run that franchise into the ground as well.
I haven't found any of the recent Mega Man X games to be all that great. I mean, I had more fun with X8 than I did with Sonic Heroes, but that's not saying much. It seems like the best either series can hope for is another mediocre entry, cause "mediocre" is pretty much the best both of them can do right now. The only difference between the two is the frequency in which they appear-- Capcom releases multiple disappointing Mega Man games each year, where as Sonic Team likes to get our hopes up by building up hype for one game, and then they piss all over our faces like they did with Sonic Heroes.
Though, Sonic Team did prove that Sonic could be done well in 3d with SA 1 and 2, while Capcom still hasn't provided a real, good, 3d Megaman game. X8 was pretty much 2D gameplay with 3D graphics...

I actually really liked the Megaman Legends games, both of them. Inasmuch as they can be considered Megaman games, anyway. Tron's mah lady.

The Legends games are swell!
But I mean really. No one can out whore Megaman. By my count, Sonic has had 11 seperate games in the post DC era. The Megaman franchise has more than that for the GBA alone. Hell, Battle Network by itself is 11 games if you include the upcoming entries. And then you've got the two compilation titles, the three Zero games, the three new X games, the Rockman and Forte port, the Gamecube Battle Network spinoff...
Who the hell is still buying all these games, anyhow?

I don't think the userbase is much of an issue when total development costs for each new title average $15 bucks.

So, which video game series do people think has been able to withstand the tests of time and still regularly gets subsequent sequels to them? I'd say Final Fantasy in that there has been, at least, a consistent amount of quality put into the games, but I don't think Final Fantasy really has been that good to begin with, because Square seems to refuse employing good writers.
I guess King's Quest has maintained a consistent amount of quality throughout the series (never played the the latest one).
Metal Gear Solid is a good series where all of them have been pretty good so far, but each time a new installment comes in, my interest seems to be wane.
I've only played the first two Monkey Islands, but they're both hilarious, though I think the second one is weaker in the fact that a lot of the jokes depend on being mean to people.
Has there been a horrible Shining Force title yet? I haven't kept track of the Shining Force series past the Sega CD iteration (though I'd like to play the third installment if the whole thing was translated to English).
There're also a couple of other titles I can think of, but are too young, only had about two sequels, or haven't had a sequel for about 5-10 years for me to consider them as continuing video game series that will have a sequel latched onto it regularly. Sly Cooper, Lunar: Dragon Song (I can't help but feel like it's not going to be a true sequel to the Lunar series), and Lufia to name a few.
I would've mentioned Zelda, but I haven't played a Zelda game since Link to the Past.
