Any Myst fans out there?

If so, then you probably know that the last game in the series, Myst V: End of Ages, is coming out in about a week. What you might not know is that Cyan is probably going out of business.

I thought it was a good series. I'm into the exploring and adventure side of it. The puzzles were usually good; Riven was probably my favorite in that respect. What got me into the series was all the story in URU. I thought it was cool.

Whoa, seriously? I love the Myst games. (I've never gotten a chance to play Uru because they don't make Mac versions :/) That's really sad.

I've always wanted to try Myst, shame I never got the chance. I really loved those adventure/puzzle games back then, especially Sierra's Lighthouse and The Neverhood.

Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

I didn't want to say anything, but since you brought it up, I'll second it.

Can't you make an explosion happen by taking the letter in a bottle to the windmill and turning the crank three times? Or something similarly inane?

Myst really isn't a game. It's an excuse to buy a strategy guide.

Probably. I don't remember much of the first game.

Some of us figure out the puzzles on our own.

More like there isn't enough game. It's a fucking Powerpoint presentation founded on the most illogical puzzle design in game history.

Clicking on everything on the screen to find a hotspot (then discovering that you needed to click on the arbitrary wall to open a secret door) was frustrating and perhaps illogical, but the series has moved away from that. Most of the actual puzzles were fun and possible to figure out once you'd found them.

I think the art gallery style of the game is one of its most attractive features. It's a relaxing stroll through beautiful alien landscapes, like a platformer except you can't jump 6 feet.

Did you play IV? Now THAT was cool. Especially in that they let you touch everything. That entertained me far more than it should have.

Indeed. I think I tapped every surface of Tomanah before I finally made myself stop.

Seriously. I spent more time fooling around with stupid stuff than actually doing the plot. "Oooh, green gas makes the screen all wavy! DO IT AGAIN!"

yeah, I remember when the first Myst game came out... I found it entertaining, and quite challenging. Then, when I beat it, it was just a joykill. It was like a "Hey, Stupid!" kind of slap in the face. I've yet to touch a Myst game since then.
