Knuckles finally gets a decent Sonic1 ROM Hack

Post by Cypher »

This is cool. Apparently it's fairly new.
Of course being able to climb and glide makes alot of the levels pretty easy though.

I would be interested to see Sonic Team's reaction to this one.

That's really cool. Which version of Sonic 1 is it running on?

I was somewhat disappointed that neither Sonic & Knuckles nor Sonic Jam gave us the ability to play as Tails in Sonic 1.

I always thought that the title screen looked incredibly akward in the Sonic Jam Sonic 2 lock-on.

That's fucking awesome.

I wonder why they didn't just go ahead and add Tails, though? It couldn't be much more hard, could it? Or is there a hack for Tails that I'm unaware of?

Heck, I'd love to see the Sonic Advance 3 Sprites in Sonic 1, if only to see how out of place and bizare they'd be.

A hack with Tails is being worked on as we speak. If I follow correctly, incorporating his flying ability into the game is what's holding the project back. Might be some other issues, I haven't looked into it all that much.

If they can get the glide and wall climb in I don't see how adding what is essentially just a continuous doublejump (it's not like he could pick up Sonic) could possibly be difficult. Maybe it has to do with his tails being a seperate sprite?

It turns out Knuckles is too tall to duck under the Unidus' attack in the Labyrinth zone (remember that part where a Unidus throws spike balls at you while you have to duck and one of those air bubble things happen to be nearby?).

Can't you just, you know, jump over?

Probably, but then again, Knuckles' jump is lower than that of Sonics.

/reminded of trying to pass Sonic 2's Death Egg boss with Knuckles.

*brrr*

Looks like he can't duck under UniUni in Star Light Zone either. I wonder if the collision is automatically applied to the graphics or if Stealth set it manually? It certainly looks as if he should be able to fit under there (because of his spines, Sonic is actually slightly taller in a crouch than Knuckles is, even in Sonic 1).

Is it just me or.... does this hack not let you get the last Emerald? I was taking my time and the giant rings never appeared for me after I got the fifth one.

Not in Act 2... right?

I think there's one in Act 1, but I always try to get them all before then.

Yeah me too, but I was seeing just how much of the game you could skip by constantly gliding... I'm sure there's one in Act 1 normally, and I seem to remember one popping up in Act 2.... but thats probably just my mind playing tricks.

There is absolutely no reason for you to put all your text in blue. Could you stop that? It's really annoying.

Star Light Zone Act 2 is the last time giant rings pop up. I'm 90% sure that there aren't any in Scrap Brain Zone at all.

I second that. I've never seen a special stage ring in Scrap Brain.

But it has Bonus Panels, right? It's Act 2 that doesn't have bonus panels!
