Worst... Season... Ever.

Post by Squirrelknight »

This holiday season officially sucks.

First Zelda gets delayed until 2006, and now the Xbox 360 is going to launch in 2 different, but equally stupid versions-- a $299 version that ships without a harddrive or even the "standard" wireless controller (it comes with a cheaper wired version instead), or an over-priced $399 version that includes the 20GB harddrive (something that should come standard with the system anyway :P), a wireless controller (ditto), a headset and a DVD remote.

So your choices are to get a gimped Xbox 360 and buy a harddrive or memory card seperatley, or pay 400 dollars for shit you should've gotten with the system in the first place.

Oh, and in case you forgot, the PSP launched last spring, and it's pretty much being ignored by the game publishers this fall. That's just great.

Oh. And Zelda got delayed.

Oh. And there's like, 2 promising original Xbox games coming out this fall.

Oh. And Zelda got delayed.

It looks like my PS2 is my only system that's going to see any use this Fall... and that's only because of Minna Daisuke and Shadow of the Colossus.

I'm fucking pissed about Zelda's delay myself. Course there's a few gams out I still need to get, not to mention soontobegames like Oogie's Revenge, Kingdom Hearts 2 and the new Sonic games.

I don't mind the Zelda delay. The developers said that they didn't want to give an approximate release date in the first place, and you could really tell that things were pretty much thrown together in the latter parts of The Wind Waker.

I was disappointed about the Zelda delay for about half a second before I came to my senses and remembered what happened with The Wind Waker; they rushed it out, and we ended up with a game containing only a small handful of dungeons and an extremely boring, unrefined Triforce hunt near the end of the game. This delay is nothing but a good thing.

Personally, I don't mind Zelda getting delayed. I'd rather they delay it and spend extra time finishing it rather than rush it out for a Christmas release and end up with a half-assed game.

I say, at this rate, why the hell not put it off for Revolution and have a quality launch title (unlike the GameCube).

Oh, and which 2 Xbox titles looked good?

I thought Stubbs The Zombie and Half-Life 2 were looking pretty good. By the way, when I said "2 good Xbox games", I meant the original Xbox, not the 360, since well... Nothing on the 360 interests me. PD0 might be good if they can pull it together, but given Rare's recent work, I wouldn't count on it.

Anyway, Nintendo releasing Twilight Princess on Gamecube is kinda like what Sega did with releasing Panzer Dragoon Saga and Shining Force 3 on the Saturn-- The system is pretty much dead, but they're just putting the game out to keep their fanbase happy. I'm sure Nintendo will still sell a million copies of it easily and I'm sure it'll be one of the best games of this generation, but right now that game seems like Nintendo's way of trying to prove there's still a reason to invest in future Nintendo hardware.

The Zelda delay is great for gamers and horrible for Nintendo. I'm glad they've learned their lesson about rushing things out before they are ready, but it's crazy to be releasing such a big A-list title on a system that will be more or less dead by the time it comes out. If it wasn't for the backwards compatiblity of Revolution, I'd think they were totally insane.

Moving Zelda:TP to the Revolution wouldn't be a good move on Nintendo's part. First, they'd have to completely rebuild the game from the ground up to take advantage of Revolution's hardware. Second, it probably wouldn't look so good, comparatively, since Revolution's hardware is completely new to the developers, and at this rate probably hasn't even been finalized yet because Nintendo's crazy.

Also, I hear Okami has also been pushed to next year, so that leaves just Shadow of the Colossus left for me to buy this year. :(

Where did you get the idea or the info that Zelda: TP is going on Revolution? I thought it was merely just delayed (which I'm all for, by the way). Either that or I'm missing something.

Read the thread! Some people were suggesting it to be a good idea.

I don't think this holiday's going to be a complete bummer, there's still a few promising games being released, like Shadow of the Colossus, We Love Katamari, Sould Calibur III, and Dragon Quest VIII looks pretty good. Radiata Stories looks somewhat interesting, although it is by Tri-Ace so I'm not to sure I'd take the risk. The DS has quite a few games coming out, like Nintendogs, Castlevania, Trave Memory, Animal Crossing, Electroplankton, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Trauma Center: Under the Knife, and Lost in Blue. I'm sure not all of those games are going to be good, but they each look a little promising.

Oh, and then there's Gunstar Super Heroes!

I thought Okami was always coming out in 2006!

In any event, I agree that this holiday season is looking pretty light. We Love Katamari and Shadow of the Colossus are the only things I'm really excited about, although there are a few other odd titles that look like they could be interesting.

Silv, did you ever pick up Bumpy Trot? How is it? I wanted to get it, but it looked like the language barrier would be too thick for me.

I don't know if you consider November as part of the holiday, but Megaman X Collection is coming out too. With more improvements than you can ever dream about. If you don't believe me...

Wow, produced by the talented people behind... Megaman X8!

*nervous laughter*

Still, I'm kind of looking forward to this one. I always liked the X series better than the original one, and I've only gotten to play the first three.

I did. I thought you were saying it was official, and not merely people's ideas.

When it comes to the Kingdom Hearts 2's official release, I'm in the whole "I'll see when I believe it" mode, since Squenix/Disney has changed the date release for the umpteeth time.

Actually, I did forget him, but that's probably because I don't currently care about his new game.

I only just got Bumpy Trot TODAY in fact. I was going to order it a while ago but the release date kept getting pushed back and I wondered if it would come out at all, and then the spirit of purchasing left me.

But I have it now (after waiting a week or so for it to come back in stock..) so impressions after I get a chance to play it, probably..

What about Gunstar Super Heroes for the GBA? I've been salivating over that game ever since I saw gameplay footage.
