Well that's certainly cheered me up a little, after a guy in a newspaper yesterday rated the Real Ghostbusters the worst cartoon ever.

DuckTales was really rather good.

Excellent! A friend and I were just talking the other day about how this would never happen.. If this sets off a long chain of Disney TV series DVD releases I'll be pretty happy (Tailspin and Darkwing in particular), but mostly we want WB to take a hint and give us Animaniacs (or at least Wakko's Wish on DVD! Come on!)

Now, the tough part right is buying Ducktales or the Mario Brothers cartoon DVD....

Is Wakko's Wish any good? I was curious about it, but if I remember correctly that was around the time that the TV series had declined in quality and I didn't think an Animaniacs movie could work on any level (especially not as a musical, or even a musical parody), at least not for more than about ten or fifteen minutes, so I never bothered watching it.

Is Wakko's Wish any good?

I don't recall why I ended up watching it, if it was on TV or it had been rented or what exactly, but I had assumed the same thing you had, that it probably wasn't very good. It turned out I really liked it, I think it stands with the higher point of the TV series. It really felt as if the team had worked hard on it, it was nicely done, and integrated all the major Animaniacs characters (even some of the ones I don't really like) in a pretty natural manner. The musical aspect is also pulled off better (I think) than it is in the show, typically, which says quite a bit as there were some pretty strong musical moments in the tv show (though I think there were some pretty awkward ones too).

So long as we're on the topic of old-ish cartoons, has anyone here ever seen a show called "T-Rex?" It ran for a short while in 1992, I think, and I can find hardly any traces of its existance online. It was about these five palatte-swapped tyranosaurs in a city full of other dinosaurs and they worked in a dance show (?) by day and as cyborg crime fighters by night. There were some cool jazzy overtones to the show, which was otherwise a complete knockoff off the Ninja Turtles, even to the extent that they stole an entire plot from one episode (the one where Splinter's kimono is a treasure map--maybe TMNT ripped that from someplace too?). The villians were sort of cool, at least I thought so--their leader was this giant-headed blue reptile with large ears in a business suit, and they weren't afraid to use guns. Of course, no one ever got shot. But I remember they had guns, that was cool, you don't see that in kids shows much.

Yeah, I remember that cartoon. I believe that each T-Rex had a enhanced bodypart. The red one had superstrong arms, the blue had superstrong legs, the green superstrong tail, the yellow superstrong jaws and purple had a superstrong dic.. no wait he just had psychic powers. Purple was also the leader or at least he was always in the middle when they were doing group poses. I only remember one bad guy though, his name was Axe he wielded an axe. Duh!

T-Rex, now there's some memories. "Teeeeeeeeee-Rex!, T-Rex Yeah!" That car and the armour was well cool. But it was all lacklustre compared to C.O.P.S.

Edit: Oh, and Pro Stars, and Hammerman.

Nice! Once I found a site that acknowledged that the show existed, but didn't have anything on it at all. I'm glad I wasn't the only one watching it, at least..

Wakko's Wish is indeed a really loooong musical. The songs kind of get repetitive and irritating after a while, because sometimes I'll be going "Geez, the whole town just sang this song for fifteen minutes, now the Goodfeathers are singing it fifteen minutes later?" After a while, I got the impression that they were making fun of musicals by having too many songs (that possibly wasn't their intent, but oh well).

The reason it works as a msucial full-length movie is because it's set in a different "timeline". Like, a different timeline like one of the settings that Rita & Runt would be in, or when the Warner sibs would "help" Michelangelo or Picasso. I think it takes place in an old withered town in Switzerland/Germany/something European. A full-length movie probably wouldn't work out with the sibs being zany and terrorizing Warner Bros. Studios for 60 minutes.

I'd say it's a fun movie. It's cool because you can tell the show gets some kind of closure. Like, the producers knew this was probably gonna be the last thing Animaniacs related they'd make ever, so they did what they could of it. My favorite part was the showdown with the villain, that was hilarious.

That's generally how I felt. I felt it did indeed close the door to the Animaniacs. I especially enjoyed how nearly all the characters got their own happy endings that they've been trying to get since the beginning of the show (Mindy finally calling her mother "mom" or was it "mommy" had me squealing)..........all except the mime.
