Anyone else remember this? (S&K)

Just reassuring myself that I'm not going (completely) insane...

I remember in the Sonic & Knuckles commerical, there was a clip where Sonic was chasing Eggman down Doomsday-style. However, there were major differences: foremost, they were above Angel Island, and moving left. Sonic wasn't in Super/Hyper form; in fact, he was clinging onto the mecha's back, hanging on for dear life. Eggman's robot had the Master Emerald... but it was the mecha from the end of Sonic 2, and looked two seconds away from falling to pieces, as seen from the numerous mini-explosions that littered the screen.

I've searched the Internet, and I haven't found any media about this scene anywhere; kinda funny when there's a shitload of beta info about the other games. I know that I didn't dream it up, because I knew nothing about the game when the commercial aired, and the other clips of in-game footage actually happened (like Knuckles trying to get his Emerald back in HPZ). And if it was a clip from the beta game, how did it slip into a commercial?

If this info has been posted here before, I apologize. Just makes me really wonder what we know about a beta of Sonic 3 or Sonic & Knuckles.

...

On an off-note, anyone notice how the mural in Hidden Palace foreshadows to the Doomsday Zone fight?

The only S&K commercial I know of is the one with the midgets, and that one doesn't have a scene remotely similar to what you're describing.

This intrigues me, for some reason. Can we get Rlan to take a look at this?

I remember commercials for Sonic spaghetti-ohs that featured Sonic & Knuckles -- I think it was for some contest where you could win a SEGA Genesis and a bunch o' games including S&K -- but I don't recall any o' those scenes in said commercials.

I have never heard of this advert. Iceknight would be the one to ask since Australia had their own set of ads. Sounds a bit like a memory twisted over time, like the many stories people swear by where a friends copy of a Sonic game had something or other different. But then, who knows? :)

I was told once upon a sometime in middle school (1996-1998) that this person said he owned a copy of a Sonic fighting game on his PC. I don't know if his claim holds any water, but that's what he said. I did happen to know about the existence of Sonic the Fighters at the time, so I assumed it might've been related to that, but I'm sure there was never a PC port.

It could've been one of the many terrible fan-made Sonic games that showed up around that time for PC.

Rlan: Aside what I told you and the Hidden Palace bit, I can't remember much else of the commericial. Those two parts definitely stand out in my mind, though.

The only sonic related commercial I can remember is the one for Sonic 2, there was a hedgehog on a desert highway at sunset and there were flashes of the Sega Skull. The whole thing was like an acid trip.

Can those Sega Pirate TV ads be downloaded anywhere? They were really trippy.

I never knew Sonic 2 could be used for cooking. I'll have to put it in my knife pack.

I always liked the Sonic Adventure 2 "good hedgehog/bad hedgehog" commercial. Video game commercials these days are obsessed with looking cool and showing actual footage from the game, but the SA2 commercial hearkened back to the days when it was all about puns, gimmicks, and overexcited announcers.

I remember the Spaghetti-Os commercials. It always bugged me that they played Chemical Plant music while showing off footage from Mushroom Hill.

They should never add mushrooms to Spaghetti-O's. It would kill the company.

Not if they were magic mushrooms. Hippies would go nuts for them, although the fact that they are dirt poor for having no jobs thanks to being too busy fighting machines (whatev) means that yes, the business would probably still fail. I...just proved your point. BLAST.
