Adult Swim... [fanboys rejoice!]

Post by Jaden »

Ah I just thought I bring this up... The change in the Saturday line-up doesn't seem to be going over well... I find this is somewhat "sad" since us, as fans, has worked hard to get Anime into the mainstream and on TV in general... There has been many steps forwards with Spirited Away and the Animatrix... It just sucks that it just isn't getting it's due when there are so many things that could help it out... Like Fullmetal Alchemist or Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex... And what is the worst of it all it is being replaced by re-runs of a Fox reject, while good it still has been over played... I may be alone in this but I doubt it...

I don't like watching anime on Adult Swim. I just don't like the stuff they usually show. I haven't watched AS on a Saturday Night in a long time.

Sunday Night AS, however, is the shizzy. ATHF, SeaLab 2021, Harvey Birdman, etc., etc., all make me laugh long and propa.

Yes it is. Adult Swim airs at 11:00EST/10:00CEN on Saturdays with new episodes of Inuyasha and a new to TV series, Wolf Rain--followed by rerun showings of Which Hunter Robin, Trigun, Big O, and Cowboy Bebop.

My problem is with WS is that they hardly promote the Saturday Block or even the anime at all compared with the comedy shows. They keep saying "ah comedy ratings are teh kickin', action ratings are teh suckin'" but what do you expect when you hardly promote your action shows during the first hour of the block?

They seem to made a new kickass ASA promo which used Sealab 2021's "Uh Oh!" music. Ironic since Sealab dissed anime in a past episode. You can download it here at the top of the site.

Next, we get to Detective Conan a.k.a. Case Closed which airs Monday through Thursday at 12:30/11:30. Ideally, I would rather see this to be the first prime time CN show that has a TV-PG rating since it really is a family show--despite some gruesome murders. However, since the BS&P is still in a mindset that "all animation in general is for teh kiddiez, airez more Kids Next Door, plz!", DC/CC best fit as of now is AS. I really fell in love with the show as it is a breath of fresh air from the other new ASA shows that are slow-paced and angst-ridden. However, I frown at WS that not only did it premire at 12:30 as opposed to the usual 12:00 when a new action show appears, but they are also keeping it at 12:30 when the current reruns of ATHF will be replaced with reruns of IY. No move to an earlier time, lame.

I think someone has mentioned before how they hated that AS creates pig fucking "fans" of anime. Besides Robin I dont really like any of the anime they show. And i hate the fact that its all dubbed. What the hell is up with all the old anime they always show? Wolfs rain tho. . . . that looks promising. . . if only it wasnt dubbed.

I donno. Some of it is good, while some of it, well, isn't good. And so what if it's old? It's new to a lot of people.

Oh wait, forget my previous post I just found out about the news in this thread: <a href="http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.p ... =113613

Why the hell are pushing the anime in favor of overkilling Futurama and such a terrible show as Sealab 2021? If they think this combo of shows are going to bring big, big ratings on Saturdays then they are in for a big surprise.

And the thing that really pisses me off is that they pushed back a quality show like Detetive Conan that has a chance of being a break-out hit and is airing new episodes to freakin' 1:00am in the morning because of ATHF and IY reruns. What the hell?!

And then there is talk of Full Metal Alchemist premiring at 1:00 am. WTF?!

Similar injustices on TV are happening all the time. A while ago there was an excellent and pretty much unique programme called "AAAARGH! It's the Mr. Hell Show". It was probably one of the funniest animated series I ever saw, but the BBC saw fit to relegate it to an 11:30 graveyard slot. Predictably, it got bad ratings and the Beeb use this to justify not rerunning it at an earlier time slot despite the fact that if they had given it a chance it would have been a hit.

Oh well. The saga of idiotic shedule planners vs. bored teenage TV pundits continues world wide.

It's the line-up, IMO. New episodes of InuYasha and Wolf's Rain, then reruns the rest of the night, right? No wonder they weren't doing well. I mean, Trigun and Cowboy Bebop are great shows and all, but anime reruns simply lose their appeal faster than the comedy shows. Also, a lot of people may have already seen fansubs or something. Shit, I've seen up to episode 151 of InuYasha, so I don't even bother with it on [AS].

It'll get better when GitS:SC and FMA appear on [AS]. It's just a matter of having fresh content.

If that's true, I wish my parents let me have cable in my room and/or let me stay up that late when I was that young.

Ah kids are spoiled little ass-hats these days... They are taught nothing by their parents and just pushed off on TV and shit because the parents can't handle talking to their own spawn... And now since TV isn't engough they bitch and moan to be allowed to use computers and then come on and try to be to "cute" and "extreme" by sucking up to the people they view as the in-crowd... In the end they just act like douche and end going over to GameFAQs or any other of the hundred corrupted message boards and get into debates about topics they can't even spell right...

That is so true, Jaden, so very true sadly. I wonder if people will ever learn that TV is not a baby sitter.

You may be able to spell, but that doesn't mean you are using the words correctly.

I heard about this minutes after the card aired, and I'm pissed.

I don't care how bad their ratings are, debuting Fullmetal Alchemist, the ONE show that could saved Adult Swim Saturdays without American comedy shows, at 1am in favour of fucking Sealab is just unacceptable. I can't even get CN, but I can't sit by idly and let this happen. Methinks it's time to expand my site a little bit.

On the other hand, I hear that Toonami is doing quite well. Despite Tokyopop's desecration of Groove Adventure Rave, they're actually starting to edit Gundam SEED with a teen demographic in mind (ie: fanservice intact, Flay uses the "K" word), despite the rating. I wonder if Lacus' panty shot will make it into the next episode?

If Toonami is doing so well what is this Miguzi crap that seems to have replaced it in the afternoon? I haven't watched much TV in the last month, but it seems like Toonami got downsized quite a bit. You'd know better than me though.

Toonami was moved to Saturday nights to evolve into a full-fledged teen-block, which is something that Cartoon Network has sorely needed for ages. The problem the block had before was that it was trying to be mature but was, ultimately, targeting the 6-11 demographic. Now, however, Miguzi has come along to place proper focus on the 6-11 audience, while Toonami can concentrate on the 12-17 bracket. It's a good thing.

And for the record, I've only seen Cartoon Network once in my life. It was nice.
