On the PSO page:

Gungnir -- In Norse myth, Gungnir, "Spear of Heaven", is big daddy Odin's weapon of choice. Gungnir's origin is unknown... Odin found it on the Plains of Ida and used it to fashion Asgard as it is known today.

While not concrete, the origin of the Gungnir can flow into Teutonic myth, going back to the dwarf Dvalin, who is credited with inventing dunes. He created the Gungnir, as well as the ship Skidbladnir. He also made a beautiful golden wig to compensate for Sif's own hair, when it was chopped off by Loki.

Ice Staff: Dagon -- In ancient Mesopotamian myth, Dagon, meaning "corn", was the god of vegetation. He passed his knowledge of farming to humans, allowing them to settle down and create history's earliest recorded non-nomadic civilization, Mesopotamia. What this has to do with ice is anybody's guess.

In the Canaanite pantheon, Dagon was sometimes associated with the half-fish female deith Derceto, which may account for the theory of Dagon being portrayed as half-fish himself. Half-fish, water, ice...it's closer to the ideal, albeit pretty damn far away.

I found all these in Encyclopedia Mythica, one of GG!'s sources when he made the page. The reason none of this is in that page is because the articles I found these in were only posted in the last three years. The former was posted on April 27, 2002, and can be found here. Just tying up some loose ends. Call me obsessive-compulsive if you'd like, but I just thought they'd be of some (if infinitessimally small) use.

I can give a hand, I know some stuff about legendary weapons.
Kaladbolg was the ultimate sword in Irish mythology, if I remember right.

I didn't find anything on the Kaladbolg...strange.

It's gone through so many spellings but Caladbolg get's more results.
It's supposed to be the Irish equivalent to Excalibur.

Vjaya is derived from Vijaya which is Hindu for "Sword".

Here's something, though...

Vulcan
Also called Vulcanus, the Roman god of destructive fire and craftsmanship. He and his helpers forged weapons for gods and heroes in their "base", if you will, beneath Mt. Etna. He is identified with (and based on) the Greek fire god Hephaestus.

Too bad it is an ugly ass sword with a nasty red glow around it. If I remember correctly that is, haven't play PSO in awhile.

Caduceus is also known as the Staff of Hermes which is why the pair look similar.

Good looking out, Omni. According to this, Caladbolg roughly translates to Caladwvlch, which means 'Cut Steel'.

I always wondered how that was pronounced. I just knew of it as the staff that boosted your Grants the most.

Pallasch
The sword that was known to the Poles (and used by their famous Winged Hussars) as the palasz and to the Germans as the pallasch was a straight broadsword, with a saber-style hilt.

That's the best I got. Pallasch is just a German name for that particular type of sword.

Elysion as in the sword looks kind of holy being all glowy and mystical.
Elysion/elysium refers to the Greek afterlife for heroes.

That's just a rumor. Staffs don't boost me that much.

Sorry, I know it's been awhile. I wasted a lot of time initally trying to write the PSO 3 page (since I was playing it alot at the time), but trying to explain how to play that shit is about as pleasant as writing instructions on how to complete your income tax forms, and compiling and listing all those cards is a pain in the ass. I'd say I'm not even a quarter of the way done of the Episode 3 page.

I'm actually 60-ish percent done with the Episode 1 and 2 page (rough estimate), I don't have any screenshots still, but I've finished the info on the new characters, levels, changes to the game system, etc. I still have to compile most of the new weapons and armor, quests, and some other minor stuff ( GBA mini-games, seasonal lobby changes).

Considering the slow rate that I work, it might be awhile before I'm finished with the Ep. 1 and 2 page. And the wait for Ep. 3 page will be even longer. You'll probably be playing PSU by the time I'm done with Ep. 3's page. :P

Vulcan

Vulcan, more like M61 Vulcan: a 20mm air-cooled, electric powered, automatic Gatling-action machine gun designed by General Electric. With fighter planes becoming faster and more maneuverable, traditional machine gun designs simply do not spit out enough rounds. To keep up with newer planes, GE applies an electric motor to Gatling's ole rotary repeating rifles and wham, 3000rpms. The M61 fires either 4000 or 6000 rpm and feeds linkless ammo.

The Japanese (through ignorance or respect) have mistaken the term "Vulcan" to define the family of weapons consisting of multiple barrels using a rotary feeding system. Obviously Sonic Team just took the name to mean "a fast firing automatic" and applied it to the gold-type Submachine Gun (which appears to be modelled after the H&K MP5K, but with a lengthened magazine well, which appears to be designed to accomidate intermediate power rifles cartridges such as those use in modern assault rifles and carbines).

While the original "Project Vulcan" is named after the Roman god, it's use in PSO is a reference to the M61 Vulcan installed on F-14 and F/A-18 craft.

It's a common mistake really. SA2 claims that Tails' Cyclone has a "Vulcan" cannon, though the spelling is bastardized. In Descent, your ship is also capable of equipping a "Vulcan Gun" that fires APDU shells. Finally Airsoft Miniguns manufactured in Japan are often mislabeled as Vulcan cannons as well.
