Groening Promises More 'Simpsons'

The Simpsons creator Matt Groening has allayed fears the upcoming 350th episode will mark the beginning of the end for the long-running show - by insisting he's still dreaming up new ideas for future series. Writers on the animated comedy are already working on scripts for the 17th series - a TV sitcom record - quashing reports the escapades of Homer and his disaster-prone family are destined for the archives. And Groening has promised to continue making The Simpsons until they run out of ways to excite the show's loyal fans. He says, "That's what you're looking for in television - surprise. I think they're as sharp and surprising as anything we've done since the beginning of the show. I don't see any end in sight. I want to get to 366 (shows) so we have one for every day of the year, including leap years." The 350th Simpsons show will be screened in America on Sunday.

Please stop at 366. Please stop at 366. Please stop at 366. In fact forget the 366. Stop period!

Oh and start making Futurama again.

It's not even that funny anymore. It was never really that funny to begin with.

I'm pretty sure we've had the debate we're about to embark on already.

New Simpsons may not be as good as classic Simpsons but it's still better than 95% of other shows on TV. Of course, considering the number of reality shows on TV these days it's not exactly difficult!

We recycle arguments. It's fun. It's like the GHZ is one giant married couple.

Imagine the kids!
Anyway, more Simpsons is pointless, most of the new episodes will be overhyped anyway.

There are plenty of other shows that suck way more than the Simpsons. Besides, you guys don't actually have to watch it.

Actually, I think the recent episode where they went to China was pretty good. But you can't say that about the whole series, of course.

While the classic Simpsons will always be the gold mine for me, the more recent batch has been FAR better then the craptaculuar Simpson seasons of Season 11-13 or so.

Either way, no matter how long they plan to continue the show, I'm gonna keep watching it. It's just that I've been with it for 12 years since I was 6, it's something I just can't give up on so easily.

The newer Simpsons suck. This much is clear. Occasionally they do get a good joke in, but it's nowhere near as good as the older ones. Shame. Dunno why, either. they can't simply have "run out" of things to do.

Hallowe'en specials are a thing to be avoided these years. Awful movie parodies. Wahoo.

That said, I don't understand the argument that futurama is better than the Simpsons. I never found that. Futurama was really good, but never on a par with the simpsons.

Too shiny, I think.

Family Guy pwns it. They're making new episodes of that, at least.

Have I covered all the bases? I've been in enough Simpsons-suck-now threads. Did I miss anything?

I don't really care that they're making new Simpson's episodes, I'm just mad they took off Arrested Development for American Dad.

Futurama is so much better than Simpsons and Family Guy. The humor is much more intelligent and the episodes have a much better "replay" value because of it. If you don't think so, you probably don't get half the jokes, most of which are geared towards nerds and geeks.

Futurama, in my opinion, is one of (if not) the best animated shows I've ever seen.

What? It's official Arrested Development isn't renewed? Or are you just lamenting the fact that they're not re-running it in the summer?

In any case, everyone needs to go out and buy the first season of Arrested Development on DVD. Even though I haven't seen any of the second season, it's already my favorite TV show of all time.

Seriously, go buy it.

Fif... no, wait. I did say Futurama was good, and I am most definitely enough of a geek to understand the jokes. They still weren't as good as the ones in Simpsons. The timing was just never as good, for one thing. Kidnapster, for example. Lame puns can be funny if they're lame enough and handled right. Kidnapster was lame enough, but was handled badly. Good God, look at me, I'm analysing the jokes now.

Arggh, how can I explain this. I just never found Futurama as funny or as clever as other people did, despite it being aimed squarely between the eyes of my demographic. It was still good!

But Family guy is awesome. I'm tempted to say it's better than Simpsons, but not yet. Just give it a few more Simpsons episodes, though.

Of course not. In fact, I have Seasons 1-3 on DVD of Seinfeld. Arrested Development is already better, in my opinion. It's that good.

Arrested Development is pretty much the only reason to wake up on a Sunday. If any show deserves to have 366 episodes, it's that. The only t.v. I watch these days are the old, classic reruns of Simpsons, Chapelle's Show, Arrested Development, the Daily Show and Korean dramas (don't ask). Everything else sucks.

Korean dramas?
