Sorry I'm late with this reply, but better late then never.Amazing Grant wrote:I agree. Finding Nemo is certainly in the Top 3 of Pixar's films, right with The Incredibles and Toy Story, I think.
I'm not sure why you feel Finding Nemo has no plot or any value beyond being an elaborate CGI test, Dark Crow. Elaborate, please?
As a CGI movie, Finding Nemo has what I humbly consider some of the best graphics I have ever seen. Except, the plot was completely boring, and seemed more like a glorified tech demo or shameless advertisement for the Great Barrier Reef, Sydney and clown fish in general. I find the fact that two stupid fish looking for an even stupider fish to not be very compelling in terms of storyline (I have the same issue with A Bug's Life). The rest of Pixar's work is excellent, unquestionably.

I'm curious, then - did you like Toy Story then? Because all that film was about was two stupid toys trying to get back home. It was just one big long commercial for Mr. Potato Head and slinkies.Dark Crow wrote:As a CGI movie, Finding Nemo has what I humbly consider some of the best graphics I have ever seen. What about The Incredibles? That glorified CGI demo was just an excuse to show some slick animated fighting with boring cliched superheroes. And that was just a big commercial for gigantic robots.
I'm being facetious, of course; my point is that all of Pixar's films are pretty basic, at least in terms of plot, because they're primarily aimed at young audiences, or extremely broad audiences anyway. The thing that makes Pixar's work good is the charm and the warmth in which the admittedly conventional plot is shown. It's not what they're doing, but how they're doing it.

I myself was being facetious with the stupid fish remark, and I know the film was aimed at children, but that isn’t the point. Toy Story and Monsters Inc. were aimed at the same audience, and were superb in my opinion. No, the main problem with Nemo was that it simply not a clever movie unlike the rest of Pixar's. Their plots have always been basic to appeal to the masses, but usually their films have such clever plot twists that make the films so enjoyable to behold. Toy Story was excellent in that the movie took the perspective of a childhood fantasy of Toys coming to life (which I'm sure all have believed at one point). Monsters Inc. was excellent in that again Pixar take another childhood fantasy, but take it from the perspective of the monsters scaring children against their will. Similarly, The Incredibles who wanted to be superheroes, but the world didn't. The plots maybe conventional, but the execution isn’t. As it stands, Nemo in my opinion was the standard "go rescue the princess plot", except set in the Great Barrier Reef, with the "surprise" twist being that eventually Nemo is the one who saves Marlin and Dory(?) from a big bad net despite his crippled fin. Despite how touching the sentiments maybe, it was pretty predictable as to what was going to happen, thus making it boring to watch. That, and the jokes (on contrast to Pixar's others) were pretty lame also.Amazing Grant wrote: I'm curious, then - did you like Toy Story then? Oh yeah that's true, well it was the fish movie that showed the Sydney Opera House, had two fish trying to find Nemo by getting the forgetful fish (Dory or something) to read the snorkers goggles, and containing the dentist with the fish tank in his operating room, trying to give away the captive Nemo to the girl with the braces. If that's the case, then yes I have most certainly seen it.

I'd figure it was, but I was typing that thing way above because it was like, 8 AM in the morning and I can't think straight in the morning (It's only 11: 46AM, so forgive me if I say anything else stupid), plus I'm in that time where everything, however little, pisses me off. It should go away in about a couple of days.
