Hell no! He's a dirty hippie! The first, in fact. I'm not attracted to hippies.Zeta, do you find Jesus to be attractive?
Not to be offensive, but would you ever consider dating the big J.C. if you didn't know he was 'God's Son'?
Well, once - but he was good with computers and art, too. And really adorable.
Jesus can just turn water into wine. And I don't drink. Also, the beard makes him look scruffy.
Jesus doesn't have the skills to pay the bills.

Actually, while my Father was raised Catholic, and my Mother was baptised Catholic (she was raised Protestant), they're about the least religious people who are neither agnostic nor atheistic. Technically, I think we're henotheists: we choose to worship (albeit rather loosely) one deity/spirit/whatever, but do not deny the possible existance of other deities/spirits/whatevers. Outside of weddings and funerals, we never go to church and we take a subjective, intellectually skeptical stance on such subjects as religious texts and their interpretations, Papal Infalibility, the Isreali/Palestinian Confict, et cetera. We're thinks, not followers.Delphine wrote:The Scarlet Scorpion wrote:Delphine wrote:Oh, GREAT, now I have GUILT.
Del, Del, Del. I'm the one who's suppossed to have guilt (for some reason, I have a massive guilt complex -- it's like in a past life I ate babies, or something).
Were you raised under any sort of Christian religion?

Why I feel so gosh darn guilty is beyond me. One of the (many) reasons why I see a shrink, I guess...
Shame there aren't more Christians like you. Here in Southern Connecticut, we have arse-loads of scary "born-again" types, a group which may or may not be an actual (doomsday?) cult, and an up-and-comming terrorist organization determined to exterminate all of those whom they deam "inferior" (never mind that their beloved Fuhrer, ten to one, wouldn't even find them fit for slave labor, but still...). Also, just a few miles away there's the University of Bridgeport, which is owned by zillionare nutjob Sung Myung Moon, who claims to be the Messiah and openly states he intends to conquer all of Earth.chriscaffee wrote:Christianity never made me feel guilty, just taught me to take responsibilities for my own failures instead of blaming other people.
Where have all the C. S. Lewises of the world gone?
Yeah, I don't get that either.Zeta wrote:Christianity taught me that a being who was supposedly all-knowing and all-loving would gladly let his creations suffer if they didn't stroke his petty ego enough.
One of these days I've got sit down and write a book review of the Christian Bibles... hey, somebody's got to do it...
Actually, a lot of what various fundementalist have claimed over the years to be "evidence" of God being a bigot, whether he's/she's/it's portrayed as homophobic, racist, sexist, or whatever, is actually just a bunch of bullshit concocted from many centuries of mistranslations and misinterpretations. While we've gotten past much of that, there's still a lot we have to work on.Zeta wrote:Also, that I'm an evil, Hellish demon for not loving boobies.
*T.S.S. gets down off of his soapbox.*
Don't worry, I only edit stuff that people have yet to notice; if someone make a reply including the same error, I tend to just let it slide.Zeta wrote:Don't provoke him into editing his posts anymore than he already does! The Scarlet Scorpion wrote:Is a morgidge like a mortgage?

Actually, there's quite a bit of evidence that Jesus didn't look much at all like the way he's usually pictured.Zeta wrote:Baba O'Riley wrote:Zeta, do you find Jesus to be attractive?

For one thing, he wasn't the fair-skinned, fair-haired, blue-eyed chap he's usually depicted as. After all, he was a Jewish Middle Easterner, and hence didn't look like a Western European Catholic in the least. There also seems to be a manuascript in which one of the Apostles (Peter, I think), states that long hair is unbecoming of a man, as well as that it reminds him of his homeland's much hated Greco-Roman oppressors, who's men often wore long hair. So how could you say that while all the while be worshiping someone with long hair?
In short, Jesus probably didn't look like Jesus.

I think I'll stop my self before I get any more blashemous...
*T.S.S. resists the urge to start talking about the Apochrypha...*

Jesus, yes. Everyone else in the known universe? Hardly. Oh, and I' not sure exactly what point you're trying to make or if you even have one, but saying "go fuck yourself" isn't exactly Christian. I believe I remember reading something about turning the other cheek.chriscaffee wrote:Jesus explicitly says your "neighbor" is everyone. So go fuck yourself.
Also, I dislike calling him Jesus. He's not MY saviour. Y'shua is such a nice name, anyway.
BLASPHEMY. JESUS IS WHITE. HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO REPRESS NONWHITES IF JESUS WASN'T WHITE?The Scarlet Scorpion wrote:For one thing, he wasn't the fair-skinned, fair-haired, blue-eyed chap he's usually depicted as. I've been a Christian since I was six, so that's about 12 years, but I never consider myself a true 100% Christian (unlike my sister who goes as far as trying to stop me from potty mouthing). I always felt I wasn't connecting well with Jesus and the Lord and all that jazz. I got nothing against it and so far, I don't plan to doubt my religion, but maybe it's because of all the stuff I know and hear of religion in general or I'm just not commited enough. *shurgs*
I also have some slight taoism because I believe in the concept that light and dark do balance each other, among others...

Just to inform some of you about the long hair thing.
Men of Jesus' time and in his area generally did have long hair for men by our standards. What the writer was talking about was directed at a specific area where men had hair to their waists.
The people I've seen interpret this passage the worst are ones who pretty much depict Jesus as a skinhead, since short hair obviously means no hair at all.
I'm a Catholic, and I'll have disagree with Light Speed about Catholicism being retarded, along with Christianity in general. I think the problem with most Christians is that they aren't Christians. Like Del was expressing, most contradict themselves horribly, caring more about killing people who are different than helping other people.
Writing that just made me realize that Bush's brand of Christianity is similar to the Roman philosophy on how to treat people who are different.
I think before people here insult a group and voice some prejudism against it they should realize that you may be the ones with a problem in hypocrisy.
Most Christians today read the Bible selectively and think being a goody two shoes while being elitist is the way to go. All religions have had the problem of people misinterpreting them as time passes, so the problem definitely isn't unique to Christianity.

<I>Jesus, yes. Everyone else in the known universe? Hardly.</I>
It is Christianity, not Everbodyanity. The religion is based on Christ, so if Christ said X, then the religion is X. If people do Y, then they are wrong, but that doesn't mean Christ or Christianity advocate Y.
<I>Oh, and I' not sure exactly what point you're trying to make or if you even have one, but saying "go fuck yourself" isn't exactly Christian.</I>
You're either trying to degrade me or you are an idiot. If the latter, I was addressing Zeta's post that defined what a "neighbor" was not. So my point would have been to correct him.
As for the "go fuck yourself," we are hypocrites. I insult people when I shouldn't. You use a religious stereotype when you claim that you don't like broad generalizations in another topic.
<I>Either this is a bad joke or you just can't help but lose an argument.</I>
Clearly those are the only options.

Del, Jesus was a common name. It doesn't mean he's your savior.

Wow, you like to take things literally, don't you? Let me fix it once again:chriscaffee wrote:<I>Jesus, yes. Everyone else in the known universe? Hardly.</I>

Jesus, yes. All Christians? Hardly. Because? Christians are human and therefore imperfect! Whoa!
Clearly those are the only options. I honestly just didn't understand how you expected to be taken you seriously by ending your argument with "go fuck yourself."chriscaffee wrote:<I>Oh, and I' not sure exactly what point you're trying to make or if you even have one, but saying "go fuck yourself" isn't exactly Christian.</I>

I think Zeta was speaking from experience of how so-called Christians have treated him, not what it says in the Book.chriscaffee wrote:If the latter, I was addressing Zeta's post that defined what a "neighbor" was not. So my point would have been to correct him.
Yes, I know. However, making a broad generalization, while annoying, is a bit less insulting than telling someone to fuck themselves, don't you think?chriscaffee wrote:As for the "go fuck yourself," we are hypocrites. Look. I don't have anything against the Christian religion or Christians as a whole. I've just met one too many so-called Christians who where asshats and treated me poorly, in one way or another, and it's difficult to not treat the rest of the Christians as if they were the ones who wronged me. I do my best, but as we all know, people are flawed.

If that's true, you can't judge half the world on a few people. It's a little-known fact that Hitler tried to wipe out all the Jews just because one Jewish cockfag criticized a painting he was doing or something.Delphine wrote:I think Zeta was speaking from experience of how so-called Christians have treated him, not what it says in the Book.
(Or so I've been told.)
Yeah, I can't those evangelists either. I'm Catholic, and you'll never see me treating anyone differently just because of their religious preference or mistakes. I don't even put up much of a fight when people <b>"</b>bad-mouth<b>"</b> us. Everyone has their opinion.Delphine wrote:Look. Ditto. Whatever religion people have or don't have, I respect them because it's their own life. In general, I've gotten along with Catholics, Jews, etc. with no problem whatsoever.Yeah, I can't those evangelists either. The only thing I really do find kind of annoying is how many people (usually people non-Christian) has a tendacy to generalize us (in a bad way) whenever we do something like proclaim anime evil or Harry Potter is the soul of Satan and all that jazz when in reality, there's so many of us Christian who enjoys those and them some.

Sorry guys, but I've never really had good experiences with Christians until the past year or so - and only with about three people. And those three people are outnumbered by the many negative encounters. I recognize that the less vocal Christians are the most tolerable and kind/normal ones.
But I've had Bibles thrown at me in Highschool. Some teacher made a sweeping generalization about non-Christians, and I spoke up - saying that I was an atheist.
Around 12 Christians spent the next four months trying to convert me. They stopped after the said Bible-chucking event failed to show me the error of my evil ways.

My mom is a little bit of both -- anime and Harry Potter are some of the evilest of evils, but she enjoys both anyway.Neo Yi wrote:The only thing I really do find kind of annoying is how many people (usually people non-Christian) has a tendacy to generalize us (in a bad way) whenever we do something like proclaim anime evil or Harry Potter is the soul of Satan and all that jazz when in reality, there's so many of us Christian who enjoys those and them some.
Um.
Have I mentioned that my mother is insane?
O.O Geeze, man, you win.
